July 2019 - Banksy price check , by loartve on Jun 9, 2017 5:34:20 GMT 1, Prices are very high at this time and difficult to justify relative to blue chip artists, driven largely by huge demand. He's the artist of our generation. I don't see prices going up at anything like the rate they have done in the past (they can't, although to be open I said the same thing this time last year!). They are a very good long investment and although I can see a correction (or at the very least prices stabilising) at some point I do think that as long as he doesn't start selling new editions again, prices in the long term will be higher than where they are now

Going to check back on this thread later. "Too many prints" ? Guy hasn't dropped a public print since 2010. Compare that to any living artist, not to mention he's probably got less than 5% of what Warhol produced and probably less than half the percentage of Picasso's over 50k pieces in circulation. Meanwhile he's more active than ever and taking on one monumental project after another, charging the public basically nothing and still remaining anonymous with zero museum or big institution representation. The blue chip buyers have finally started to get active his market and when those gates finally open wide, I think you will see a whole different level of pricing. I can't even imagine his posthumous market.

July 2019 - Banksy price check , by Deleted on Jun 9, 2017 9:57:37 GMT 1, Sorry where exactly are all these prints? because i have clients waiting i assure you! i always use the history of Banksy prints (signed) during Bristol show there were easily a few hundred prints on the market. During NYC better out than in there were ballpark around maybe 100 prints available on the market. During Dismaland and after this went down to around 40-50.... Today i would say in the region of 30....taking into account galleries advertsing prints they dont have or double selling with other galleries..(these figures are UK market only) with most of the most sought after prints now no longer available anywhere...

July 2019 - Banksy price check , by Daniel Silk on Jun 9, 2017 11:08:40 GMT 1, The number of Banksy prints available has dried up! So I think that gives two scenarios - 1. Demand remains high so the values climb higher and higher. 2. People are unable to buy anything Banksy so they switch to other artists, meaning Banksy prices stabilise and maybe even fall, as other Artists grow in popularity. I think we have had a mixture of the two for the last few years, but I think it might go more towards option two as time goes on. Unless Banksy releases a print.

July 2019 - Banksy price check , by Laugh Now 10 on Jun 9, 2017 11:29:49 GMT 1, All the info and evidence in regard to B print pricing can be found within this forum's old threads. Members have always complained that prices were too high even when signed B prints and iconic unsigned B prints could be purchased for less than £5K (and less than that). There are definitely "not too many" B prints as the inventory for same hasn't really changed in approximately a decade. There are even less in "mint" condition. Why do members think Banksy vinyls are selling for £200+? This is a direct result of the fact that there are NOT too many print buying options for those who want one of his images on their wall. End of story.

One would have thought that from when the prints were first released, as prices increased that there would have been a lot on the market asking the whatever the high price would be at the time.
Everyone assumes when the prints and colorways were released that they all sold out completely.
For all we know they could have held back and put in storage a lot of prints.
Who knows, there could be a lock up in Wandsworth with hundreds of Banksy prints.

Who knows, there could be a lock up in Wandsworth with hundreds of Banksy prints. Many years ago this could have been said but PC is pretty much bone dry now and that's no guess or assumption. For the most part they solely deal in secondary pieces from their circle of clients now. IMO Banksy is on the edge, actually has already started to cross over, an extremely important transition of drawing significant interest from "blue chip" major buyers and collectors. Sad to say for these collectors it's mostly to do with the price point being high enough for them to consider it significant enough to spark their interest since there is just no inventory for any major players to push it to them, not to mention zero cooperation from Mr B. Form the ones I have seen entering now they also seem to like the fact is says quite a bit for them just to own one. Mostly originals form what I have seen on this level for obvious reasons and I personally know of a top tier collector that now has a massive iconic B OG hanging next to a equally large Richter. That sight alone was quite powerful and I see this trend continuing as well as prices. As I have said before, it's pure math with such a microscopic supply that is constantly shrinking and demand that is exponentially growing. The only reason B prices are not at Koons levels is his legendary restraint and contempt for "the system". Keep in mind he is doing all of this with zero major gallery or institutional backing and zero museum support. The museum support alone is proof positive they are collectively rebelling against an artist who is arguably on of the most significant of our time, yet they will still allocate a football sized room to a huge ball of string for your intellectual pleasure . Soon this will change as well. How long can the Tate have Banksy non existent from their museums yet have five Banksy books in the front row of all their shops. All that aside, we are witness to a truly historic phenomenon in art history unfolding...And what a show it is!

