I guess you should have bid more...or stayed until the end? Sometimes people change their minds and things get sold, he's a good guy. Let's not forget that the money went to charity/swoon and that your bid would have raised less money.

Swoon πΊπΈ Contemporary Art β’ Street Art β’ Art For Sale, by Carnage NYC on Jul 22, 2008 20:51:33 GMT 1, my point is that i don't mind getting outbid by someone who is a collector who will give that piece a good home, but instead i find it for sale on the banksy board a few days later. your friend has every right to do that, but it's still kinda sad. sign of the times i guess.

Swoon πΊπΈ Contemporary Art β’ Street Art β’ Art For Sale, by thomyorke on Jul 24, 2008 4:26:36 GMT 1, Seriously, everyone on this forum peddles art. You are so righteous sabeth. Have you ever sold anything before for a profit? What is the difference between you and this dudes friend? Pot calling the kettle black? Why do people feel the need to blue ball ever trade or sale on this forum? Can you explain what exactly is wrong with someone purchasing something and then taking offers on it? What difference does it make. Let it be.

2. it was a benefit auction
3. it was a benefit auction
4. the gallery did a month long show with nothing for sale for Swoon prior to this, and they were trying to recoup some money.
5. We (people who collect Swoon) are passionate about her work getting in the hands of people who actually give a shit. So yea, its pretty disappointing to see it for sale a day after he bought it.
Correct me if I am wrong Sabeth, but that is your point?...

We (people who collect Swoon) are passionate about her work getting in the hands of people who actually give a s**t. So yea, its pretty disappointing to see it for sale a day after he bought it. /quote] I am still unclear as to why you feel that you speak for all people collecting swoon. I have been collecting her work for a very long time and I am currently trying to negotiate with Mr classy to sell the piece he posted to me. Seems like all your comments scared the seller from selling. So good job with that. If you guys wanted it so bad, go there and spend the money to get it. Unless you are independently wealthy and unemployed, I would not waste your time trying to get art in the hands of people that meet your rigorous test of being passionate or not. Good day

Swoon πΊπΈ Contemporary Art β’ Street Art β’ Art For Sale, by ricosg11 on Jul 24, 2008 15:59:50 GMT 1, see to me its not a waste of time. I would do everything in my power to protect her work. Thats what collectors do.
just wait for the paper monster release. You will probably pick it up far cheaper and you will be directly supporting Swoon and her publisher. Again, what I think would be more of a priority for a collector.

Hey everyone sorry to be out of touch - I will respond to all the PMs in turn please be patient.
I'm not really one for engaging in the pissing contest about who is really a collector who isn't and not am not a huge fan of people telling others when they can and can't sell their art as we're all adults here, but with that said I spoke to my friend...he says he met "ricosg" at the auction and that the guy couldn't stop talking himself up about how much money he made "flipping" banksy prints and how much money there was to be made in Parla's work and it just seems this holier than thou business is a bunch of hot air.
Rico, are you saying that my friend somehow deprived the gallery of money? Please explain how this is so, as he paid the gallery MORE than they would have made if the next bid had won?? Also, how much of the cash you made from "flipping" Banksy prints did you give back to the artist?

Swoon πΊπΈ Contemporary Art β’ Street Art β’ Art For Sale, by ricosg11 on Jul 24, 2008 20:02:45 GMT 1, cool man. Totally misinerpreted though, Banksy bit is at least half right. Selling his prints allowed me to buy art that I love and can grow with.
As for Parla, kid said his parents wanted a piece and I just explained to him how his work had changed my life and allowed me to walk around the city and see peeling paint, scribbled tags, and torn posters as art. If that's bigging myself up, so be it.
As for arguing over the merits of instantly flipping a piece from a benefit auction...Ive said what I have to say.
goodluck with the sale buddy. Better yet enjoy your print. Peace.
