Stolen Invaders in Paris, by raphyki55 on Aug 3, 2017 23:10:22 GMT 1, What do you guys think about this horror that has started a few days ago ?
What on earth could they do with it ? Could they sell it ? To who ?
Two guys with a Mercedes, claiming they are working for the city of Paris, have removed more than 10 iconic invader stuff : dragon ball, Mona Lisa.... Even Invader quoted this on his insta

Stolen Invaders in Paris, by floubi on Aug 4, 2017 0:13:32 GMT 1, As a big fan of the artist and a HUGE fan of flashinvaders game, I'm so mad and sad about what's happening right now.... and I'm afraid it's not the end. It seems we can't do anything about it as these were illegally placed on the streets by the artist. I really hope the reactivation team will be able able to replace them but there are so many of them removed!! But if they do it, I hope the thieves will better understand it has no value!!!!

Stolen Invaders in Paris, by d.r. perseus on Aug 4, 2017 5:13:33 GMT 1, Can someone be kind and explain the use of "stolen" in this context? I truly wish to understand as although I know I have the bias that you can't steal which isn't owned by anyone, the destruction of many at once does elicit a visceral response on me. I suspect this is the beginning of a rain of terror on his pieces due to market prices.

Stolen Invaders in Paris, by findingnemo on Aug 4, 2017 6:01:55 GMT 1, It'll end up in someone's collection. Like this one. Won't be worth anything though. He'll show it off to his friends who won't know any better and think he's cool cause he has an original invader from the "streets". FD has been getting crap for framing this. Even went as far as deleting any negative comments.

Even went as far as deleting any negative comments. Again this just comes across as salty. A street artist with an alias that illegally posts his interesting art, whom I will note also uses the language of his pieces being stolen, reeks mightily of entitlement. He has no more right to ''deface" as one does to "steal." Hell, the idea of spaced invaders being destroyed should be part of the art as it was the premise of the game, but that's a blathering side point none will agree with.
O another side note, what is FD's (or any framers) actual obligation? Do the leg work to determine if its an actual street piece? Say no, i will not frame? why? "I suspect you took this from the streets and that causes moral outrage in some circles!" Should he call the police since, the piece was after all, stolen (good luck with that!)? How about when someone brings a piece to him that is fake? Is it his job to tell his customer he acquired a fake (banksy) piece?

Stolen Invaders in Paris, by The True Cubs Fan on Aug 4, 2017 7:59:34 GMT 1, I think taking an invader piece is not the coolest of things, but if an overzealous fan took one I don't know that I could really hold it against them. Yes the art is meant for everyone, but it is out up illegally and eventually building owners or the city takes them down (as happened in LA in Venice with a piece).
But taking down multiple iconic invaders seems way over the top. I'm sure they will be sold on a private market, or there already are buyers set. I think they are either taking specific ones they know they can sell or they have buyers interested.
All around I feel like it's a shitty move. If they could stop stealing the cool invaders and let the rest of us enjoy them that would be great.
Tldr: this is totally messed up lol.

How about when someone brings a piece to him that is fake? Is it his job to tell his customer he acquired a fake (banksy) piece? This is such an emotive subject, I don't agree with street art being removed from the street, it was placed there by the artist for everyone to enjoy. However, I agree with d.r. perseus on this. Its 'street art' and as any street artist will tell you, it comes with the territory, putting your art on the streets, what ever happens after its been placed becomes part of the art, part of its story. Why do we feel loss for these piece? Is it a sense of ownership? Is it a feeling that part of the Invader story has been stolen from us? Its certainly love for Invaders work and the passion that has grown in collectors. Invader has been around long enough to know the 'rules' of the streets, so the cynic in me wouldn't be at all surprised if this was a stunt, for publicity, by one of the beloved. Artists such as Banksy and Invader have virtually become 'brands' and, I think to justify the hype and prices around their works, they possibly create these scenarios. Banksy especially, has created his own path, not playing by the art establishments rules and therefore has to be inventive; perhaps this is Invader doing the same thing. I know I would be if I were as successful. If, for no other reason just to cause a fuss and watch the fallout. I dunno, just my rambling thoughts before 10 a.m. on a Friday morning. #morecoffee

Stolen Invaders in Paris, by Happy Shopper on Aug 4, 2017 11:00:07 GMT 1, I wonder if anyone took the invader from Rathbone Place in London, opposite Lazarides? Walked past there a few weeks ago and noticed the building has gone and been replaced with a fancy new development!

