EELUS TIMED RELEASE AT ARTREPUBLIC, by Inknart on Aug 3, 2017 16:41:48 GMT 1, Interestingly enough it's 105 cheaper than the previous trip the light fantastic print, maybe a higher edition size?
Actually been waiting for this one to pair with the other print. Would like to know if the colors are the same or have a slight variation due to printing differences?

EELUS TIMED RELEASE AT ARTREPUBLIC, by Daniel Silk on Aug 3, 2017 17:20:53 GMT 1, I wonder why more artists don't do times releases? Do you think it might have a downside? I guess it's good in the way that everyone that wants one can buy one without fear of it selling out in a few minutes.

I guess it's good in the way that everyone that wants one can buy one without fear of it selling out in a few minutes. It seems to be getting more popular. I've noticed Mondo have started doing timed release film posters now!
In some ways it kills my interest though. As much as we moan, it's the getting something rare that's half the fun!

EELUS TIMED RELEASE AT ARTREPUBLIC, by pr.yu on Aug 3, 2017 17:31:31 GMT 1, I would think that it increases the likelihood of people purchasing to put on walls rather than flipping, but clearly a lot end up on eBay anyway.

Yeah, I think it must be interesting for the artist if they do every release like that, coz it gives him a very reliable indicator of how popular the image is and the increase or decrease in the demand for his work.

I agree - I think you lose some of the hype factor.
As a purcahser of art it also makes it difficult to know if your paying a good price, I prefer to know the edition size. I think timed releases are ok for cheap prints.
Having said all that I'm sure if Invader announced a timed release there wouldn't be many complaints

I agree with the previous post about owning something collectable. This is simply a cash grab in my opinion. Spending 200+ to frame a print that has an unknown run seems like a potential waste of money. Eelus prints don't flip for anything these days regardless.

EELUS TIMED RELEASE AT ARTREPUBLIC, by Deleted on Aug 3, 2017 17:44:00 GMT 1, The price seems fair to me and I'm a big fan of open editions too. The image is pretty good and a vast improvement on last week's. Yet I'm not sure I like it enough to have on the wall. I doubt it would appreciate in a portfolio, which is where it would end up, so it's a pass from me.

Spending 200+ to frame a print that has an unknown run seems like a potential waste of money. Eelus prints don't flip for anything these days regardless. I agree about owning something collectable. and about the cash grab. That said this is still limited edition so all future eelus fans won't be able to purchase it from the source. No one in their right mind would try to flip it so edition might be quite small. I remember Seth's Over the Rainbow edition being around 100.
If you're taking the effort to frame it and put on the wall I'd assume that you like the picture and going to enjoy looking at it. You could lose the money only if trying to sell it. Potentially you could spend it in the future on something you like more. Or that you will stop liking it after a while and try to get rid of it. That said it's a 150GBP print so while not the cheapest the potential loss is not that big.

EELUS TIMED RELEASE AT ARTREPUBLIC, by yorkie on Aug 3, 2017 19:03:03 GMT 1, I like this - especially the gold one and agree with inknart that this makes a good pairing with the previous one (on the basis that the colours are similar and the print size pretty close to the same).
I am in for this!

Something being a timed release doesn't necessarily make it not collectable and also doesn't guarantee that the value will not increase. James Jean has been doing a few time released prints a year for the past few years and they end up with runs around 1000, but some of them still go for 2-3x the original price on the secondary market. Now I know James Jean is a much more high profile artist than Eelus, but I've seen the same thing with time releases from lesser know artists. There's always someone who either didn't hear about the release or didn't have money at the time and wants to pick one up later. And you can bet that there will be some of these on eBay as soon as the time release period is over. Doubt they'll get much, but people will most definitely try.

EELUS TIMED RELEASE AT ARTREPUBLIC, by yorkie on Aug 3, 2017 20:31:19 GMT 1, Excellent points..... I think its a very safe bet that there will be prints on eBay within minutes of the timed period ending!
I also think that this is a great way for people to get a print without the concern that they will all go - goes more to the people that want them.
I think its a good print.

