Nvm... Just noticed it is a timed edition. Now 145 seems high.

I wonder why more artists don't do times releases? Do you think it might have a downside?
I guess it's good in the way that everyone that wants one can buy one without fear of it selling out in a few minutes.

I would think that it increases the likelihood of people purchasing to put on walls rather than flipping, but clearly a lot end up on eBay anyway.

I agree - I think you lose some of the hype factor.

As a purcahser of art it also makes it difficult to know if your paying a good price, I prefer to know the edition size. I think timed releases are ok for cheap prints.

Having said all that I'm sure if Invader announced a timed release there wouldn't be many complaints

The price seems fair to me and I'm a big fan of open editions too. The image is pretty good and a vast improvement on last week's. Yet I'm not sure I like it enough to have on the wall. I doubt it would appreciate in a portfolio, which is where it would end up, so it's a pass from me.

I agree about owning something collectable. and about the cash grab. That said this is still limited edition so all future eelus fans won't be able to purchase it from the source. No one in their right mind would try to flip it so edition might be quite small.  I remember Seth's Over the Rainbow edition being around 100. 

If you're taking the effort to frame it and put on the wall I'd assume that you like the picture and going to enjoy looking at it. You could lose the money only if trying to sell it. Potentially you could spend it in the future on something you like more. Or that you will stop liking it after a while and try to get rid of it. That said it's a 150GBP print so while not the cheapest the potential loss is not that big. 

Something being a timed release doesn't necessarily make it not collectable and also doesn't guarantee that the value will not increase. James Jean has been doing a few time released prints a year for the past few years and they end up with runs around 1000, but some of them still go for 2-3x the original price on the secondary market. Now I know James Jean is a much more high profile artist than Eelus, but I've seen the same thing with time releases from lesser know artists. There's always someone who either didn't hear about the release or didn't have money at the time and wants to pick one up later. And you can bet that there will be some of these on eBay as soon as the time release period is over. Doubt they'll get much, but people will most definitely try.

I also respect whatever the price of a timed release any artist may decide to set, whether it's £145 or even 10% of that.

Realistic time released estimate:

100 prints sold @ £145 = £14,500

1000 prints sold @ 14.50 = £14,500

THE RESULT = EVERYONE HAPPY

This is a great idea.  I think some artists have done nothing about the current situation with flippers.  Some of them encourage the madness.  So it's good to see some steps made so everyone gets a chance. 

I would assume that including tax and other overheads it's quite a bit higher than a production fee of £15 per print.

I'm no expert but I was just trying to help, of course there needs to be a profit margin.

yup, iPhone typing... it was just a hypothetical figure I made up to show my point that there's more involved. If the production cost per print is higher then the profits go down even more and you could end up with a negative.

You also have to factor in the time and labor costs of packing 1000 prints versus 100 prints... it could easily take weeks to pack and ship out 1000 prints.