Stolen Invaders in Paris, by Buff Monster Fan on Aug 4, 2017 11:15:58 GMT 1, As folks usually mention, there's obviously a difference between intentional removal of Invader's for profit or collection, as it appears may be happening here, and the natural removal by building owners, city officials, etc.
A few years ago, I was contacted by a friend in NYC that was employed by a building owner to remove an Invader piece from the building's facade. My friend knew that I enjoy Invader's work and as such, reached out to see if I'd like the tiles.
I'm curious - in a scenario like this, would you accept the tiles as an opportunity to preserve them as a true lover of art, or would you prefer they be destroyed and lost forever?

Stolen Invaders in Paris, by Lord Lucas Roham on Aug 4, 2017 11:51:52 GMT 1, They was a Space Invader in Bangkok, Sukhumvit, around Soi 11-15 I think, it was street level, on a concrete electrical grid box. Next to the street they were building a new highrise hotel (Sofitel). Workmen were all around. I remember I was drunk and the thought crossed my mind to pay a workman to carefully chip it off for me, he probably would have done it for about 200 baht (£4 at the time). Never went through with it, I would have felt guilty and he could have easily destroyed it.
One week later I went back and it was gone. Someone else had the same idea.
Street art will come and go, it will get destroyed, written over or stolen. That's life I guess. At least my conscience is clear.

This might be super unpopular but in that case I would totally take it. That piece is going to be gone and destroyed, and it would be so much better for it to be in a place where it will be cherished than to end up in the trash. It would also be a really cool story which is my favorite part of art
You could always reach out offer it to orbi, but I think that might be going a little bit above and beyond.

Stolen Invaders in Paris, by isurus on Sept 7, 2017 8:52:04 GMT 1, They were arrested on Wednesday and deferred at the beginning of the evening. The thieves of street art fresco are going to have to explain. They had the police on their heels and especially the fearsome street art fans! On Wednesday, the fake municipal agents who vandalized the mosaic frescoes by the artist Invader, who flourished on the streets of Paris, were detained after being held in police custody. They will have to explain to the investigators of the PJ and to the magistrate what they were doing in daylight on a ladder, to take off the mosaics and then embark them in their Mercedes! And especially what they were doing in fluorescent jackets, grimés in agents of the city of Paris. The City had filed a complaint against X for usurpation of office. The case dates back to the beginning of August The two false agents DPE (Direction of the cleanliness and water of the city of Paris) have taken control over twenty frescoes, the famous mosaics inspired by the video game "Space Invaders", often damaging them as vandals . "A fresco can sell a few thousand euros," commented Mehdi Ben Sheikh, Parisian gallery owner who knows the artist well. The fans of Invader, shocked and furious, had not hesitated to spread the photo of the usurpers on Twitter and Facebook. This Wednesday, Olivier, fan of the artist, did not hide his satisfaction when he learned that the duo of false agents was "in the shade" ... "We hope that it will serve as an example. Street art is made to be seen by everyone. It is not intended to be stolen by traffickers. " www.leparisien.fr/paris-75005/paris-les-vandales-d-invader-en-garde-a-vue-06-09-2017-7240635.php HA !!
Hopefully anybody who might think that is a way to get fast money will think twice before imitating these a***oles.

Stolen Invaders in Paris, by The True Cubs Fan on Sept 7, 2017 18:46:29 GMT 1, Apparently they were caught by the municipality.

I google translated the article and posted it below. I do love that google translated them as "usurpers."
They were arrested on Wednesday and deferred at the beginning of the evening. The thieves of street art fresco are going to have to explain themselves.
They had the police on their heels and especially the fearsome street art fans! On Wednesday, the fake municipal agents who vandalized the mosaic frescoes of the artist Invader, who flourished on the streets of Paris, were detained at the Paris public prosecutor's office after being held in custody. They will have to explain to the investigators of the PJ and to the magistrate what they were doing in the open day on a ladder, to take off the mosaics and then embark them in their Mercedes! And especially what they were doing in fluorescent vests, grimés in agents of the city of Paris. The City had filed a complaint against X for usurpation of office. The case dates back to the beginning of August
The two false agents DPE (Direction of the cleanliness and water of the city of Paris) have taken control of twenty frescoes, the famous mosaics inspired by the video game "Space Invaders", often damaging them as vandals . "

Stolen Invaders in Paris, by brycepen on Sept 9, 2017 2:40:35 GMT 1, To be honest, I have done a bit of masonry and I'm more perplexed by how anyone manages to get these off at all. Does anyone know how invader applies the tiles? Sounds like he could use a few tips on masonry techniques. If properly mortared and grouted, nothing short of a jackhammer will remove them. And it would also damage the building.
