North Korea, by Daniel Silk on Aug 9, 2017 13:05:47 GMT 1, Things seem to be getting very heated between North Korea and America in the last very days especially. what do you think can be done to defuse the situation before it kicks off? And what could be done long term to encourage peace in that region?

North Korea, by Daniel Silk on Aug 9, 2017 13:16:59 GMT 1, I think America should distance themselves completely from the situation, coz trump is only making it worse. Better to get China and South Korea around the table to agree the way forwards. Of course China are not much help at the moment, so what if between South Korea and China, they agreed to divide the north between them? I have a feeling China would change their tune with that offer on the table. I think it's really important to get China involved so they feel they are gaining from the outcome.

Yeah, I wonder if the whole thing really suits what China want, in the way that the world see North Korea as the big evil in the world, taking the limelight off themselves. It's like North Korea is a puppet of China just trying to windup America, and of course trump plays up to it big time! America seems to always need a villain, Russia, China and North Korea.

North Korea, by Deleted on Aug 9, 2017 18:34:50 GMT 1, For China they won't do anything. If North Korea bombs South Korea, Japan, Guam or any part of the US... China will be happy. If the US takes out Kim/North Korea then China doesn't have to deal with them anymore and they are happy... China probably will just shoot all the north koreans trying to get into China or just take over part of the area giving them land closer to place their military right next to South Korea and Japan. This a win win for china/russia as it get the US, Japan and South Korea into another very expensive War. Russia and China just get to watch all their military technology and money they have put into NK at work. NK are sitting on a ton of new powerful military technology (mostly from *China, Russia and Iran; wasn't the new nk missiles even photographed on Chinese trucks?) and they want to either use it or force acceptance from the entire world. The other problem is they will probably have to sell off most their new nuclear weapons/ technology to other rouge states or groups to make money. China should be held responsible as well for any action that Nk does. It's a scary issue that should have been dealt with years ago. Unfortunately at this point something might have to be done militarily; which is really really not what the world wants but might have to deal with. It's very sad how the balance of power between China and America (also Russia messing around with the world) is already creating a WW3 like situation. ** I hate trump but once California or any mainland part of the US really honestly gets threatened by a NK bomb...this will be a political issue between left and right which it shouldn't. Guam is part of America but yet Americans are kind of lame and sometimes don't care as much for them or Hawaiians/Alaskans for the matter which is disgusting but kind of true. NK has been doing this for a long long time before Trump and Obama. I think once NK really (right now it's just somewhat talk) does threaten American mainland, which then it will be too late, then this will not even be a political issue between parties anymore.ย Plenty of questionable statements here.
The most obvious one is China will be "happy" if NK collapses. China, will be anything but, as with SK, they are propping them up because neither want a humanitarian disaster of millions of refugees flooding in. They both want to contain the situation by muddling through with quiet bribes and backhanders to keep Kim Jong Un at bay. Unfortunately NK's leadership is similar to a spoilt toddler, insofar as it's given stuff and then immediately demands more. The latest sanctions just push NK further towards aggression.
This situation isn't new, and, although it sounds counter intuitive, I actually think Trump could be the right man to solve this peacefully. The pussy footing around with six party talks and such like was at best a method to just maintain paralysis. Trump might actually offer a plan of supporting NK out of the cold by aggressively bargaining on disarmament for money, which afterall is what this boils down to.

North Korea, by jakey on Aug 10, 2017 0:11:08 GMT 1, The whole business is sad to think that humanity is not intelligent enough to resolve issues without resorting to warfare... it's depressing. Add power hungry politicians into the mix and it's pathetic...
The majority of American's didn't vote for Trump, and don't want him. Public opinion is low and he is losing his support in congress and the senate. His administration is plagued by scandals and people have been talking about impeachment...
He won't be the first world leader to employ warfare as a tool to maintain a position of power. Unfortunately, the stakes are very high, and the outcome will significantly effect more than just those country's directly involved, if not the entire world.

North Korea, by met on Aug 10, 2017 15:39:03 GMT 1, The rhetorical escalation between the United States of America and North Korea is of real concern.
Does anyone here have the direct email address for Rex Tillerson, the U.S. Secretary of State, or Susan Thornton from the Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs?
Both of them should be sent a link to this UAA thread, so they can learn how to defuse the North Korean situation ASAP.
My fear is that messages via the State Department's generic Contact Us form (register.state.gov/contactus/contactusform) are failing to reach the right professionals.
The last time I used the Contact Us form was in relation to the ISIS problem (which is very serious, people are getting killed). I suggested a John Lennon song that the State Department could send to jihadists to resolve matters. However, I didn't even receive an acknowledgement, let alone a thank you. So it's clear that some messages are just getting lost in their bureaucratic system.

North Korea, by Daniel Silk on Aug 12, 2017 11:07:04 GMT 1, Watching the Athletics on TV. Knowing how relations between China and America are, isn't it strange how the China athletes are all wearing Nike? I would have thought the China Government would only use a Chinese brand. Could you imagine America wearing anything other than an American brand? Certainly not Russian or Chinese.

Knowing how relations between China and America are, isn't it strange how the China athletes are all wearing Nike? I would have thought the China Government would only use a Chinese brand. Could you imagine America wearing anything other than an American brand? Certainly not Russian or Chinese. Are relations really that bad between China and US? I'm not sure they are and certainly not bad enough for boycotting of global sports manufacturers that are based in the US.
Incidentally, outside of track and field not all USA sports are Nike. For example, gymnastics is I think Adidas (German) and their blue ribbon basketball team used to be Reebok (UK, kind of). I'm pretty sure Nike's dominance is because they outbid their rivals for US track and field rather than some higher governmental interference. The Chinese giant sporting brands like Lin Ning are nowhere in the global market, but who knows maybe they will be in ten years.
