Does this mean forum auctions pocketed ยฃ21000 for a disappointing result? I can understand Sotherbys and Christieโs and Bonhams charges for exceptional results but I would be peveed at paying massive fees on results from most of Banksy sales from yesterdayโs auction I dont really think you can blame the auctioneer, many records have been set at Forum especially towards the end of last year. The market is correcting due to over supply and becoming over valued, no auctioneer can do anything about that. Forum also didn't take ยฃ21k that figure includes VAT (where payable) and ARR. The auction house would receive ยฃ15,500 on that hammer price. Edit - I do think art auctioneers fees in general are high relative to transaction fees in other industires. I'm hoping more and more challengers come in to the market and collectors start getting better value. However, this glut of sales will continue to dent the pricing until the change of ownership cycle is complete which will mean low prices for the next few months. It goes without saying there will be as many auctions as there is supply of works to sell. It is definitely a buyers market!!
