Framing suggestions please, by Jaylove on Jan 14, 2017 11:04:51 GMT 1, I'm still debating whether I should float this print as per below:
or use a mat. Any help would be appreciated Size is 40 inches by 40 inches.

Framing suggestions please, by avec art on Jan 14, 2017 11:56:48 GMT 1, Because of the fairly wide border, I'm not sure if it needs floating. I think a mount or just spacers would look good and you'll have none of the buckling that can happen with float mounting over time. I also think a darker frame might be a distraction on a delicate looking print like this, going lighter could be considered.

Framing suggestions please, by Larry David on Jan 14, 2017 14:23:39 GMT 1, Mine is with Mark at PFG at the Mo, will post a pic when its back. Went for chunky black frame and white spacers framed to the edge as it has a natural border.

This thing has been on my kitchen table this whole time .

Means with a mat. I agree with chads, best framing option. I only suggested alternative if wanted a bit more space around image.

Framing suggestions please, by rjf76 on Jan 21, 2017 15:48:27 GMT 1, Is that for UV or museum glass?
For UV, that should be about £300(?) from reputable framer...museum glass will add a fair bit to that but not double.

Framing suggestions please, by Deleted on Jan 21, 2017 16:19:15 GMT 1, My choice would be a white or a black matt with the frame simple and the same color as the matt. For this type of op art image I don't see the advantage of floating.

Framing suggestions please, by Jaylove on Jan 21, 2017 21:07:42 GMT 1, Because of the fairly wide border, I'm not sure if it needs floating. I think a mount or just spacers would look good and you'll have none of the buckling that can happen with float mounting over time. I also think a darker frame might be a distraction on a delicate looking print like this, going lighter could be considered. Ended up going with this suggestion. Black, wooden frame to the edge of the print with spacers. Decent enough price.
So off to the framers and the wait begins.

Framing suggestions please, by avec art on Jan 21, 2017 22:25:14 GMT 1, Sounds good Jaylove. I also look forward to seeing results. I've been using clear spacers that I source from Lions Picture framers, but also use wood ones, which I can then paint myself, and a neutral white to match the print would be fine.

I've been using clear spacers that I source from Lions Picture framers, but also use wood ones, which I can then paint myself, and a neutral white to match the print would be fine. I ended up getting black spacers because the white ones clashed with the off white color of the border. I'm wondering if I made the right decision or not.

Framing suggestions please, by avec art on Jan 22, 2017 17:37:51 GMT 1, It sounds like a fine choice. I also don't like it when a white clashes or is just out of sync with the colour of the actually print. A viewer doesn't normally notice the spacers so any discreet or neutral colour in this instance is good I reckon, as as you've also gone for a black frame it should all go together quite well I would of thought.
It is also not too hard to change the spacers yourself. You can buy a simple hand tool and 'glazier points' or pegs to put the backing board back in place once the old pegs have been wiggled out and removed. Then you'll need to re-seal with French tape, which is not hard to learn to do. If you wanted you could just re-paint the existing spacers, spray paint gives a consistent flat finish, but brush is satisfactory.
