Had read the article, but honestly I think you need to see this to make any sense of it. It looks overwhelming to say the least !!

I've been a couple of time to the Biennale and it's great. If you stay at Lido (the beach), you can have the best of both worlds!

Damien Hirst: Treasures from the Wreck of the Unbelievable , by Deleted on Apr 8, 2017 10:18:44 GMT 1, Can't wait to see it all. Flights and hotel booked for early June. If you've not been to Venice before it's def worth making the effort - have been planning to take the kids for a while and this is the perfect excuse.

Damien Hirst: Treasures from the Wreck of the Unbelievable , by bob978 on Apr 8, 2017 13:38:11 GMT 1, And here some other snaps from an art magazine preview (sorry, text in Italian language, I try to translate and summarize below).
www.artribune.com/arti-visive/arte-contemporanea/2017/04/damien-hirst-mostra-venezia-pinault/
Great expectation for the forthcoming Damien Hirst exhibit in Venice, it is the first time that Palazzo Grassi and Punta della Dogana buildings are available for the same artist. After a decade, Hirst will propose all completely new artworks striking up a sort of fairytale, a fake news telling about ancient roman characters/myths and deep sea hidden treasures, collectables and EGO projection. The story will be proposed in a written way but also with documentaries and a great selections of installations, some even colossal. He is playing with something between the surreal, likely and anachronistic where Ancient Egypt will be mixed with Koons, the classicity of Vezzoli, the Minoan culture and Banksy. A bit of amusement park, a pinch of conceptualism, a great dose of organizational and crafts wisdoms.

Damien Hirst: Treasures from the Wreck of the Unbelievable , by maroom on Apr 12, 2017 0:46:46 GMT 1, Just back from a great week in Venice with the family. Whilst there we visited this on Sunday.
Starting with the positives, the scale of the whole show and a number of the pieces is very impressive. Also both of the venues are excellent for showcasing art. I think Palazzo Grassi has the stronger content.
When I first heard about this I thought he was going to rip-off Jason deCaires Taylor, but with the statues in displayed large fish tanks within the galleries. However to mine and I see above also augustg's disappointment this isn't the case.
Instead there are just photos and video showing some of the treasure being 'salvaged'. Most of these are at least well mocked up.
What I didn't like is the pieces with the coral and barnacles stuck all over them. These looked plasticy and like seaside gift shop tat.
There's a lot a repetition with many pieces a repeated in different materials and sizes.
Also there's a lot of bling on display. I didn't think the use of gold and gem stones added to the pieces. But no doubt they will sell for a fortune.
Plenty of the pieces are nice enough, but I didn't feel they would be that memorable outside of the context of the show.
I did like the one room with the paper pieces. These where sketches of statues. I didn't read the notes but I assume they are meant to be like pages torn from an old archaeologists notebook.
Overall I'm glad we went. However my 3 sons definitely weren't impressed and I can't really blame them.
Venice was excellent and we were lucky with glorious sunny weather. I wouldn't go there just of for this, but it's an ok alternative to the more traditional art on offer there.

Damien Hirst: Treasures from the Wreck of the Unbelievable , by bob978 on Apr 12, 2017 14:09:44 GMT 1, Great pics maroom! I think the best option is to combine the visit with the Biennale and its thousands of several art side events. The Biennale will open to the public the 13th of May.
I work in Venice, if someone of the forum is coming around next months and is willing to meet I'll be glad to offer a glass of wine

Damien Hirst: Treasures from the Wreck of the Unbelievable , by daniel3886 on Jan 4, 2018 23:44:50 GMT 1, I watched it last night definitely worth checking out. I found quite a few parallels (probably deliberately) between the narrative of the story and Hirstโs own career/life/collecting.
