Canvases and UV Protection, by NYart on May 26, 2017 21:29:50 GMT 1, Are canvases as important as prints to protect from UV ? I personally don't frame mine and it seems as many of us here don't either which got me wondering.

Canvases and UV Protection, by Deleted on May 26, 2017 23:21:36 GMT 1, Canvases, watercolors etc are usually painted as opposed to prints whose ink can fade. Sometimes quite fast as in the case of Sir William Russel Flint ltd editions under UV light.
It all depends on which type of oil paint or acrylic etc the artist painted with. Some color pigments are not as lightfast as other colors. Some reds are known to fade depending on he pigment and also the better quality longer lasting pigments and paints are more expensive than the standard or cheaper brands. That includes acrylics.
Some artists paint with household wall paints from the DIY shop too.
Usually you don't need UV protection on paintings on canvas or wood etc.
