Invader Aladdin Sane Print, by Deleted on Oct 4, 2014 16:34:44 GMT 1, Thank you my friends. Well, a post yesterday, the third one since I am here ( the first one was strongly anti-French ) about google translator ( it was clearly an attack yesterday, that I known nothing in art, without name me apart " goolge translator " etc... Who really knows art ? Snobish guys in contemporary galleries ? Talk about street-art to these guys and they will laugh at you... Some others friends blocked me too ( I know I post a lot and I know that it could irritate some of us ) , and it was persons that I love and respect... There was this mail also about the wrong threads, etc... What is funny is that I saw one person talking today about Invader ' s print ( yesterday, she said that Invader was sh.t ) .. I 'd like to know what people think about Stik per example ? Do tehy rellay love Stik or just for flipping and value... Well, my thoughts are not in order, yeps, I don't think that I am here the most welcome... Ps : Concerning Banksy and the lack of comments, I 'd like to say something about : Why do people, Journalists, politics, newspapers, media only speak ot this artwork in term of value ? And not about the real painting, his meaning, etc... Where is the man ? When you read " Banksy " now, it is like a brand ( and it s really a shame , they forget the human, the real person ) , they associate and resume the artist in 2 or 3 words : " Banksy/Value " and " defaced or not " , understand they loose K of $ . So, Banksy 's Artworks are already now $$ ££ even on, the walls in the streets ? And I did not speak about Bonhams, auctions, records, etc, etc.. Ah forum friends, well it's internet, it comes and goes. What do we know behind reasons, or motives. Internet should be like any other interest, interesting and fun. If not, see a film or do art? At least it is only on internet..worse if people block or ignore you irl.

Invader Aladdin Sane Print, by Jimmy Oscar on Oct 4, 2014 16:38:39 GMT 1, If print releases are destined for the masses why did Invader price it at 350 and not 50 then? Market forces at play no matter the price he sets - 350 is too much for some, so is 50. Thats life. And no flippers won't increase their prices - they cant - because they've sold it at market value. Thats not really a difficult concept. The new KAWS print won't get flipped - just like the OS release last year hasn't been flipped, you can get it on the secondary for the release price. It seems me being a realist offends some - but its the nature of this big bad world we live in. When you come back down from cloud cuckoo land give the rest of us living down in the real world a shout. You are not realistic, because an IPO of a corporation is also not always at market value. The market itself after the IPO will price the stock for market value. Now to get back to the art. I don't think that an artist has interest to sell at a so called 'market value'. Unless you are Hirst. The intention is to sell prints for people that have no chance to buy an original. As long there is a demand, the price may rise, whether with or without flippers, so market value is never constant. And yes, I do live in a realistic world. I am glad I do.
The IPO price is generally only available to insiders - institutional investors (pension funds for example) who are buying huge numbers.
Alibaba popped 20% before the bell rang from the initial price.
So not a solid comparison unless you're suggesting a print is available only to VIPs and then immediately on release the print price increases by 20%?
But your argument is valid - and I have no problem with it.
So why do so many frown on flippers then? You cant have it both ways surely - either price the print right at release or don't complain when it's flipped.

Invader Aladdin Sane Print, by Deleted on Oct 4, 2014 16:45:22 GMT 1, It not only stops flippers, but also lot of people that admire art and can't afford it anymore. I don't think that is the best solution to increase the price. Maybe I am weird but this Jimmy Ferrari is worse than me ; no in fact, it is a banal and true story now : The laws of the capitalism. Only thie rich and stongs win, and kills the poors. We don't care about flippers, how many are they ? 5 or the to fight on ebay ?! On a sale of more than 300 prints it is about 10 % ( to speak economy and print ) ... Well, I think that I will leave this forum, I read and heard " ?;/!?xx!:; " this end of the week. And my firends left me. Please don't leave mate. I was going to leave a few weeks ago and a kind forum member convinced me not to. We need more people like you, not less

Crepe au chocolate...lovely Ps I like Stiks story but if I want to hang a stick man on my wall I'll get my 4 year old daughter to do it, shes brilliant. Also bloody shame there isn't more talk about Banksys art and thinking, his story is incredible and that Rascist birdy one is one of my favourites so far.

