Invader Aladdin Sane Print, by khog on Oct 3, 2014 23:09:08 GMT 1, I was in Barnstable village (US) today, been on Cape Cod for about 13 years now That is exactly where I grew up (Old Jail Lane). I went to school at BWB and then right through Barnstable High School. I was born and raised in MA too, Burlington to be exact. My sister lived in Pepperell for quite a while.

Invader Aladdin Sane Print, by khog on Oct 4, 2014 1:54:35 GMT 1, Sorry, I participated in the madness yesterday. Carted a pinky, went through checkout and my credit card wasn't accepted, payment was literally in the mail. Tried my debit card also not accepted. POW booted me to a blank screen and kindly emptied my cart. Somehow I magically carted a yellow same thing. Called my bank immediately after, come to find out they block UK sites for some reason or another. Got them to approve POW but shortly after they were all sold out.

Invader Aladdin Sane Print, by benchwarmer on Oct 4, 2014 8:35:04 GMT 1, Even that is debatable. I know a girl who personally hates when little children lose hold of their balloons. Oh, and the part where your gf/wife finds out how much it's worth. I wasn't aware buying art was a solely male preserve? I am female, and a wife... and happy owner of a yellow print! ^ Best thing written in 41 pages. Congrats on the yellow!

Invader Aladdin Sane Print, by Deleted on Oct 4, 2014 10:22:09 GMT 1, I tried at 3PM , I failed. not the end of the world. Its just a print after all
I know someone from my old workplace is is interested purely in the profit and flipping ( has been doing it since Grannies) - he snagged a gold one as soon as he went to the site. and then immedidiatly mailed me to gloat. I offered him cost to take it off his hands- no joy obviously. no idea what these would go for on the flipper market but anything more than cost rule it out for me

Invader Aladdin Sane Print, by Jimmy Oscar on Oct 4, 2014 14:18:37 GMT 1, Same comment I always make on flipping - if the gold one is worth $1500 now - Invader should have sold it as $1500.
Others should have been $900.
Only way to stop flippers - KAWS has it right. Sell your art at release for its true value.
People will bleat on that they can't afford it - that's life - lots I like but can't afford, a Ferrari would be nice.
Sell stuff for its true value - people who want it buy it - no one can flip it.
Easy

We don't care about flippers, how many are they ? 5 or the to fight on ebay ?! On a sale of more than 300 prints it is about 10 % ( to speak economy and print ) ... Well, I think that I will leave this forum, I read and heard " ?;/!?xx!:; " this end of the week. And my firends left me.

Easy There are 1000 people hungry, I produce 100 sandwiches and sell them at $5; 50 people among those who bought the sandwiches sell their sandwich to someone else willing to pay $50 for it; next time I will have to sell my sandwiches to $50 or I'll have to produce 1000 sandwiches and sell them again at $5?? in one of the two cases I will voluntarily stimulate the flippers of sandwich or bring people to buy pizza because the sandwiches are too expensive. The secondary market for art will always exist; and it is thanks to his existence that often the attractiveness of an artist increases even more, supply and demand, price on the secondary market higher than release >> demand demand demand. Just look at Banksy; sadly many people are fascinated more by his amazing record of sales than by his art. many people would like to own a Banksy or a Basquiat for what it's worth more than what it represent at artistic level, but it is precisely this that leads people to want it even more, a global hysteria; in the world there are more fans of the money that fans of the art. supply and demand, market range, art market.

You're right - cheap print releases allow those to buy art.
Great. But unfortunately it also allows those who don't care to buy it - and then rip off those that do.
There are a million things that people admire that they cant afford - thats life - thats the world we live in.
Why should an artist release a print at a reduced price just to appease the masses - noone else does it in this big bad world.
You're all living in fantasy land surrounded by unicorns and rainbows if that's the world you live in.

Maybe art is different than other commodities, just maybe.
Kaws and Os Gemeos seem to be the only 'urban artists' releasing prints at 'market value.' Being an urban artist and only releasing prints for $3,000+ also kind of makes you look like an ass, or - how do you say - not 'urban.'

People "who can afford" should buy originals .... prints are for supporters from the low-end, and I assure you that STREET artists have a lot of supporters from the low-end, maybe that's why they sell more prints than originals

Because those print releases are intentionally supposed to be sold for people that can't buy the original art due to high price of the original or that only one original of the image is produced.
And what if the artist will raise his price, don't you think that flippers will increase their price even further?

And what if the artist will raise his price, don't you think that flippers will increase their price even further?
If print releases are destined for the masses why did Invader price it at 350 and not 50 then?
Market forces at play no matter the price he sets - 350 is too much for some, so is 50. Thats life.
And no flippers won't increase their prices - they cant - because they've sold it at market value. Thats not really a difficult concept.
The new KAWS print won't get flipped - just like the OS release last year hasn't been flipped, you can get it on the secondary for the release price.
It seems me being a realist offends some - but its the nature of this big bad world we live in.
When you come back down from cloud cuckoo land give the rest of us living down in the real world a shout.
"Why should an artist release a print at a reduced price just to appease the masses - noone else does it in this big bad world." Because those print releases are intentionally supposed to be sold for people that can't buy the original art due to high price of the original or that only one original of the image is produced. And what if the artist will raise his price, don't you think that flippers will increase their price even further? Invader Aladdin Sane Print, by Lroy on Oct 4, 2014 16:03:35 GMT 1, Thank you my friends. Well, a post yesterday, the third one since I am here ( the first one was strongly anti-French ) about google translator ( it was clearly an attack yesterday, that I known nothing in art, without name me apart " goolge translator " etc... Who really knows art ? Snobish guys in contemporary galleries ? Talk about street-art to these guys and they will laugh at you... Some others friends blocked me too ( I know I post a lot and I know that it could irritate some of us ) , and it was persons that I love and respect... There was this mail also about the wrong threads, etc... What is funny is that I saw one person talking today about Invader ' s print ( yesterday, she said that Invader was sh.t ) .. I 'd like to know what people think about Stik per example ? Do tehy rellay love Stik or just for flipping and value... Well, my thoughts are not in order, yeps, I don't think that I am here the most welcome...
Ps : Concerning Banksy and the lack of comments, I 'd like to say something about : Why do people, Journalists, politics, newspapers, media only speak ot this artwork in term of value ? And not about the real painting, his meaning, etc... Where is the man ?
When you read " Banksy " now, it is like a brand ( and it s really a shame , they forget the human, the real person ) , they associate and resume the artist in 2 or 3 words : " Banksy/Value " and " defaced or not " , understand they loose K of $ . So, Banksy 's Artworks are already now $$ ££ even on, the walls in the streets ?
And I did not speak about Bonhams, auctions, records, etc, etc..

When you come back down from cloud cuckoo land give the rest of us living down in the real world a shout. You are not realistic, because an IPO of a corporation is also not always at market value. The market itself after the IPO will price the stock for market value.
Now to get back to the art. I don't think that an artist has interest to sell at a so called 'market value'. Unless you are Hirst. The intention is to sell prints for people that have no chance to buy an original. As long there is a demand, the price may rise, whether with or without flippers, so market value is never constant.
And yes, I do live in a realistic world. I am glad I do.
