Banksy Snorting Copper back, by goaty on Aug 19, 2017 7:33:05 GMT 1, This wall was really badly damaged. I have no idea how they managed to restore it but they've done a good job.

Here's what it looked like in april '06:
...and in august ´06. Then it was whitewashed.

Is that Guardian article a news story, or an advertising feature for Brandler Galleries?
_________
Asked about security, Ellis said the artwork would be bolted to a concrete floor. It weighs 2.5 tonnes and will be protected by reinforced glass, alarms and CCTV. In its steel frame, it is about 2.5 metres wide by 1.5 metres high.
Ellis said: “We’re putting it back in exactly the same location it was painted on the toiletblock, but we’ve put it back on the inside of the glass, so it can’t get vandalised or damaged. We’re lighting it up 24 hours a day so you can see it.”
Looks like Shoreditch is continuing its transformation into a street-art theme park. More sanctioned walls. A veneer of edge for tourists to gawp at. And for property developers or estate agents to cream themselves over. With protection against nasty vandals by all-day lighting, reinforced glass, alarms and CCTV.
The irony is enough to bring a tear to one's eye. Query whether the copper will be accompanied by a gold commemorative plaque, in order for everybody to benefit from a spoon-fed pablum version of graffiti.
As with the so-called Haight Street Rat, this piece is also neutered by the fact it's only half an artwork. But the loss of meaning and altered context probably matters little for those involved. After all, they own "a Banksy".

Thanks for posting.
What your photos demonstrate is that, while the outcome of the restoration process is still a Banksy image, it hardly remains a Banksy original. 90% of it has been repainted with fresh paint by someone else's hand.
Despite having been done professionally and very competently, the result is arguably similar to the Kissing Coppers piece — following the handiwork of Jez the barman from the Prince Albert pub in Brighton.

I would go further and say its no longer a Banksy original, at best an "after Banksy". Without the dripped lines of paint on the streets, it has no context. Its also not unique piece, there was another in Leake Street!!!
