The 50 Lps the most important for Kurt Cobain , by Lroy on May 25, 2017 7:44:14 GMT 1, I find most of these bands more enjoyable to listen to than Nirvana i have discovered Nirvana later than others ( because I liked then psycho Billy bands , Gun Club, first rap bands too etc etc ) . It was for me, rick for teens. Even Cobain complained - he died a lot of money with anyway ) about the worldwide success of Teen Spirit. The band of one song ? No, I have listened Nirvana later after Cobain dies, and .. it was a great great band too , with songs as Rape me, with the acoustic record, and other " dirty saturated balades " etc ... It was not only the band of one song and, teens loved this band , incredible fans ! We called that the grunge lol ( punk made that before but a lot of bands make that before as crazy UK rock roll bands per example too ) ...

I prefer early 90's US punk like Bad Religion, Pennywise, Sublime over grunge of the same era. And I like early rap too : )

The 50 Lps the most important for Kurt Cobain , by mutatis on May 25, 2017 10:13:03 GMT 1, 36 i don't know it ... must listen .. I think the reference was to the irony of the name "Flipper".
Anyway, the album was Flipper's first I think and is very "raw". I've seen other lists by Cobain/Nirvana and Raw Power is always at the top (like a cliched template for "punk" bands). The inspiration on Nirvana is plain to see particularly in the Pixies and Stooges. MDC, Wipers, Black Flag and Scratch Acid but no Dead Kennedys in the list. Good to see two Butthole's records in there.
I was never too phased by Nirvana. I recall seeing them in 89 on a bill with Mudhoney, Soundgarden and Tad and they were the opening band. I liked Tad and Mudhoney (Touch Me I'm Sick) and whilst the most proficient band were Soundgarden, they sounded like a bad Black Sabbath and Nirvana simply sounded bad.
A couple of years later the single Smells Like Teen Spirit came out and I bought it. It was everywhere and I was surprised it was the same band. When the album came out I didn't like it enough to buy it (in the days when you made conscious decisions to purchase music as opposed to merely access it). I always thought Nirvana was a record company construct to rid the dominance of MC Hammer (and more virulent strains of rap), Garth Brooks and Billy Ray Cyrus from the hearts and minds and charts in the US, because Geffen's marketing machine kicked in and the rest is history.
Oh yes, Tad didn't really get anywhere I think and Mudhoney might still be trying to make it ....
Forced to choose one Nirvana song it would be Heart-Shaped Box
