Art buying vs Every day buying, by Majestic on Apr 10, 2017 10:54:48 GMT 1, I've realised recently that when buying art I seem to lose my 'oh that's too expensive' filter. I'm happy to throw thousands at a piece of art without much thought to it, yet if I'm in tesco I'm scrutinising every single penny. Which is hilarious really.
I think I'm basically a complete tight arse with everything except art. Which got me thinking...is this a typical phenomena with you guys too?
The wife doesn't get it. Someone back me up!

Peas in a pod. I told my missus off for buying some salmon for about ยฃ4.00, 30 minutes after spending thousands on art.... I justify it as moving money into a happy investment place for the kids (ps I was right about the salmon. Bought on a whim because our eldest wanted it and went straight from fridge to bin!

Art buying vs Every day buying, by Flashback on Apr 10, 2017 12:23:42 GMT 1, I have that filter on everything, I am a cheapskate ! In fact, there are plenty stuff I didn't bought because I found it too expensive (anything above 100 USD is subconsciously categorised at expensive)... Need to think about it, it can take ages This said, watching prices of stuff is a good thing My wife never watch prices at shop. I live far so some goods (imported goods) are utterly expensive ! But she is right, at the end of the day, it is all about enjoyment and fun and pleasure. My old cheap keyboard is broken (a G key is fucked up); she has been telling me for months to buy a new one abroad and import it... What, spending 2000 USD ?? I am shivering !! And the family (kids and wife) often call me Mr. Krabs, I even have a Mr Krabs lego-bracelet 68.media.tumblr.com/aab467434e6fdddb3a0f0552f9dc0d42/tumblr_nq21d1RfSe1sug9wjo1_400.gif One of my arrow keys broke off and Dell wanted ยฃ56 for a replacement keyboard for my Alienware laptop as they don't warranty keys. Free install as I had a service appointment already made for another issue covered by warranty.
I went on ebay and bought a key for ยฃ3 posted and got the technician to fit it for free!

Art buying vs Every day buying, by iamzero on Apr 10, 2017 13:19:28 GMT 1, I think I buy pieces and don't think about the price because in the past I've hesitated and lost out meaning if I then really want that piece I'll end up paying more in the long run.

Very true - lost count of the amount of times i've dilly-dallied over a print and lost out. only to spend way more at a later date.
