Santa's Ghetto 2006, by Ågent ßacardi on Dec 23, 2006 21:48:26 GMT 1, Anyone see this random kermit looking thing?! Wasn't there last time I went, in the video room (bit dark!)...
Perhaps it's not an 'official' Ghetto thing, just some aspiring artist who put it up there? "Pulled a Banksy", if you would ;D The same thing happened during the Barely Legal show, but it was taken down after less than an hour.

Santa's Ghetto 2006, by nightfever on Nov 22, 2006 18:05:39 GMT 1, In previous years, Santa's Ghetto has run throughout December.
Last year saw the release of the 'Police Kids' prints, now commonly known as 'Jack and Jill.'
There were only a limited number of these released through the Ghetto, 100 signed and 100 unsigned, I believe.
They were not available on the day of opening, but released sporadically throughout.
I wouldn't get too excited about all the new prints being available at the same time.

Santa's Ghetto 2006, by nightfever on Nov 22, 2006 19:08:18 GMT 1, Mammal, No doubt it's still up in the air. Banksy's popularity is far greater at the other Ghetto's. Perhaps they may decide not to release any of the Banksy prints, then there may be more focus on the other artists.

Santa's Ghetto 2006, by mammal2 on Nov 22, 2006 19:58:42 GMT 1, I am inclined to agree. Will still take loads of cash hoping to snaffle a print or two. What has been the print situation from previous Getto outings. Could you buy any from day one or were they all eaten up at the launch party?

Were they also made available online? Or were they Ghetto-only?
I hate being in America
Oh well, I can take comfort in the fact that they've said Banksy prints will only be released online, and this year's Ghetto will probably be about other artists But still, I'm crazy about Dolk, and wonder if there'll be any new stuff that's exclusive to the Ghetto

Santa's Ghetto 2006, by gm on Nov 22, 2006 23:12:19 GMT 1,
Reaper was POW first.
I remember, cos the first time I saw the reaper was on POW and I thought "I'd really like one of those", but it's a bit expensive. When I went into the Ghetto several days later they'd just arrived, and it looked so amazing in the flesh that I got one there and then.
It even survived the slightly raucous gig I went straight on to, and the pished train journey home in one undamaged piece
J&J was Ghetto first.
I only saw the canvas in there and wasn't aware that the prints were available, although I found out afterwards that they were. Wouldn't have got one anyway, as it's not one of my favourite images.

Santa's Ghetto 2006, by mido on Jan 15, 2007 4:03:25 GMT 1, the prints are the same (they are both silver), except one is (strangely) not numbered.
for some unknown reason POW have NEVER put this print up for sale on their website. I got mine on a buying visit to POW office in early-ish 2006 (info on the Eine forum). they know I love Eine's work, and asked if I wanted one.
I'm a bit surprised one is advertised as #51. Not many had sold when I got mine, and it has never been on the website and no-one seemed interested when I mentioned it on forums (not manty people seem to like Eine). I never managed to get to SG but 'The tashkent terror' (abdoujaparov ) says it was sold there so that might explain why at least 51 have been sold now.
It may not actually be sold out yet, so I would say 'caveat emptor' - buyer beware.
The un-numbered/stamped one is probably a genuine mistake (the signature is certainly 100% kosher from the photo), but does of course reduce it's value and provenance to many people. mistakes do happen (mine was originally numbered out of 100! - and the stamp was done too hard - POW have to be VERY careful stamping black and chrome prints, they can damage badly), but unless you get them correctled you run the risk that if you sell it, then you have to explain it, and realise it might affect the value.
persoanlly, I would suggest that abdou pulls the listing, gets the numbering/stamp sorted, and then decides what to do with it...

Santa's Ghetto 2006, by mido on Jan 15, 2007 4:06:27 GMT 1, I didn't get to SG, but I did go to the peter Kennard & cat Picton-phillips space in Dalston last week, and an image exactly as you describe is part of one of the montages on show. Very powerful, especially when it's 8 foot tall and IN YER FACE!
There was a print next to the Mona Simpson to the right of the cash desk which has Blair and Bush walking into No. 10 with an Iraqi prisoner of war sat on the doorstep. What is this pic? Is it Kennard?

Santa's Ghetto 2006, by bristolmassive on Dec 11, 2006 16:36:13 GMT 1, Just a quick note to say to anyone who hasn't yet made it...go! I found the staff really helpful when I asked for a tittifreaks betty page print - unfortunately they'd sold out but allowed me to purchase the very last one from the poster rack (brilliant print btw) Queing behind Thom Yorke from Radiohead just about rapped things up nicely. Shame I just missed out on the FF Mecaliff!
