Is this a real Banksy?, by riffbear on Jun 13, 2017 13:17:04 GMT 1, Hi - I am posting this on behalf of a mate who bought this sometime ago.
Does anyone know the dimensions of this stencil in the wilderness?
We don't have this particular image on any walls in Australia and would like to at the least match it to the correct size as he hasn't got any authentication for it.
I know its a long shot for one to be around but thought I would try here.
Cheers.

Is this a real Banksy?, by Happy Shopper on Jun 13, 2017 13:41:49 GMT 1, In the letter in mentions pictures from before it was acquired... Are these of the piece in it's original outdoor location? Would be good to see... it might help authenticate it... or not!

That would definitely help.

Is this a real Banksy?, by lucyloo on Jun 13, 2017 14:05:13 GMT 1, The estimate of 15k then realised price of 2200 would make me think others weren't convinced That was also 2012 Matey! Not a ton of people down under may have realized who Banksy was at the time as well. 5 years ago is a long time ago in the Banksy World! Also just because a room full of Aussie's aren't convinced in 2012 has no bearing what so ever if it is real or not? There is a thread somewhere within maybe the last couple of months that discusses at length this particular stencil. I believe even a Mock Up was done to compare the two item's in question?? One was real and the other was not? I can't remember but again this could be the real deal?
I'd have Pest look at it!

No reserve?

Is this a real Banksy?, by Nick on Jun 13, 2017 14:42:16 GMT 1, Why would you have pest look at it. This is a) a fake, or b) an appropriated street piece. Pest control will not validate either of these so in essence you're just wasting your time, their time, and many of ours time who have legitimate cases with them waiting for an answer.
Your literal only hope is to find documentation of Banksy painting in that location or a picture of this exact piece in a banksy publication or on his website. Otherwise you're mate overpaid by about $2195.

Is this a real Banksy?, by maddoghoek100 on Jun 13, 2017 16:04:03 GMT 1, there were lots of questionable items on that invoice, 2 chihuly and 2 tiffany lamps. A lot of items people did not seem to think were on the up and up. Your buddy paid a bit more than i would for glass "in the style of" or he got a truly remarkable set of deals that day. Id love to see some pics of those. very hard to authenticate good glass pieces by picture, but if they are obvious fakes would certainly put the whole batch in question.
One presumes the better answer for him is to get a good insurance policy that will accept these appraisals and then have an incident in about 10 months.
Not to pile on, but i do find the hand written letter interesting. For me i would give zero value to the letter or photographs unless they can be matched to banksys website. BUt it does seem to create an interesting idea. In my mind a stolen street piece from any artist is worth zero, because i would not want to display a stolen street piece....but. If you are looking to run a real number on folks, one supposes cutting some banksy stencils, throwing them up in some random alleys, and taking some snaps before and after is bound to fool at least one person with more money than sense. Adding some little touches that i wont mention to give it some street patina and a goofy hand written note.
