I'm not trying to spark a debate about whether Banksy is our good friend 3D, and I can't imaging that Banksy would ever voluntarily reveal his identity but....
IF Del Naja was in fact Banksy and publicly admitted so, what do you think would happen to the prices of Banksy prints and Banksy's popularity in general? Is the value and fandom predicated upon the mystery of the man, and the continuation of his anonymity ? Is it more about the body and theme's of the work itself ? Just curious of your thoughts. I don't have any Banksy on my walls unfortunately, but if I did I could see how it could be hard to be honest with myself (nobody wants to consider future risk). Hoping that we can try to be objective.

i agree ! Everybody knows who is Banksy, who was Bansky, who is still Banksy and what all the Banksy 's name became!
This 3D name - known as Banksy in his only and unic entity , is really ridiculous and boring !!

why would "flooding" the market matter, either? the original issues will always be the original issues. the edition sizes have not changed from 10+ years ago except for the fact that there are even less of the original issued prints still in existence/in acceptable condition. that's a fact. I don't own a GWB but if I did I wouldn't have been worried one bit if the election print actually came out...

I feel like if Banksy were unmasked, half the people I know would text me to ask if I heard the news, and they would all cast it in a negative light, as if the gig were up. And these are people that don't follow art at all. I just feel like the overall perception would be negative, and a portion of the art buying world would feel the same way, kind of like the magic was gone.

People pay a lot for KAWS and they know who he is.

Can't see anything plummeting if he is unmasked.
I didn't get into his stuff back in 2005 because he was some man of mystery.
Just liked what he was putting out on the streets.
I think the main thing that would hurt market is a reissue of prints or some weird move.
The supply of people willing to sell is really getting low.

Marine biologists recently discovered that Orca who live in large family pods have distinct vocal communication patterns (Languages) depending on where they grew up. So different accents wouldn't be a far stretch. |

Otherwise the publicity would probably only make them more valuable, same if he released a huge bunch of election-prints. The only thing happening is that more people start dreaming of being able to own the "real deal".

Re issuing prints wouldn't work. The inversions would play the 'oh this is an original edition' card and try to maintain prices. The real way would be to release actual prints like shep. You'd still get a similar thing though.
Maybe if he rereleased prints and scrapped PC. Now that would be something. Release another edition size exactly matching the irginial and make no way to tell one from another.
However I think it's safe to say banksy does care about his brand and his market.
