Richard Prince ๐บ๐ธ Painter & Photographer โข Art For Sale, by Howard Johnson on May 23, 2018 18:54:13 GMT 1, I've really wanted one or two of the Richard Prince "Untitled (Protest)" pieces, but unfortunately they are only sold in a portfolio of 11 ($10,200). The price is super reasonable at around $950 a print. The images are great IMHO, but they are pornographic, so, you know, probably wont be everyone's cup of tea.
Anyways, the set details and pics can be seen at the link below. If your willing to commit to one or more of these prints please shoot me a DM. I'll organize the purchase and split the prints. If your a new member and would like to participate, please just include a reference in your DM.
The prints are a nice size and are an edition of 45.
Thanks!

Am I reading/seeing this correctly? That is correct. What I would do is send a copy of the signature sheet with a detailed letter of provenance to each buyer if people are interested. Its obviously not ideal, but cant beat that price!

Richard Prince ๐บ๐ธ Painter & Photographer โข Art For Sale, by moron on Jun 13, 2018 21:41:22 GMT 1, Iโm new to the forum and wondered whether Richard Prince has much of a following/ collector base here? Small, but I'm doing my best to spread awareness of all things Richard Prince. He's my favorite living artist, and even as a true believer, I have to agree with the comments about how his ideas are sometimes better then the execution. However, he's done a ton of amazing work beyond the nurses and cowboys. Canal Zone, De Kooning, upstate, and his early re-photography are some of my personal favorites. I wonder how these will look in person, but the image doesn't really do all that much for me beyond the concept behind it. I'd say it's comparable to "jawbone", it's interesting from a conceptual perspective, but the image itself is somewhat lackluster. Can't beat the price and cause though! I believe he did a canvas edition of a similar image and it's quite pricy on secondary market. He has some very impressive paintings on his site of fishermen and octopus etc. Are they by his hand?

Richard Prince ๐บ๐ธ Painter & Photographer โข Art For Sale, by Howard Johnson on Aug 23, 2018 1:57:43 GMT 1, Hey guys. As many of you know I'm an obsessive Richard Prince fan, and I unfortunately missed out on the signed print. I did get an unsigned one and was wondering if anyone would be willing to swap me their signed copy, with cash or a trade on top? I have portfolios full of richard prince ephemera to choose from if you fancy a trade, or we can just do good ol' trade plus cash. Fingers crossed. Thank you in advance!

Richard Prince ๐บ๐ธ Painter & Photographer โข Art For Sale, by Howard Johnson on Aug 23, 2018 20:54:07 GMT 1, would Prince mind if someone appropriated his stormy daniels photo mix thing and re sold it under their name as appropriation art? Nope. I think his reaction to the Suicide Girls situation is pretty good evidence of that. I've used a handful of his images in my own work (I typically add layers of paint and collage to obscure the source image) because I believe he would be supportive of others appropriating and reworking his imagery. It's kinds his whole artistic philosophy.

On the plagiarism side i'm sort of in two minds about Prince as he stole and made a lot of money out of people who make very little money plus combined it with a lot of arrogance.

On the plagiarism side i'm sort of in two minds about Prince as he stole and made a lot of money out of people who make very little money plus combined it with a lot of arrogance. Hes one of those artist that explicitly raises the question, "what is art?" To me, these types of artists tend to be the most interesting.
Has he "stolen" from other artists? Yes and no.
There are very few works of his that are straight up appropriations. At the very least he rephotographs the original works, and in doing so, typically changes the composition and usually the overall meaning of the image. More often then not, he uses appropriated images as part of collage or painting or makes completely original images (like the one this thread pertains too). The Instagram portraits are another story, but I harbor the conspiracy theory that specific exhibition was really about the public's reaction to the art as it was about the artwork itself.
Prince is probably the most notorious "appropriation artist," but the reality is that some of Shepard Fairey's work is just as "bad" if not worse, and Mr. B himself arguably used the same tactics when creating some of his most iconic images.
Richard just confronts it head on; its like he walks out of a gallery with someones painting, walks to his studio and displays it as his own, then throws his middle finger in the air and asks the world "what are you gonna do about it." This is an exaggeration of course, but his publicity campaigns often feel like that is exactly what is happening. Its ballsy, anti-authoritarian, and flys in the face of everything the elite art world and their lawyers represent.
In other words, hes philosophy shares many similarities to the major street artists, and his work has consistently pushed the bounds of what is acceptable and what is "art." You may not always like the work itself, but the dude is certainly one of the most interesting artists of our generation.

It's a bit like a burgler or pickpocket raising the question about what is theft.
I do not buy the bullshit from Prince if he said that.
I'm no lawyer but I do know that copyright belongs to the original photographer and re editing or re photographing a photo is still in breach of copyright and image theft when it is done for commercial purposes.
Anyone can call themselves an artists and say it's all about what is art but we all know it's pure garbage.
So if someone re photographed Richard Princes art and started selling it. I am sure he would take legal action in an instant. Protecting his artist integrity and all that jazz. When it comes to money often the more money art sells for the more pompous bullshitters it attracts.
Fairey made a career out of plagiarism and that was his business plan from the start. Plus he is a liar who lied in court so all round a good example of someone who rides on the back of SJW stuff today to sell his photo shopped wrapping paper. I don't mind the fact thet Fairey does what he does, I guess someone has to play that role but when he is interviewed man he is fucking boring.
I do not believe for one second that Prince is pushing the bounds of what is acceptable or not. I think he enjoys stealing images it gives him a buzz or a boner when he does it and he is careful in stealing from harmless people.
His poster of Spermy Daniels is just another shot at Trump who we all know is the saviour of the world as we never knew it. A woman who had sex with a married man and took a big payment for being discreet about it and now decides to play the victim. People have affairs all teh time, some wealthy married men attract gold diggers who have sex with them.
I think Prince gets away with it because of his so called status in the art world or art world circles that believe that this type of plagiarism is art. I also believe that US judges favour US artists like Prince when they steal from non US based persons.
Certainly Banksy has used images mainly from journalistic sources.
Richard Prince would never make the mistake Alexander McQueen made when he decided to use the Hells Angels ("a non-profit mutual benefit corporation") logo in his fashion designs.
