Japanese Artists , by tobeannounced on Dec 9, 2016 19:31:19 GMT 1, I just bought my first Takashi Murakami print and have been trying to dig into the japanese art scene, but find it a bit hard to navigate do to the language barrier.
Are there any artists any of you guys can recommend that I should be on the look-out for?

Japanese Artists , by whob1 on Dec 9, 2016 19:39:28 GMT 1, Congrats with your first Murakami. What did you buy? Big fan of him myself. Of course a bit too many versions of different "Dobs", but the best ones are really great. Thinking of buying "Nirvana". The new "727" with a touch of street art is nice.
But for your question, have no idea

Japanese Artists , by tobeannounced on Dec 10, 2016 21:48:43 GMT 1, I just stumbled across an artist called Shoshei Otomo, that I'd like to share... I can't seem to find so much available from him to buy though, but I really love his style.

Tomoo Gokita. His work is STUNNING (distorted/abstracted semi-portraits in greyscale; think Antony Micallef but in black and white) and he has been pretty diverse, from Deerhoof album art to an extensive international exhibition history. Read more about him here: artasiapacific.com/Magazine/94/OneThousandShadesOfGray

Here are the two pieces we have on our walls...
I also love Shintaro Ohata's work. His combo sculpture/paintings are nuts, but I also dig his 2d paintings.

Japanese Artists , by guru59 on Mar 12, 2017 15:24:22 GMT 1, Insane work in person. If you've never been to one of his shows, definitely check it out if you're in the area. Currently in Hong Kong I think. His prints, very few, are quite nice as well. Very hard to print based on the number of layers and then hand finished. Lots of value in my opinion yet he doesn't market to the print world, he's in a different ball game than most his age.
