Jasper Johns ๐บ๐ธ Painter โข Pop Art, Abstract Expressionism , by Pawel on Jun 19, 2017 20:06:20 GMT 1, It's hard to tell how limited they really are. Can the fact that the catalog was to be edition of 300 any indication? The ones that you can only buy one of per person I would imagine won't have high numbers. It seem's that now all the prints have an extra "*Limit one per customer for this item." Some of them have it twice now . Have you received any addition info?

Looked at these a few times, and decided against because of the lack of details. For all we know there could be 1000s of these knocking around or just one of each. Even at $150 this makes the possible risk vs reward equation into an easy pass for me.

I assume you haven't called the publisher? I did today. They will give you all the information you need. These prints come with top provenance and documentation. They are printing in the same studio using the same machines and the regular edition. Just smaller size and not signed. Blue chip art from one of the most valuable artists ever. 99% of people on this forum wouldn't be able to own a johns. These are a no brainer. Call the publisher

I just hoped that someone with more knowledge how such catalogs are produced to share some thoughts on it.

I could buy a Hirst tomorrow from the Tate shop for ยฃ20 odd. I don't really feel the need to call the publisher; if they wanted my money all they had to do was be more transparent on their site.

It should also be noted that these are all between 35 and 46 years old if all printed between 1971-82. So def limited in some respect at least.
I'd also like to know when they first went on sale.

I think jasper johns will survive without your 150 bucks. You might have slightly missed the point.

Jasper Johns ๐บ๐ธ Painter โข Pop Art, Abstract Expressionism , by Deleted on Jun 19, 2017 23:11:24 GMT 1, Some additional information on these direct from ULAE
These were all printed at ULAE in 1975 for what was to be the original catalog raisonne. They are all 42 years old at this point (For all you math aficionados) .ย
Jasper's involvement was that he was "aware" of and approved the project but not directly involved in the printing or the project itself. ย He was also aware the project was scrapped as it became too much of an undertaking based on the quantity and quality of the prints and the raisonne moving a different direction.
These prints were likely meant to be included along with the catalog project are are not simply pages.ย
The original goal was to print 300 of each for the catalog. ย Some got there and some were less (In the 200's) as the project was scrapped. ย Ultimately there are 200-400 of each print but this is undocumented. They were in boxes at ULAE and they decided to offer them to the public. ย
They are not meant in any way to be Jasper Johns original prints per ULAE. ย Obviously they are not signed or numbered nor are they embossed with the printers stamp.ย
They kind of are what they are.... In my opinion Very cool 42 year old authentic Jasper Johns limited reproductions of the highest possible quality with an equally cool backstory. ย
Buy them because you love them and not because you think you are going to cash in on them. ย ย
Also, the logo in not embossed in the image but actually printed in the image.ย

Other thing is there are "new", 40 year old prints. It's quite awesome.

Obviously they are not signed or numbered nor are they embossed with the printers stamp. They kind of are what they are.... In my opinion Very cool 42 year old authentic Jasper Johns limited reproductions of the highest possible quality with an equally cool backstory. Buy them because you love them and not because you think you are going to cash in on them. Also, the logo in not embossed in the image but actually printed in the image. Thanks for the info. However, the elephant in the room is, If there were only to be 300 catalogs why would any of these prints be an edition of 400? As you said it is undocumented but it makes no sense to me to make 400 prints. I think the edition has to be lower than 400. Too bad, I guess we'll never know for sure. Still, I'm sure I'll enjoy the ones I picked up.
Some additional information on these direct from ULAE These were all printed at ULAE in 1975 for what was to be the original catalog raisonne. They are all 42 years old at this point (For all you math aficionados) . Jasper's involvement was that he was "aware" of and approved the project but not directly involved in the printing or the project itself. He was also aware the project was scrapped as it became too much of an undertaking based on the quantity and quality of the prints and the raisonne moving a different direction. These prints were likely meant to be included along with the catalog project are are not simply pages. The original goal was to print 300 of each for the catalog. Some got there and some were less (In the 200's) as the project was scrapped. Ultimately there are 200-400 of each print but this is undocumented. They were in boxes at ULAE and they decided to offer them to the public. They are not meant in any way to be Jasper Johns original prints per ULAE. This does not mean that have more than 300 for sale though.

Jasper Johns ๐บ๐ธ Painter โข Pop Art, Abstract Expressionism , by Howard Johnson on Jun 20, 2017 0:01:38 GMT 1, Come on guys, its a authentic Jasper Johns for $150! Who cares about the edition, I don't think these would be valuable unless you sold them like 10 years down the line. Buy to enjoy, and brag to your friends that you own a Johns!
If we could steer the conversation in a another direction, does anyone know why Johns is so important? Personally, I don't care for his work at all (with the exception of the flags, and I have a feeling its because they resemble Saber's flags which I love and am now realizing are super derivative of Johns). Why is a messy coat hanger such a sought after piece of art? Fans, share your wisdom!

Jasper Johns ๐บ๐ธ Painter โข Pop Art, Abstract Expressionism , by Mirus Gallery on Jun 20, 2017 0:06:59 GMT 1, Interesting edition I am curious why the prints were not destroyed if they were not meant to be an edition and if his estate even would be ok with them being distributed for Sale. Seems like an odd situation, but like others great memorabilia for those into ephemera and antique reproductions.
Ran across this article awhile back when I read this it reminded me of it.

Printing 400 when you need 300 good ones doesn't surprise me at all - I would expect nothing less as printers always print "overs".
I find printing only 200 when you need 300 far more surprising! But I guess this explained by the fact they were hand-printed and not machine printed. So each edition was probably not all printed in one go...

Jasper Johns ๐บ๐ธ Painter โข Pop Art, Abstract Expressionism , by Deleted on Jun 20, 2017 0:29:35 GMT 1, "the paper, color and printing sequence match the original edition. The facsimiles are not signed by the artist and the Telamon Editions Limited seal appears within the images to insure no confusion with the original editions. A short documentation for each image was printed verso. There is a limited quantity available."

Has anyone checked out the new works and prices?

Enrique Chagoya is quite quirky.
