New Banksy - UK Election Souvenir Special, by mutatis on Jun 6, 2017 22:19:07 GMT 1, I feel sorry for him. I think it was a genuine idea but ill thought out like a 1970's prog triple concept album. He should burn the prints with an effigy of May on top a la Jimmy Cauty. Ahhh yeah Jimmy could think up something amazing! Wish he did more. I think James Cauty working together with Banksy, wow! Now that could be interesting. I like Jimmy and his work and think he has been pretty busy of late going up and down the country with his ADP project post Dismaland. I am genuinely intrigued to know in what way you think the combination of Cauty and Banksy could be interesting and what you see them doing together. Please expand. Thanks.

New Banksy - UK Election Souvenir Special, by artislove on Jun 7, 2017 1:07:28 GMT 1, Thanks anyway Banksy, but I guess it's for the best. Let's all hope that people get out there in great numbers and vote for Jeremy and the Labour Party. The phrase Reaping what you Sow comes to mind at the present time.

My view is that the print was a bribe for people to not vote Conservative. Which is undemocratic.
By all means I am happy for your view on this print offer.
If I hit a nerve it's not my fault but I noticed some people only support democracy when it suits their agenda.

New Banksy - UK Election Souvenir Special, by brazzy on Jun 7, 2017 16:06:07 GMT 1, was he trying to point out how corrupt your "democracy" is by doing something blatantly corrupt?
Maybe he's human and had what he thought was another clever idea that didn't quite pan out?
Two failed print drops in a row? this could def send his career in a tailspin. You all should probably sell me your banksy prints for original face value, now. Before they're worthless.

Such a cutting edge and well thought through argument as usual @elviswarhol
You can do better than that can't you ? How about exploring the topic of whether / how votes are bought, or electoral promises broken. Or maybe some thoughts on how artists can / should influence their world or not. Or maybe even a philosophical debate about whether ends justify means..:
But honestly this "I am so disappointed Banksy bribed people" is really weak, tiring and simplistic (not to mention making this into an actual political discussion which it is not)

New Banksy - UK Election Souvenir Special, by Hubble Bubble on Jun 7, 2017 17:37:19 GMT 1, This is developed into a bitter, bitter thread and quite depresses me.
I do so loathe election times and the spite, bile and vitriol that seems to flow towards those with views different to those that shout loudest.
I've lived through three day weeks, wildcat strikes and unions holding the country to ransom under labour, entire communities torn apart by Thatcher, continued neglect of the NHS and our education system by both main parties, Tory and Labour governments taking us into dubious wars and, if there's one thing I'm sure of, hating and mocking those that disagree with us will get us nowhere.
We are all different. In different circumstances. We should respect those that don't think like us and celebrate that this democracy produces swings and roundabouts of government.
Sometimes, I feel so much negativity on here it grieves me.

i dont understand the no democracy thing, i think it was ok for him to have done what he did. But i think i might be slightly biased. i.e i wouldn't be happy if some tory artist did the same thing :-)

I don't think the end does justify the means.
Artists are free to make political art and to try to influence people through their art.
I don't agree that the media mainstream press only supports the right. Looking back on events and including US elections some artists promoting a liberal or left leaning agenda got a lot of coverage by the mainstream media. Sheperd Fairey, Ai Weiwei, Banksy, Anish Kapoor, Richard Prince and others.
Elections should be democratic and people free to vote for whoever they want to and not bribed coersed or bullied into voting a certain way. Block voting should be illegal where community leaders tell locals who to vote for etc.
Banksy offering the ltd edition for free. No one assumed it was a worthless print, considering the prices anything by Banksy fetches these days. Banksy is free to do what he wants, be as provocative as he wants and making political style art on walls. For people who would have voted Tory but decide to change their vote to get a ltd edition print. There is a saying that everyone has a price. It seems some people value themselves very low.

It could be worse. You could live in the US like me and Trump could be your representation to the world. Now THAT'S depressing.
