Shop In Spitalfields Market, by longers1 on Feb 6, 2007 15:50:59 GMT 1, Apologies if this has been talked about before but was just wondering what the deal is with the shop on the corner of the market that just sells pictures of Banksy Graffiti (plus a couple of other bits).....
I gather cos it is street art, this is legal but just wondering if Banksy has anything to do with it....they must make a fair wad of cash.....

Please Note: Banksy is NOT on MySpace and has nothing to do with that shop selling photos of his work in Spitalfields.

Shop In Spitalfields Market, by rickyc on Feb 6, 2007 16:58:42 GMT 1, I disagree
OK, I agree that they charge a fair bit for what it is, but the photos aren't just of the grafitti, but usually incorporate the surroundings as well.
Also, when I couldn't afford an original Banksy print or canvas (and definately can't now), I was happy to pay to get 'happy choppers' and 'tourist information' on my wall.
Just my opinion, but I really like the idea which in really no different than someone selling photos on ebay, its just that you pay more because they come on canvas/board, and they have a bricks & mortar setup.
The following in the website, which doesn't include very much compared to what is in store: www.spitalfieldsartmarket.co.uk/

Shop In Spitalfields Market, by ®at on Feb 6, 2007 20:16:59 GMT 1, It must be great making money off other peoples talent. NOT!!!!!! A friend of mine said that it was like going to the Louvre and taking a picture of the Mona Lisa and making a canvas out of that. Pointless rip off merchants who make a great deal of money out of Banksy (IMO)
I find it amusing that on the one hand a lot of people people moan about people reselling prints on for profit, yet don't give a stuff about someone selling s**tloads of photos of pieces. Someone on this forum does as well don't they?- last time I checked they were shifting a fair volume of them on ebay....
I await the -ve respect with anticipation.....

Shop In Spitalfields Market, by Run Pig Run on Feb 6, 2007 20:48:35 GMT 1, I'm not sure you can compare someone selling photos to someone who buys up LIMITED art prints so others have to pay two grand for a signed print instead of £400. If people want to spend a couple of quid on a photo i've no problem with it. nanight.

It seem they are just hoping on the bandwagon by printing photos direct on canvas, We didnt go in but it was busy. I bet they are also selling on the bay

Shop In Spitalfields Market, by jocle140 on Sept 21, 2007 16:03:27 GMT 1, i dont get it. Whats wrong with people selling prints of photos on ebay? Surely it simply means that people who cant afford proper Banksy prints can get photos of his artwork in their homes? Artwork is so overpriced its ridiculous and Banksy makes a friggin mint anyway, so its not like hes losing out. If anything its advertising his work and making him more successful. I found a wicked site that sells prints cheap: www.art4chimps.com

Shop In Spitalfields Market, by shogun on Oct 10, 2007 10:31:22 GMT 1, Why buy a photo on graf - why not dig the old camera out and take some snaps yourself. I can't see these sellers being professional photographers. Besides you'd get alot more satisfaction if you took the snap yourself...
Actually - If anyones out and about taking snaps (not those that sell 'em) why not offer them around to other members in a non compressed format - so then members could choose to develop them if they wished.
