I really like that this Banksy is on public display.

Me too. The other Banksy in Toronto that is still up from 2010 is in an alley behind a piece of Plexiglas. You'd never see it if you didn't hunt for it. Nice that this is so visible.

Guard with Balloon Dog [Toronto, Canada], by highflyer on Feb 20, 2017 22:02:22 GMT 1, My wife and I went down to the waterfront today to see the new Banksy that was recently (last week) unveiled in the pedestrian walkway of a brand new office tower in downtown Toronto. The piece was done by Banksy when he was in Toronto in May 2010 on a building slated for demolition. The developer who owned that building had the mural removed and professionally stored before demolition, with a plan to put it back in the new building. That happened last week, and the piece is now on display in a public pedestrian walkway. Here is an article with more details: www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/banksy-art-path-pedestrian-walkway-1.3980193 Here are some cell phone shots I took today. Really lovely piece! Original in-situ view: Some info on the building it was placed on:
That's fantastic! Thanks

its context is now completely lost, part of its beauty is its decay, but that's okay in the new fake plastic world, age, death and obsolescence can be forgotten until it happens to ourselves (and then no one will care).

Guard with Balloon Dog [Toronto, Canada], by Rouen Cathedral on Mar 7, 2017 12:52:03 GMT 1, I know a lot of people hate when these are removed and say 'who the heck would display a part of the wall'. I usually agree.
But in the right space that or something similar would look incredible.

Toronto based Struck Contemporary Gallery also has an account here. I've also purchased from another Montreal-based member (chichicarter), so there are at least 5 of us representing Canada
I went to go check this piece out a couple weeks ago and I thought it was very tastefully presented. That said, I also had the opportunity to see it in its original location before the building was demolished - way more satisfying seeing it in its intended location. Looks like they cleaned it up quite a bit because I'm pretty sure that when I saw it in its original location it had a plethora of (non-Banksy) graffiti around it.

It's a great big piece for sure! Have you seen the small one still protected by plexiglass on Church by the Esplanade?

Pretty decent documentary on it here. They definitely spent huge $ doing this and ultimately the building was being destroyed and was not for sale afterwards so don't see the harm here at all.

Also had the chance to see the rat that was put up in Chinatown and one of the placard businessmen put up in Graffiti Alley - those two are long gone now. The Guard with Balloon Dog was the best of the bunch in my opinion. I did love seeing a rat in the flesh though.