EELUS TIMED RELEASE AT ARTREPUBLIC, by Daniel Silk on Aug 3, 2017 21:30:23 GMT 1, I find the subjects and messages behind Eelus prints really interesting.
From chatting with him years ago I know he's very much into UFO's, Aliens and possible involvement in human evolution and the development of civilisation on earth, so I guess these types of images are about that. I think it's great to see an artist producing work that really means something to him and has such an unusual subject.

EELUS TIMED RELEASE AT ARTREPUBLIC, by mfb on Aug 4, 2017 0:09:57 GMT 1, Nvm... Just noticed it is a timed edition. Now 145 seems high.
I quite like this image in relation to his previous releases.
I also respect whatever the price of a timed release any artist may decide to set, whether it's £145 or even 10% of that.
Realistic time released estimate:
100 prints sold @ £145 = £14,500
1000 prints sold @ 14.50 = £14,500
THE RESULT = EVERYONE HAPPY

EELUS TIMED RELEASE AT ARTREPUBLIC, by The True Cubs Fan on Aug 4, 2017 4:12:51 GMT 1, Kenny random has been doing timed releases for a little while now, and I really like his images. I don't see much for resale, with the exception of the few sets etc, so I really like the timed sales. No rush about selling out, really leaves it to buyers who love the image and will treasure it.
I also agree, I love the gold more than the color strings, but I'm sure those will be gone in the blink of an eye. Also really like that the strings extend beyond the print and into the margins. Definitely lends itself to a floating frame or something similar.
All around fun image, kind of excited to see him trying out the timed sale

Everyone happy? Are silkscreens free to produce? Let's say the production cost of each print is £15 and add that to your math to see if everyone is happy:
100 prints sold @ £145 = £14,500 Production cost of 100 prints @ £15 = £1,500 Profit = £13,000
1000 prints sold @ £14.50 = £14,500 Production cost of 1000 prints @ £15 = £15,000 Profit = £500

Let's say the production cost of each print is £15 and add that to your math to see if everyone is happy: 100 prints sold @ £145 = £14,500 Production cost of 100 prints @ £15 = £1,500 Profit = £13,000 1000 prints sold @ £14.50 = £14,500 Production cost of 1000 prints @ £15 = £1,500 Profit = £-1,500 I think you have a very good point Con Art Studio but you might have made a typo, resulting in wonky results. 1000 prints @ £15 = £15,000 Profit = - £500

EELUS TIMED RELEASE AT ARTREPUBLIC, by mfb on Aug 8, 2017 13:00:13 GMT 1, I quite like this image in relation to his previous releases. I also respect whatever the price of a timed release any artist may decide to set, whether it's £145 or even 10% of that. Realistic time released estimate: 100 prints sold @ £145 = £14,500 1000 prints sold @ 14.50 = £14,500 THE RESULT = EVERYONE HAPPY Everyone happy? Are silkscreens free to produce? Let's say the production cost of each print is £15 and add that to your math to see if everyone is happy: 100 prints sold @ £145 = £14,500 Production cost of 100 prints @ £15 = £1,500 Profit = £13,000 1000 prints sold @ £14.50 = £14,500 Production cost of 1000 prints @ £15 = £1,500 Profit = £-1,500
It was just an estimate, I tried to make the example as easy as possible.
I'm no expert but I was just trying to help, of course there needs to be a profit margin.

If the production cost per print is higher then the profits go down even more and you could end up with a negative.
You also have to factor in the time and labor costs of packing 1000 prints versus 100 prints... it could easily take weeks to pack and ship out 1000 prints.

EELUS TIMED RELEASE AT ARTREPUBLIC, by Daniel Silk on Aug 8, 2017 22:12:52 GMT 1, If this tiny edition of just 50 hasn't sold out yet, it makes me wonder how many from this release will sell? Or maybe coz it's ArtRepublic the release will get more media coverage. Certainly going to be interesting to compare the two releases. What print out of the two do people prefer? I like the Upfest release as it has more colour, but I prefer the image of the ArtRepublic release.
