Modern Media = Blinckered Opinions, by Daniel Silk on Jun 11, 2017 14:13:32 GMT 1, In the past people had the choice of maybe 4 TV Channels, a few radio stations, and no internet, meaning the media they were exposed to was actually pretty varied as it was designed to try and please and appeal to everyone. Now, with hundreds of TV Channels, Music Streaming, and the Internet, all designed to show people what they want, so are people's opinions more blinckered than before? Yes we have much more choice, but it's moving towards just giving us media based on what we already like rather than opening our minds to different opinions. An example of that is on here where people don't like seeing or reading about artists they don't like or opinions they don't agree with. So, it's modern media making people less tolerant?

Modern Media = Blinckered Opinions, by Daniel Silk on Jun 11, 2017 14:18:41 GMT 1, Such as on Facebook, Twitter, and all kinds of media, people select what to follow, ending up with a limited viewpoint leading to extreme opinions and possible conflicts in all types of things, Music, Art, Politics, Religion.

Modern Media = Blinckered Opinions, by Deleted on Jun 11, 2017 15:23:04 GMT 1, I would say this is fairly accurate and a scary notion.
I also throw into the discussion Oxfords 2016 "word of the Year"
"Post-truth". Yes. We live in a time where there is a need for this word and that in itself is terrifying. The, facts don't make me feel good or support my beliefs so I'm going to wish them away era I guess.
The dictionary defines โpost-truthโ as โrelating to or denoting circumstances in which objective facts are less influential in shaping public opinion than appeals to emotion and personal belief.โ
In this case, the โpost-โ prefix doesn't mean โafterโ so much as it implies an atmosphere in which a notion is irrelevant โ but then again, who says you have to take our word for it anymore?
So in a reality where we now find it acceptable to have opinions on FACTS society is now allowed the freedom to reject cause and effect based facts, (climate change, etc,,) As well by simply not agreeing with them.
The media as well as politicians are of course well aware of the opportunity and audience that this provides. It was in the late 70's that news media began to prioritize entertainment rather than objectivity and that has grown to what we see today, self selectable news. And to your original point people can now self select the world that they believe to be true around them as there will always be enough media coverage to stoke the flames of crazy.
I would also suggest enjoying Steven Colberts bit on "truthiness" in 2006
