Banksy Bomb Hugger Print, by silvermyn on Mar 5, 2014 8:59:54 GMT 1, IMO £7k is a very fair offer for this print.
A signed Happy Choppers sold for £7k at Bonhams last night. Once the commission is taken off, the seller will be getting just over £6k.
Best of luck with the search, hopefully you will find a seller who is realistic when it comes to the value of these prints.

The figure you are quoting includes the premium charged to the buyer but not the VAT, if there was any VAT.
If you take the 25% buyer's premium off the £8,750.00 then you should find that the winning bid (the maximum someone was willing to offer for the print on the day) was £7,000.00.

Banksy Bomb Hugger Print, by Ponyboy Curtis on Mar 5, 2014 15:46:34 GMT 1, That's a bit misleading - So did the buyer pay £7k or £8750? I think he paid £8750. Doesn't matter if it was VAT/Biscuit Tax/Tuesday tax or another cost...the fact is it cost the buyer £8750 to get the print. Unless I'm missing something?
If I buy something I don't tell people what the cost was less VAT. Doubt you do either.

Banksy Bomb Hugger Print, by silvermyn on Mar 5, 2014 19:15:06 GMT 1, That's a bit misleading - So did the buyer pay £7k or £8750? I think he paid £8750. If I buy something I don't tell people what the cost was less VAT. Doubt you do either. I don't agree with that as being misleading and I think you have missed the point.
The price someone was willing to pay for the print was £7,000.00 (the highest bid). The price the buyer was willing to pay for dealing through a reputable action house was the premium of £1,750.00 plus any VAT.
If you're buying privately, you take your chances in respect of any comeback you might have against the seller. You might be buying a stolen piece, restored piece, forgery or whatever. Your comeback would be limited against a private individual and very expensive to pursue. The upside of a private transaction of course is that you don't pay any premium or VAT.
Bottom line is this: the winning bid for HC last night was £7,000.00. That is not taking account of buyer's premium, VAT, the cost of getting to the auction, the cost of a day off work or any other associated costs you might feel the need to factor in.

Banksy Bomb Hugger Print, by silvermyn on Mar 5, 2014 20:55:20 GMT 1, I think you might be the only one focussed on the "cost" of the HC last night. I'm interested in considering the "valuation" of the print.
When valuing these prints using auction results, if you are going to take into account the associated costs incurred by a buyer then it's only fair to take into account the associated costs incurred by the seller.
The result of that approach in private transactions is that you can end up poles apart and there can be no logical agreement on the value of the print. Potential sellers usually end up with a hugely inflated view of the value of the print because they are just not willing to look at the other side of the coin. That is well within their prerogative but is not particularly constructive if a reasonable offer is on the table.
That's why auction results are very useful. There is a hammer price, which is in between what the buyer eventually paid and what the seller eventually received. There really is no other way to objectively determine market value IMHO than to take the hammer price, the price it sold at.
If I had a signed Bomb Hugger for sale and someone offered me £7,000.00 cash then I'd say that was a fair price baring in mind how much it would cost for me to go to auction. It would also cost the buyer more and the only real winner in an auction is the auction house. The profit made by the auction house could easily have remained split between seller and buyer had a deal been negotiated privately.

Banksy Bomb Hugger Print, by Ponyboy Curtis on Mar 5, 2014 23:29:44 GMT 1, I'm all for talking down the price of Banksys work but you're assuming that the buyer wasn't aware of the extra costs. I'm suggesting that he knew this, was prepared to pay it and thus the full amount he paid is the value of it.
put it this way. Do you think he'll sell it for 7k or closer to 9k?
