Forum Auctions โข Banksy Marketplace ๐ฌ๐ง, by Pattycakes on Nov 28, 2018 22:55:12 GMT 1, hammer price alone mibbe but hammer plus AR and premium seems more than market but you dont see many LRโs for sale so who knows. Sotherbys sold one stuck to a backboard for 15k hammer last week. Got one for sale but both these auctions have just jumped the cost nicely for me Sotheby's price included premium, the hammer there was ยฃ8,500 I believe. I think Forum one made more because it was an AP surely?

Forum Auctions โข Banksy Marketplace ๐ฌ๐ง, by jay4077 on Nov 29, 2018 7:51:06 GMT 1, I think investors are more careful now, because Banksy isn't a guaranteed cash cow any longer. Maybe investors are moving towards more popular prints like "Girl With the Red Balloon" and "Love Is In the Air" while lesser attractive prints like the LA Set will be a market for end users / collectors.
To me Banksy prices are moving in different directions, some still climbing and some seems to have peaked.

Forum Auctions โข Banksy Marketplace ๐ฌ๐ง, by Graham H on Nov 29, 2018 13:50:36 GMT 1, Time will tell, just like all the many times in the past when his market was supposed to crash..
Its obvious it has always been about the image and the history of it that has dictated prices of individual prints, there are the ones that are top tier ( gwrb, Liita, Kate etc ), and those that arent so ' classic', but even so, they are still a Banksy, and people who cant afford the top ones, would rather buy lower ones than not at all.. and that then trickles down to unsigned..so there is something for most price levels. Same can be said for many other artists, Warhol, Haring etc..
It was an inevitability once prints got to the level they were at, that originals would then take a hike.. as had been the recent case ( even before the GWRB stunt )
Then again, as they say, what goes up must come down..

Forum Auctions โข Banksy Marketplace ๐ฌ๐ง, by campfire headphase on Nov 29, 2018 13:59:50 GMT 1, Some excellent results on GWRB, while others not as robust, likely due to condition. Albeit a few went a tad below recent private sale and auction levels.
Poor results are also due to it being a forum auction. The auction house has no power in the auction theater. Chiswick, Forum... all going to gets**t results. Banksy prints need to go to Christieโs and Sothebyโs. The bidders in those houses are much more โelevatedโ and aggressive with their bidding.

You are not actually correct in that statement. Sometimes that's true, but actually looking at all results they aren't in the most part the best option. Sure they get decent hits here and there, but, and here is the but, you have to have a low starting estimate and reserve so it's a huge roll of the dice. More often than not actually prices are lower than at other houses.
I'm sure I'll get some s**t for this comment, but as a consignor to multiple houses, and with thus far one exception I've done better selling Banksy elsewhere than at either Christie's or Sotheby's (and my vendor rate at both is virtually nil)

I would agree this applies as long as we are talking about run of the mill B prints.
I have also trusted tier 2 auction houses with mine and had much better results (and seller conditions) than what big houses have got for the same prints.
I find the big houses mostly not interested in lower end B prints unless they have too few pieces and need to print the catalogue, or if you are consigning them as a bundle with higher end / rarer prints

Forum Auctions โข Banksy Marketplace ๐ฌ๐ง, by galaxy01 on Nov 29, 2018 18:41:12 GMT 1, Chiswick and Forum will start it where you would be happy with that result - so sometimes they get no sale because of that. Sotherbys price low to get more interest - how well that truely works I dont know as the buyers ultimately know its a low price if they end up bidding way more, but sure it brings in some less keen buyers to have a shot at it - they are not the ones paying 10k over the estimate though. But the bigger houses do seem to have much feistier bidders with bigger pockets which helps.
This Forum auction actually did better than their last awful one, and that GWRB is well up in the highest sales for one considering the 30% buyer fee.
The GWRB and Love Rat I was working with Sotherbys wanted to list at 30k and 7k. Chiswick were happy to list it at 35k and 11k so that at the very least the seller I was working with would be safe in getting the bare minimum they were after - which they much preferred, and would still have got without the risk of getting a lower sale should the Sotherbys buyers be low on cash that day.
Guess it is just preference over low risk, and (possibly) missing the top-end buyers vs higher risk of a low sale but having the extra exposure.. both work

Forum Auctions โข Banksy Marketplace ๐ฌ๐ง, by Poster Bob on Nov 29, 2018 20:36:36 GMT 1, That's exactly why the Reaper, Toxic Mary and Donuts sold for stupid money this week. Which art consultancy do you work for?
I think investors are more careful now, because Banksy isn't a guaranteed cash cow any longer. Maybe investors are moving towards more popular prints like "Girl With the Red Balloon" and "Love Is In the Air" while lesser attractive prints like the LA Set will be a market for end users / collectors. To me Banksy prices are moving in different directions, some still climbing and some seems to have peaked.

If Banksy was one person:
Banksy would be more famous as a criminal than an artist. He has no police record and has never been caught anywhere in the world (all while traveling the world and knowing the ins and outs of legal systems around the world). Would make him a highly sought after international lawyer as well.
His signature and style has changed so many times he would be better known as the greatest forgery artist of all time.
He has mastered more styles in art that he would be known as the greatest multidisciplinary artist to ever walk the earth.
He would be considered a marketing and business genius.
He would be an incredibly highly sought after movie director/writer.
He would be a highly sought after stunt co ordinator.
He would be a highly sought after event co ordinator.
Designer, urban planner, pop up store guru etc.
Get over the whole Banksy can do everything. He's not one guy with a hoodie ands**tty artist studio. You people are insane.
Banksy is a brand-- that's it.
Before people launch into the he has help and assistants. All of the above constitutes more than dragging out a silk screen or holding a ladder. These are piece signed and created by the multiple people under one brand.
People are figuring out who is important in the brand and hence the wild and soon to be even more wild price swings between pieces.

... the fact that itโs multiple artists. ... Idiot. I'd rather not comment on this, but you and others write it so often that it for newbies may seem as this is true, when in fact most here know it isn't.

Forum Auctions โข Banksy Marketplace ๐ฌ๐ง, by mehor on Nov 30, 2018 7:14:58 GMT 1, I like what banksy does and I am not too worried about who assists or helps him. Normal procedure. Or do you think Darwin worked in the flower bed all day to do his thing?