Invader Aladdin Sane Print, by Deleted on Oct 4, 2014 17:25:55 GMT 1, People get mad at flippers b/c they're upset they missed out. Most realize that they are an inevitable part of print releases, and applaud efforts to thwart them (such as those employed by POW, or doing a surprise print release like CH) while not letting it get to them in general. I believe people would be much more upset if they were priced out of purchasing the art from the outset due to the artist setting high prices; it also really changes how you look at the artist, since prints - like all above have said - are usually supposed to be for people who love the artist but can't afford originals.
Most people on here flip out (I see what I did there) when people openly flip on here because this is supposed to be a place for art fans, etc. so to be on here and do that is essentially like screwing your community members over for your own benefit. And it certainly isn't something that should be encouraged, since anyone can do it and it's mostly only one's conscience/empathy that prevents them from doing so, so gotta knock them down a peg morally when possible.

I have no issue with folks selling for a profit, but come on, 24 hours after the realease without even havin it in hand, just shows you don't care about the community aspect of this forum. S

Invader Aladdin Sane Print, by Deleted on Oct 4, 2014 17:42:04 GMT 1, Yeah, flipping on this forum is kind of like banging a friend's attractive wife. Sure there is inner-incentive to do it, but it comes from the wrong place and you know it'll destroy the moral and social fabric of the community and your relationships within.
And offend the hell out of random onlookers.

Being an urban artist and only releasing prints for $3,000+ also kind of makes you look like an ass, or - how do you say - not 'urban.'
OS GEMEOS did not release their print at market value. In fact, it was the biggest flip of a print I've seen to date (in terms of the amount of $$$ made on individual re-sales, not the %).

In fact, it was the biggest flip of a print I've seen to date (in terms of the amount of $$$ made on individual re-sales, not the %). I guess that depends on what 'market value' means - there will always be those who buy based on emotion immediately after missing out and spend a lot of money. I think $5,000 was pretty close to market value, and many of the recent ones have been going for 6-7, heading slightly downward. I'd also argue that % is the proper way to measure how close the artist came to market value, rather than the amount of money made by flippers.
Again, always hard to predict (and like others said, there will always be a secondary market, so unless the artist overprices the print then you probably won't see the true market value until maybe a year later).
Don't really want to talk about that stuff right now though (pricing, market rates), or just in general; it's a drag.

You're right - cheap print releases allow those to buy art.
Great. But unfortunately it also allows those who don't care to buy it - and then rip off those that do.
There are a million things that people admire that they cant afford - thats life - thats the world we live in.

Clearly a quote from someone with far too much spare cash. I would've paid $900 dollars for this as it's far too much money for me to spend. But how does that not make me a fan of invaders work. I really like Vintage Gibson guitars but won't spend £6k on one. Silly quote.

Invader Aladdin Sane Print, by Deleted on Oct 4, 2014 18:40:11 GMT 1, You are not realistic, because an IPO of a corporation is also not always at market value. "Alibaba popped 20% before the bell rang" ?
urgh..how did you find your way to this culture. Just f'ing awful. Where did all the nasty little Englanders come from. It's like Tory central in here sometimes.

Save the ebay fees, hassle, and I'll owe you one (I don't say that lightly). Send that Invader home to Me. Based in USA. Thanks for your time.

The problem arises when the person on the receiving end abuses the favor, leading people to do less favors for less people. This happens unfortunately often, and it can be very hard to predict.

Invader Aladdin Sane Print, by Deleted on Oct 4, 2014 19:17:04 GMT 1, Dss - i have been around on this forum since the beginning (under many guises), those good deeds are few and far between these days. Flipping art has been around since the first time someone put a price tag on one. Seems to be those who moan the most about flipping are the noobs - those that have been here since 2006 know better!!

I think a lot more good deeds are done through PM than via threads now, due to the inability to trust people. At least that's what I've started to do, and I've only been here like seven months.
