Santas Ghetto 2002 - Dragon Bar, by Deleted on Jul 15, 2014 14:05:58 GMT 1, man it's crazy just HOW MUCH good stuff he's done. any one of these pieces would be quite an accomplishment for an artist... but there's sooooo many of them. with all the focus on his prints, I sometimes forget just how prolific he's been

Santas Ghetto 2002 - Dragon Bar, by King Ryan Sturtz on Sept 7, 2018 12:34:03 GMT 1, so oddly enough I found myself backstage at this music festival in nyc in the green room choppin it up with some people when my story about visiting the walled off hotel in palestine came about. One of the people I was talking to confirmed banksy is 1 person and his friend who used to bartend at dragon bar actually dated him for about 5 years. very cool to see some of the work from SG back in 2002!

Santas Ghetto 2002 - Dragon Bar, by jimbofatz on Oct 15, 2018 15:09:44 GMT 1, Alongside Banksy, Hewlett and Mode 2 - one of the best-known graffiti artists to come out of the 1980s aerosol-paint craze - is Steve Lazarides. SO NOW BANKSY IS COMING OUT OF THE 80s. That f**kkeeps aging poor bastard. It is typical of Banksy (whose real name is Robert Banks...) haha Goldie said Robin.
3D is banksy

The writer is clearly talking about Mode 2.

If you were 23 in 2003, youโre only 38 now rather than 48. Hope that cheers you up - itโs not as bad as you thought.

The writer is clearly talking about Mode 2. Granted "Alongside..." could go either way. Wouldn't call it clearly talking about though.
At the end of the day I'm not here to tell you your ghetto Santa doesn't exist -- keep believing and happy shopping.

Steve posted a couple of early pricelists on his insta a while back but assuming they are gone now

Santas Ghetto 2002 - Dragon Bar, by trasbash on Feb 17, 2024 11:04:01 GMT 1, Unsure if this has been shared on here, however i've just finished reading the Dragon Bar Book and it's truely brilliant if you're in any way interested in street art.
The book is an oral history of the Londonโs iconic Dragon Bar featuring contributions from the pioneers of street art, including Banksy, Faile, INVADER, ELK, Mode 2, EINE, Lucie Flynn, CEPT, Sweet Toof, AIKO, James Jessop and many more.
It wasnโt obvious at the time that the Dragon Bar in Londonโs Old Street was to be an era-defining place filled with decade-defining artists.
No one knew these people would go on to do the things they did but when we looked back, and asked around, the artists agreed.
The Dragon Bar was a moment in art history that deserves a book about it... The Dragon Bar toilets were legendarily graffitied, there were block parties out the back and the gallery space upstairs was given to artists for free.
Banksy had his first ever London show there, Faile and Bรคst had their first UK shows there, INVADER stuck one of his space invaders outside. And then it mysteriously burned downโฆ
You can buy it here: link

Santas Ghetto 2002 - Dragon Bar, by Onket on Feb 17, 2024 14:39:24 GMT 1, Yes, it's been mentioned on the book thread.
I've ordered the book, but for me the Dragon Bar was overhyped, The Foundry was better, and 150/180 Bar too.
None of them are around anymore. I think 150/180 Bar is the only building still standing, but I'm not sure if you can drink within the same footprint.

As a bar perhaps there was better. As a hub for all things street art and the community, it was pretty seminal.
First major shows for Banksy and Faile all with Eine serving the drinks.

By chance, do you work in a creative field?
The style of the photographs you've taken of this book suggests you may be in graphic design, or possibly marketing.

Santas Ghetto 2002 - Dragon Bar, by trasbash on Feb 18, 2024 11:39:04 GMT 1, I know one of the authors. I'm no where near talented, connected or hardworking enough to pull that together - so the images are official, sent to me by the author and not taken by me.
Is it against the rules to big-up something that a friend / you have created or is it that a few of the members on here fancy themselves as Forum Miss Marple's with a mission to weasel out any sign of deceit?
Whether he's a mate or not - it's an awesome read.

Santas Ghetto 2002 - Dragon Bar, by drip on Feb 18, 2024 11:50:42 GMT 1, Nobody, proportionately very few, would think any less of you if you promoted or took pride in something you, or a friend, has made.
People, some people, just don't like feeling deceived or manipulated, even in small ways.
This forum has a long history, a tradition if you will, of folk spinning yarns to promote something they want to sell. And most of the time, there's completely no need to be weird and mysterious about the whole thing.
Then they get called out, they get defensive, their hackles go up, and then the next thing, insults and counter-insults start flying. Completely making a whole dog's dinner of something that should never have been a big deal in the first place. Just say you've had some Banksy badges made, right from the start.
Anyway, the book looks great, and I'm sure it's a thrilling read. Well done to your mate.
