Eelus eBay transaction, by disturbart on Dec 8, 2016 15:55:51 GMT 1, I've just been offered ยฃ500 for an eelus print on eBay. The potential buyer has zero feedback. What's the best way to protect myself from saying it didn't arrive, requestsing a chargeback from PayPal etc?

What's the best way to protect myself from saying it didn't arrive, requestsing a chargeback from PayPal etc? eBay and Paypal do tend to default to the borrower - however, if you follow their procedures for Seller Protection they will side with you (this is assuming you accept a best offer and sell through eBay). As an example - I sold something last month (to a buyer with zero feedback as well). I shipped it with tracking, just as eBay required. After I shipped I added the tracking number to the case. A few days later borrower opened a case stating they didn't receive it. I had to respond - one of the options was to provide a tracking number - I provided the same one, stated it showed delivered, and that they should check with their local PO. They contacted eBay directly asking for the case to be escalated - eBay emailed me and told me they'd have a final determination within 24 hours - and five minutes later I had an email from eBay closing the case in my favor, as I'd provided the tracking prior to the case being opened.
If you really want to protect yourself, spend the extra couple dollars and require signature (not sure if it's required at ยฃ500 or not - check the guidelines - I know in the U.S. eBay only require signature on sales over $750).
Obviously that only covers them stating it was not received. As already noted above, just make sure you well document (through pics) the condition of the print prior to shipping, as well as the packaging you're sending in.

Sound like great advice, thanks
I was also thinking of asking him to send cash as friend/family Am I right in thinking that if he does it can then not be revered to refund him?

To answer your immediate question - if they pay via F&F, then they cannot file a claim (well, I think they still can, but it won't end in their favor). But, it depends on the details.
1. If you've got it listed as BIN with Best Offer, and they've offered you 500 as Best Offer, you can't get funds via F&F, only via Goods, if you accept the offer through eBay
2. If you're creating a deal outside of eBay, you can ask for F&fF As a buyer I'd never send funds that way, really no matter how well regarded the seller is (for multiple reasons), but your buyer might be dumb and willing to go that way. In which case you'd have no worries over potential recourse.

As in the item is "make an offer" and you tell them you'll give them 10% off of their asking price; I do it all of the time. Don't pay via bank transfer.

Eelus eBay transaction, by soupy on Dec 8, 2016 18:04:46 GMT 1, You are wrong. You always lose with Paypal and Ebay. ALWAYS. not true. follow the guidelines that iwokeinrelief laid out and you will be in the clear. i've dealt with many zero feedback buyers. a few don't make payment and are probably just trying to establish a secondary market price in their favor. however, in those cases.... i don't ship and i get a credit from ebay so no issue.
guidelines: (1) take detailed pics of print (2) take detailed pics of packing (3) send ONLY to the ebay/paypal provided address (4) use a shipping service with tracking and pay for the FULL insurance (5) drop it at shipping service AND get a receipt once it is scanned in the system (6) provide tracking in the ebay listing once it is shipped (automatically generated if you buy thru ebay) (7) extra protection = require SIGNATURE upon delivery to ensure recipient signs for it
the buyer has no recourse if you follow those steps and they say they didn't receive it. if it arrives damaged... you have a full case of evidence for insurance claim.

Eelus eBay transaction, by Poster Bob on Dec 8, 2016 18:06:43 GMT 1, If they say it arrived damaged they say it is due to poor packaging and you instantly lose the case. I've been using Ebay for 15 years and I've dealt with an amazing amount of BS and poor service on their part but they're the biggest market so there isn't much more of an option as to where else to sell.

if you have photos of the print AND packaging without damage (prior to shipping).... and it shows up damaged, then you can file an insurance claim as it was damaged in transit. you are covered. the whole point of insurance.

No, he is saying
"Meanwhile on expresso beans"
So the guy making the offer is on there discussing the other side.
Someone could probably put these guys in touch.

Eelus eBay transaction, by Bazaaart on Dec 15, 2016 20:32:53 GMT 1, Hey everyone, us collectors have recently launched an open market strictly for buying and selling secondary art. This is to help the buyers and sellers with more options than to just sell on ebay and the forums and make the transaction process more convenient and safer for all.
Please consider we just got things going so the inventory is slim, more pop art than urban art and we ask anyone wanting to try a new market please check us out. Thanks for the support!
