These days decent auctions are setting the price points that push the market forward. Addmittedly an auction is a roll of the dice as it were but if you get on the right side of the roll then the rewards are enormous, and recently the prices at multiple auctions have proven this point. I was talking from a sellers point of view and how much they receive after fees, now and then you get lucky like with SS recently but mostly the seller receives below what they can achieve, roughly 9/10 times. The the SS which achieved overall inc fees north of 30k the seller got closer to 20k which isnt that much more than they could have got and that was an unbelievable price someone ended up paying for it. Its that lottery fingers crossed it might be me, more likely it wont for the seller.
For example if a print sells for 50K does that mean that is real value and if the same print fails to sell does it mean the real value is 0 ?

What about bought in chandelier bid stuff. Is that just to pretend the item reached the set reserve thus keeping the confidence factor going regarding values? |

Some auctions buy in art and some auctions lend the money to dealers to bid on the art and buy it too.

Look at it like this. Every lot has a set reserve, the auctioneer starts the lot at say one or two bids below the reserve, they are effectively bidding on behalf of the owner up to the level of their set reserve from there it's over to the open market.
Bear in mind this often isn't necessary, if there are absentee bids in the auctioneers book then the auctioneer is actually executing these bids left by people who are not in attendance in the sale -something I have noticed happens more and more these days, mainly absentee bids, telephone and internet, people increasingly don't need to attend sales now they are streamed live on the net.

Got to agree this looks very shady and puts auction houses in a very poor light.

There is no law saying if someone paints on your property without permission that you have to leave whatever is painted on your property and cannot remove it or paint over it.
If for example you left your car in the street and Banksy stencilled a girl with a balloon or whetver on the car door. Would you decide to leave the car where it is because thats where Banksy wanted to paint it, regardless if the car accumulated parking tickets and was going to be towed away which would mean you having to create a petition and support for the car to be left where it is.
Or would you remove the door and replace with with another door if the stencil was done on your car door? Then display the car door inside or find a buyer for the car door?

The other auction houses also sold street works. They don't anymore because they cannot get a COA and therefore no insurance for the price paid. If those street pieces had COA the other auction houses would continue to sell them.
I don't agree with buying or selling stolen street pieces. But I cannot deny the reach and depth of buyers Juliens has. And you can negotiate the sellers fee.
Juliens auction house is a group a good people. Honest and fair.
Besides I first attempted to sell through other sources but wouldn't get a decent offer from anyone.
Why would I sell a print to someone for $13,000 when I can net 22,500 at auction? After all it sucks to sell the banksys. But when life throws you a curve ball and you need to pony up some dough. You have to forge market that will pay you the best.
In my situation I have much needed spinal surgery to deal with and pay for.... Otherwise I would not have sold a single print through them. I have sold 3 and about to sell the copper out of necessity, as well.
I would not normally go to an auction to get top dollar. But juliens brings in the top dollar. So naturally I need to go there. And I'm glad I did. Good people there as I said before. A family owned business in fact.
I have consistently received market and above for the banksy prints.
And when you search google and try to deal with the people, they want high prices to sell and VERY LOW prices when they buy.
Castle gallery is the only spot I know that has decent prices.

I have sold 3 and about to sell the copper out of necessity, as well. I would not normally go to an auction to get top dollar. But juliens brings in the top dollar. So naturally I need to go there. And I'm glad I did. Good people there as I said before. A family owned business in fact. I have consistently received market and above for the banksy prints. And when you search google and try to deal with the people, they want high prices to sell and VERY LOW prices when they buy. Castle gallery is the only spot I know that has decent prices.

They could always try typing banksy print etc into google, not that hard to find If i was buying or selling through auction id be using one that sells authenticated for sale banksys rather than one that supports the sale of works removed from the streets, why did you choose juliens over say sothebys/christies etc? The other auction houses also sold street works. They don't anymore because they cannot get a COA and therefore no insurance for the price paid. If those street pieces had COA the other auction houses would continue to sell them. I don't agree with buying or selling stolen street pieces. But I cannot deny the reach and depth of buyers Juliens has. And you can negotiate the sellers fee. Juliens auction house is a group a good people. Honest and fair. Besides I first attempted to sell through other sources but wouldn't get a decent offer from anyone. Why would I sell a print to someone for $13,000 when I can net 22,500 at auction? After all it sucks to sell the banksys. But when life throws you a curve ball and you need to pony up some dough. You have to forge market that will pay you the best. In my situation I have much needed spinal surgery to deal with and pay for.... Otherwise I would not have sold a single print through them. Where does one form of capitalism become more moral than another form? ย There is no law saying if someone paints on your property without permission that you have to leave whatever is painted on your property and cannot remove it or paint over it. If for example you left your car in the street and Banksy stencilled a girl with a balloon or whetver on the car door. Would you decide to leave the car where it is because thats where Banksy wanted to paint it, regardless if the car accumulated parking tickets and was going to be towed away which would mean you having to create a petition and support for the car to be left where it is. Or would you remove the door and replace with with another door if the stencil was done on your car door? Then display the car door insideย or find a buyer for the car door?

I appreciate the sentiment and the support. Thank you. Almost out of the woods. Surgery needed and scheduled. The copper goes to the neurosurgeon. Lol. He's like 20,000 for the surgery and then there will be about 15,000 in hospital.
Screwed up thing is that I do not have health insurance that will cover this. The new insurance laws in America do not cover a pre existing condition unless I enrolled in insurance during a specific period of time.
Just one of the many screw ups in this country.
