banksy can do anything and still will sell
IMHO

'Banksy Collection' by STOT21stCplanB, by Strange Al on Aug 15, 2007 12:22:03 GMT 1, I think these pieces are pretty funny actually, given that many people will have a niggling doubt that maybe Banksy is in some way connected with them and therefore buy them. The pieces really play with the flipper/bagger mind set and highlight how many people are buying "art" without any consideration of its artistic merit. It's art as a commodity - it's "I can't believe you morons buy this sh*t". The ultimate irony would of course be if Banksy was actually part of STOT (he says starting vicious rumours ).

yes they may be fun and tbh if they were on my walls half my friends would think there genuine, but in my opinion (for what its worth) theres no differance between these and half the banksy junk on the bay

I do think there's a conceptual difference between these and the Banksy junk on Ebay. Though I'm not saying I'd buy either.

Thus, please tell me what is ART. Because, to me it is (while certainly not the acutal picture or image). Is it not art because I could only buy and possess the image?

Its a marketing tool also to get people talking about them and therfor highlighting their web-site. theres is also the fact that in some peoples mind there is a minute possibility these are real banksy, still piss takes nevertheless!

Some artists struggled for their art and still do. This is not art and belongs in his/her bedroom. Buy it, why not. Id rather give 35 to charity, but its not art and in 5 yrs time try and remember this tosh.

These are effectively colourways on a theme.

'Banksy Collection' by STOT21stCplanB, by kronoopus on Aug 16, 2007 16:16:47 GMT 1, Just a question about these or maybe a statement. These are sprayed with a Banksy signature, logo, whatever it is, correct? Wouldn't STOT21stCplanB need "permission" to use it in their work. Or again this is just "borrowed". I think Banksy for sure had something to do with it.
Just my 2 centavos..............

If they was any real proof he did i would get one purely for the chance of a swap later on down the line or even to sell !
a) i dont think he was invovled. at all. i have no doubt he knows about the project (by now) and if not, more generally about the aquarium as they are known for their subversive art projects. present company included.
b) i think your comment captures the very point of the pieces

'Banksy Collection' by STOT21stCplanB, by rob123rob on Aug 16, 2007 20:18:32 GMT 1, but for 35 pounds, I think it's a little like playing the lotto. -may just be a stunt by STOT, very very slight chance it does have something to do with Banksy (maybe this is his statement against the powers of POW, and he figured why not make the worst art in the world and sell it to see if my Morons theory is correct), but still, for that kind of money, worth taking a risk. I bought one. And I think it will actually look rather smart on my wall next to my Morons print. If it's nothing, then it's just nothing, but what if it's something. People could be looking back on this thread in a year saying 'if only', even though they would all still agree that these canvases are ugly. But the ugliness of this art doesn't really matter, because even if Banksy made the ugliest piece of crap you'd ever seen, if he signed his name to it, most of us would still be fighting for it
