TERRY O'NEILL, by firstimer on Aug 9, 2017 17:07:29 GMT 1, Hey guys.
Slowly starting to expand my horizons and looking into buying a couple of pieces by Terry O'Neill. As I check this site almost everyday, I thought I'd start here.
I'm particularly looking for two images. co signed editions of Terry's Faye Dunaway Oscar image and also Brigitte Bardot Cigar.
If anyone is maybe thinking of parting with either of these images, please do let me know.

TERRY O'NEILL, by darrenrapley on Aug 10, 2017 7:14:59 GMT 1, I think it may be worth giving Lucy Bell a call. www.lucy-bell.com
She has some connection with Terry I believe (maybe husband worked with him?), and often has iconic O'Neill images there for sale.
I can pop in on the weekend to have a look if you want as I live 2 mins away?

TERRY O'NEILL, by kfroms on Aug 10, 2017 8:44:18 GMT 1, I was looking for a small size version ( in colour, max 40x50cm ) of the Faye Dunaway print every now and then but there is not a lot on the market ( apart from versions signed by both with a massive mark up ) If you are after a big one or a black/white one there is more available.
In the meantime I spent the funds on 'Priscilla' by Joseph Szabo....

Leaving aside any concerns related to authenticity, you're probably aware of the other potential pitfalls of purchasing from private sellers or secondary-market dealers versus primary dealers:
1. A key point for me relates to possible condition issues — including hidden condition issues when photographs are sold framed. The likelihood of ending up with a pristine piece is clearly far greater when buying unframed from a primary dealer.
2. Satisfactory resolution (e.g. prompt refund, reasonable discount offered, or immediate replacement) to any problems, such as damage occurring during shipping, is also less likely to be achieved with a private, non-professional seller.
3. Another point, which not all collectors are concerned about, is direct provenance. Generally speaking, I prefer the chain of ownership for works I acquire to be as short as possible. Exceptions do exist, especially when the identity of a previous owner is in some way interesting. But if given the choice between (a) buying a work from source, and (b) buying a work that's been passed around in quick succession like a two-bit whore, I'm usually happy paying a premium for the former.
___________
For primary, check out Preiss Fine Arts in Vienna:
www.preissfinearts.com/artists/terry-oneill/artwork/
Regardless of the seller, make sure to always get written confirmation of the year of printing of any vintage image you purchase. There's a huge difference in desirability and financial value between:
(i) a photo taken in 1971 and printed in 1971; and (ii) a photo taken in 1971 and printed in 2017.
___________
Separately and out of interest, do you isolate the Brigitte Bardot cigar photograph from the woman herself, what she has become, and what she represents today?
I too am a fan of old Bardot imagery; the famous 1959 shot by Avedon is on my refrigerator. For me, however, Bardot's outspoken nature and ultra-conservative political views make her both more interesting and perhaps less attractive as an individual. Part of the myth and mythical appeal have been lost. They've become overshadowed by reality.

TERRY O'NEILL, by firstimer on Aug 26, 2017 13:44:41 GMT 1, met kfroms rjf76 I ended up pulling the trigger on two co-signed works. A smaller Bardot Cigar, and a regular sized Dunaway. Purchased direct from gallery who will acquire the works from Terry's Studio. I'll upload photos once they arrive and I get them framed up. If anyone is interested in buying - drop me an inbox, I did extensive research with galleries and got a great price from a highly respected gallery
Bardot cigar co-signed: 12 x 16
Dunaway oscar co-signed: 16 x 20
On a side note - I also purchase a third piece - It's a very decent sized collab (Image Size: 20in x 26in Framed Size: 29in x 36in) from Terry O'Neill and Simon Claridge of Bardot cigar but with diamond dust. On the front it is stamped by O'neill and signed by Simon Claridge. On the back, there it is authenticated and signed by both O'neill and Claridge. I am currently in London and managed to see the works in person - having bought the genuine co signed pieces from Terry, it wasn't necc. to buy this work - but in the flesh, it genuinely looks great and considering the price range, I thought it was a steal. 995 GBP including VAT. To me - a great buy for anyone who wants the Bardot in a large size but cant afford the actual edition. What I'll now do with the smaller co-signed bardot edition and this larger collab diamond dust piece? Make sure anyone who thinks I'm crazy for spending so much on a photograph doesnt see the two identical images at the same time
I believe there are a few of the collab images left. Contact Jimmy @ Castle Galleries in London, easy to work with.

TERRY O'NEILL, by firstimer on Sept 22, 2017 13:04:37 GMT 1, Bit the bullet. They arrived yesterday. Having trouble with framing decisions. Could go with Terry's standard white mount black frame, but ive seen some black mount on black frame that look incredible too.

Nice! I personally prefer classic framing on photography...white mat, black frame (not too chunky)...sometimes even white spacers. Look forward to seeing 👍🏻

Could go with Terry's standard white mount black frame, but ive seen some black mount on black frame that look incredible too. You won't go far wrong with those two, defintely his most iconic. I considered the Faye Dunaway but I'd want a large version of it which is very expensive now. The Bardot is such a simple image it works at any size.

TERRY O'NEILL, by firstimer on Sept 26, 2017 17:55:10 GMT 1, Completely agree with you. I wanted the larger image, but it worked out that the 16 x 20 co signed Dunaway and 12 x 16 co signed Bardot collectively came to the same price as one 20 x 24 co Signed Dunaway. So I went with the smaller image, and happily now have two co signed Terry prints
Once framed, I dont think the difference in dunaway sizes will bother me much at all. But seeing the Bardot everyday will more than make up for 4 less inches of Faye