I believe this is happening now...this is why i keep saying that prices need to stabilise...everytime there is a print on this forum , the hype kills the thread with overexagerated price inputs....yes I'm a Gallery, however i try to stay below the normal retail Gallery pricing ...i try to be realistic however its almost impossible, as soon as we sell a print it costs us more to buy the same print back so inevitably we must keep up with the craziness...i keep saying it will end in disaster if private sales keep asking for ridiculous prices and this forum supports or increases the pricing..after all its the private market that supports the retail market..
Times are a changing folks whether you like it or not...there is a changing of the guard already... Some may say this is professional suicide , i would rather say my peace and try to prevent a slide than sit and say nothing at all...and hope..
the Banksy market has Flatlined...is it seasonal? time will tell.....

July 2019 - Banksy price check , by Global Art Traders on Jun 17, 2017 12:06:11 GMT 1, It is absolutely the case of Banksy prints being overpriced for many, meaning they are turning to other artists. That being said, I don't think the Banksy prices will fall and rise like they have done so in the past, rather they will find a level and stay around that - which i think is happening now. A bit like Warhol prints have reached a price level and don't shift much either way, meaning dealers etc find it hard to buy at a price point in which they can turn a reasonable profit.
Of course, those with Banksy's want as much as possible for their investment, however I think most people are realizing the current value of most prints so sellers are not getting the inflated prices they are asking anyway.
There has been many a rise and fall of 'hyped up' artists on this forum and although I believe the 'current favourites like Invader and Harland Miller will continue to do well, i think they are 'risky' investments at the current prices. Invader's prices has grown too quickly based on hype and despiration to get 'in' and i believe are not sustainable.
I believe HM is also too expensive, prices have got 'high' too quickly. It all seems to have gone mad since 'the case against' - I have a feeling there might be some fire sales in the months / year to come. New releases are now also going to be a lot more expensive, based on hype, and i think there will be many 'squeaky bum' moments when deciding whether to buy a new release as the price will be high. Good luck to all who indulge though, it's a risky market, but an exciting one. For all who have the money to buy for the love of it, irrespective of cost, i believe Harland Miller is a good choice, aesthetically.

July 2019 - Banksy price check , by touchdowntodd on Jun 17, 2017 12:19:15 GMT 1, Slightly high now. . But long term, they're cheap
I'm still looking for my first unsigned. Cash ready, even in this market .. and income to cost wise, I have no business trying to buy. But a few years from now, it won't even be possible for people like myself
Sucks really for fans

July 2019 - Banksy price check , by Eton Groover on Jun 17, 2017 13:33:07 GMT 1, I wouldn't dream of buying one at today's prices. As "art" you can get a lot more for a lot less money. An awful lot of hype and rushing to get on the ladder which will eventually run out of steam. There are so few Banksy prints on the market that it doesn't take a lot of buyers to keep prices artificially inflated. i honestly think this market is totally false and there are people out there who hoovered up prints when they were a few grand and are now drip feeding them into the market and making a lot of money. There are an awful lot of financially astute individuals out there who operate in highly regulated markets. Imagine what they could do when allowed to run free in a highly unregulated market such as art! Good luck to them!

July 2019 - Banksy price check , by gravity1 on Jun 17, 2017 17:27:05 GMT 1, It's simple supply vs demand and no one has made any case for either changing. When one says prices are "sliding" or will "level off", there must be some logic to follow why demand will drop or supply increased enough to affect pricing and or evidence that prices are reversing at all. Price increases alone will not curb demand and may actually accelerate it as higher level collectors take notice and participate and I don't see people loosing interest any time soon with Mr B or his ongoing global campaign. And those who think posts and private sales on this forum affect the global market are just unrealistic and delusional. There are a handful of legitimate buyers here at best, compared to thousands world wide and growing. Of course prices dropping are far from impossible but not for the reasons, or lack there of, given here.
