Other Criteria, Store Closure, by Bill Hicks on Jul 17, 2017 16:08:15 GMT 1, From September, Other Criteria will become Other Criteria Books, which means we will be focusing solely on publishing specialist art books.
Other Criteria started 15 years ago as a publishing company and today we sell a diverse range of art and merchandise. We have now decided to move our focus back to creating art books.
To that end, we will no longer sell prints, editions or merchandise. Weโre also closing our store in Devon and our operations in New York.
A small selection of Damien Hirst prints and editions will be available via damienhirst.com, and will still be available from Paul Stolper and Paragon Press.
We will relocate the shop at Newport Street Gallery to the buildingโs main entrance and items relating to the shows will continue to be available at the gallery and on its website.
Thank you all for your continued support over the years.

Other Criteria, Store Closure, by docean on Jul 17, 2017 16:53:58 GMT 1, This is a shame, I purchased a Harland Miller from them earlier this year. They were extremely helpful and it was one of the best experiences I've had purchasing artwork. I was told that they were going to be releasing another Miller print later this year, I wonder what is going to happen with that.

The operation must have cost a fortune to run; perhaps that was the reason for pushing Hirst prints en masse, just to keep it afloat. Hirst owns Other Criteria. From what I hear it was an absolute shock to the entire company. Everyone was let go all at once including people that have been with him for over 25 years. His "Treasures" show remains largely unsold so it's quite possible he is starting to plug his financial holes as I can't recall him having a truly successful show since 08-09.

Whilst I on the other hand was treated incredibly poorly by them on numerous occasions, their attitude to me at least was that they were a bit special and didn't actually need to bother with a little thing like proper customer service

I don't think DH is very wise to begin with. Pumping out tens of thousands of prints was my first indication.

Mental.

Too much was CNC carved, and little spoke to me other than maybe the Mannequin dolls, and that large blue sculpture in Palazzo Grazzi.
Like you say, it divides.

Think bigger picture. He's degraded his "brand" and exclusivity. In a 100 years he'll be nothing but a footnote in art history books. He's the Donald Trump of the art world. Great businessman but his appeal has an expiration date.
I would never buy a Hirst nor would I cherish one simply knowing there are so many. Money is fleeting, legacy is forever.
