Forum Auctions โข Banksy Marketplace ๐ฌ๐ง, by foreman on Oct 12, 2016 19:08:48 GMT 1, Also fair to note that every seller was willing to accept 35% less than than each of these prices. "Every seller"? Have you spoke with them all?
Do you also believe if this auction was held today with 0% auction fee's the hammer price would be exactly the same?
What you have here are a group of sellers that are willing to pay the house a fee - to not have to deal with marketing, selling, paying, shipping etc the print... Then there are other sellers that are willing to take on that work themselves.

Forum Auctions โข Banksy Marketplace ๐ฌ๐ง, by lee3 on Oct 12, 2016 19:11:40 GMT 1, Always good to admit ones shortcomings as I suggested to a friend who has been looking to buy this artist that this may very well be a decent opportunity. I argued that since I'd never heard of Forum that they probably didn't have the ability to cast a wide sales net compared with the competition. Further, I argued there were too many works for sale, in an otherwise off date for sales, and therefore she might see saturation in the salesroom. I've apologized to her already.

No. I will admit that I haven't "spoken to them" personally. I am working from the assumption that if a purchase was made without a reserve price that the deal would in fact be honored.

Forum Auctions โข Banksy Marketplace ๐ฌ๐ง, by Unica on Oct 12, 2016 23:33:13 GMT 1, Buyers have benefited from the weakest pound for a long time and subsequently most of the prints will be going overseas. I definitely understand that the weak pound makes buying in Britain more appealing, but it appears the pound has declined 15% in recent months and the price of Banksy has risen roughly the same, looking at these results. So i'm not entirely convinced that these are bargains for overseas sellers, also let not forget that at least in the USA most states have at least a 6-9% sale tax that will need to paid when the prints are shipped stateside.

Lack of either signed or unsigned Happy Choppers from the inventory seems bizarre as most of the well known peices where represented.
Anyone care to hazard a guess at to why they don't come up for sale?

Today I think I may as well leave it on the wall a bit longer as it will only go up... Unsigned prints will not perpetually increase in value. I tend to agree. Yet a few years ago, whilst pondering whether or not I should purchase a Rae original (Jealous Neighbours) I pondered selling one of my unsigned prints, and was amazed that I could get nearly 2k for them. The wife talked me out of selling them, and yet 3 years later, the are worth much more.... I guess the trick is knowing when they will reach their peak.

If one assumes that banksy will never make another print for the layman, and that is extremely likely, then I don't see why the values of any banksy prints would peak any time soon.
Of course like any artist his output would be subjected to the same crashes as any other artist if the economy etc tanks though

Forum Auctions โข Banksy Marketplace ๐ฌ๐ง, by Neate Michael on Oct 13, 2016 12:18:40 GMT 1, They weren't bought to maximise income, they were bought because I liked them. But now, I must confess I would sell them if I knew their value was peaking. I hear you! The other thing is, I was lucky enough to buy an original Dale Marshall canvas two years ago. I bloody love it. It gives me far more pleasure than the prints do. If I could swap my 3 prints for an original Jose Parla canvas I would be well tempted... But what would go up most in value? My wife would only let me do that if I could tell her we wouldn't lose out (yes, she is less into Banksy than me, but she quite likes the prestige of saying to her pals: yes, that is a Banksy).

I'm trying to get my wife onside with a Micallef canvas - his more recent 'head' 'self portrait' 'chunky paint' stuff. I'd bloody love one but no guarantee of future value...
*sighs and sips coffee

I was lucky enough to be in London a few years ago and pop into Laz and seeit. The depth of the paint was amazing. I'd be very happy with one of those too.

But now, I must confess I would sell them if I knew their value was peaking. If one assumes that banksy will never make another print for the layman, and that is extremely likely, then I don't see why the values of any banksy prints would peak any time soon. Of course like any artist his output would be subjected to the same crashes as any other artist if the economy etc tanks though Look up the historical arguments against unsigned work on the forum. I do however completely agree that signed prints, especially the better images, will consistently rise in value for the forthcoming future.

Just out of curiosity there Bob, what would you consider to be his best releases?
Lets say top 5 signed in order of desirability (not necessarily price).
Not including VIP works, I would say: 1. Girl With Balloon 2. LIITA 3. NOLA 4. Laugh Now / Barcode 5. Stop and Search
If you're going by price though you would have to include Kate Moss, Choose Your Weapon etc.
My personal favourites though:
1. Stop & Search 2. Rude Copper 3. Morons 4. Victoria 5. Choose Your Weapon
I regret not pulling the trigger on a signed Vic a few months back at 15k.

Forum Auctions โข Banksy Marketplace ๐ฌ๐ง, by Ruggs on Oct 13, 2016 16:16:39 GMT 1, Interesting reading above especially posterbobs put down of unsigned prints in his words "nothing more than copies without any form of artistic involvement. Without a signature, these prints are essentially worthless". At the moment unsigned are becoming more sought-after simply because most signed prints are completely out of most peoples affordability. With GWRB signed prints now reaching close to ยฃ90k, is it any wonder why someone desperately wanting that image are turning to the unsigned version instead. And because of that it is now commanding a price tag in excess of ยฃ25k. In the short term, I agree, signed prints will keep rising in value, some more than others, but so will unsigned prints. When will it all stop? None of us know that. But while Banksy's popularity increases, so will his work.

Forum Auctions โข Banksy Marketplace ๐ฌ๐ง, by yoyosh on Oct 13, 2016 16:29:05 GMT 1, I'm trying to digest seeing a Tesco Bomb poster go for that price. They can't possibly come with PC COA, right?
