So once that LED for $5K sells on eBay, the only other options on that site are $10K or best offer (which is my auction), $11,250 or best offer and $12,000 or best offer. I paid $6K for my print plus framing costs. If I sell at my full asking price, I would pretty much break even, or even make a loss, when taking fees and shipping costs into consideration. Again, I’m not too concerned about what the current lowest available price is. I’m not going to “price match” like a chain store. I don’t play that game. If you like the framed print, make me an offer.

Also, I stated in my very first post that if someone has an issue with my price, to make an offer or to move along. I really don’t want to expel energy arguing with people. It’s exhausting. If you like this, please make me an offer and we will work something out. This is supposed to be fun.

I do like it! Thats the problem. I nearly bought the one that sold for 4200. I am watching the one at 5k and considering making an offer.

I'm all about fun,but not when someone asks significantly higher prices than other pieces available.

The reason to price match? People don't want to spend more when they can get exactly the same item for less.

Finally,when did dialogue and cordial debate become an argument? Perhaps I am alone in this line of thinking but selling on a public forum allows for public opinion and discourse. If that is something you care to avoid then perhaps other selling avenues may be more attractive to you.

I've had to take losses on pieces as well, it sucks. In my opinion this print will become more valuable over time. If its an option,may be a better long term investment for you.

Oh, perfect. So then instead of going on a long rant, perhaps just make me an offer since I’m open to offers? I’m just tired of seeing every sales thread on here getting derailed for one reason or another. It’s always people bickering over asking prices, even when it clearly states “or best offer.” Just because someone has listed their print for less does not mean that I have to, nor does it mean that that is the market price of the print. The comparison to stocks is what cheapens this hobby.

I bought and framed this and enjoyed it for a year because I wanted to look at it. Many others who bought this flipped it. I was one of the very first to actually display this after paying a reseller. Why should I list for less when one (unframed copy) also recently sold for $6K? You don’t have skin in this game (edit: on second thoughts, you actually do, since you are trying to acquire one), so please let me price my item as I see fit. If it does not sell, I’m happy to keep it or potentially change my asking price. Given that you are in the market for this print, just because you do not wish to pay my asking price, does not mean that others will not try to work something out with me.

I don’t mind taking losses; I’ll make money on some sales and lose money on others. It doesn’t bother me. I primarily collect original art. Either way, in this case I will barely break even, assuming someone pays my full asking price.

No, my sole reasoning is not that a recent sale went for $6K hence my asking price is $6,750 or best offer for my framed copy. I am also taking historical sales, current asking prices as well as what I paid for this into account (as mentioned in my very first post). No one is asking you to “spend more.” If you want to spend $X, make that offer or buy it if it meets your budget. Thanks for your offer, but I’ll hold out for a higher offer. Also, I would prefer to sell it framed, as it would take some time for me to take it to the framer and get it unframed, and I would have no use for an empty frame.

Seller posted a work of sale for a price he wants. If you want one and have seen it cheaper then buy it cheaper and leave his thread alone.

It's pretty simple mate - he wants $6k for it. That's it. He owns it and won't part with it for less; it doesn't matter what others are priced at. All a potential buyer needs to do is message him and, say the ebay guy, and see the best price they can do. Job done.

He's done everything right with a sales thread - it's detailed, has price (open to offers), location, he names the framer, and includes actual photos. Can't ask for more.

People can of course charge what ever price they like, but on a forum like this people usually know a thing or two about value. If priced higher than marked value, expect to get told that. If not, sell elsewhere!!

“My cost”?!?! OP bought this piece on the high from a flipper who got the earnings on this. He laughed all the way to the bank I reckon.

The thing that annoys me is:
“I wouldn’t sell xxx item for lower than my cost. I bought it on the secondary marked with a huge premium and I want that money back”.
SORRY guys, that’s not how it works!
If it was bought on the primary market, sure that’s another issue.

I can’t tell the broker that is selling my house in London (where prices has declined) that I ain’t sellin unless I get my original invest back. Then the broker would probably tell me to get a reality check and lower my asking. That is how investments work. Art, houses, cars etc.

Last and not least;
When are people going to understand that frame does not add value to a print??

The market is made when the buyer and seller agree to a price. Yes, some sellers are desperate and will work with you. Some will tell you to take your business somewhere else. The seller obviously is not desperate for money. While you are making good points, you are also mucking up someone's sales thread.

That's absolutely true. He must be in a rush to sell. Im not so if I can make extra money here fee free then why not right?
