U/S Napalm potential sale. , by bdr79 on Aug 20, 2017 18:15:41 GMT 1, Good afternoon all,
This is my first ever piece of art I've ever considered selling. I have many people on the forum I have bought from, but never actually sold anything myself. So, hoping if someone is interested those I have dealt with in the past would confirm I'm pretty decent guy to do business with.
It's a reluctant sale, but with so much art I'm needing to have a 'walk-in' storage closet built! I have about 150 pieces. On top of that I'm having to scrap my car as the cost to import is not worth the hassle. A friend has offered me his car at a reasonable price so need to raise some funds to put towards these 2 projects.
Napalm was the first Banksy print I ever bought, genuinely love it, and whilst the Mrs also appreciates it, the kids are now seeing past Mickey and Ronald and asking awkward questions why the little girl is crying!
I'm gonna provide as many pics as possible, and to be totally transparent, this print is not 'mint'!
I purchased from the original owner and it was in the original Art Republic frame (the little silver metal one, with weird stubby screws). Anyway, at some point damp/water has gotten into the frame.
On the front top left, there is an approx 1cm water mark (which is framed out). The back of the print however has a larger water stain which from memory is about 10cms long and 6cms deep. The original owner seemed genuinely surprised when I took collection of the print and removed from the frame, and tbf to him he offered a full refund. But in the end I decided to keep as I loved the image, was happy with the price paid, knew the damage would frame out and just wanted to put on the wall and enjoy.
I have had it reframed from when I bought it. Framed now to full conservation standards with museum 'TruVue' glass. And it has been hung out of direct sunlight/smoke free etc ever since.
Size including frame is 95cms by 75.5cms. The cost of framing this was ยฃ400. I lived in the Channel Islands at the time and used a local framer, who is fantastic at what he does. A real student of all framing techniques, and frames many high value works of art. Any interested parties could choose whether they want frame or not.
I haven't opened the current framing, as I know many people on here are only interested in 'mint', and if thats the case I am genuinely happy to keep. But if anyone is keen I can take along to a reputable framers and have opened and take fuller/higher resolution pictures than those provided. The pictures with the damage were taken when bought which would have been beginning 2014.
I asked recently on the price check how much an U/S Napalm was considered worth and the only response I received was "ยฃ7-8k, more if buy from a gallery and less if selling to a gallery". This was more than I expected. There is also one on a well known auction site for ยฃ8.5k. Which hasn't sold at that price.
And clearly my print is damaged too.
So with that all said and done, and appreciating anyone who has taken the time to read such a lengthy price check/sale thread. Pictures are provided below, and I welcome any responses and what you may think this is worth.
Apologies about the picture quality. I'm afraid these are screenshots as i no longer have the original iPhone i took the pics with. So it is screenshots I uploaded at the time to email to the previous owner.
Full P/C COA in my name.
Thanks

U/S Napalm potential sale. , by touchdowntodd on Aug 20, 2017 19:28:42 GMT 1, GREAT thread. . Sincerely wish all were like this.
That being said, I'm interested depending on price. Even with damage. So I should stay out of the price discussions for fairness

U/S Napalm potential sale. , by yorkie on Aug 20, 2017 19:39:57 GMT 1, Great thread with one exception price.... I'm guessing you have a price in mind so why don't you say what it is and then let people either offer at it or not.
I also am interested in this but given the fact I've made a few offers recently I would like to know expectations prior to deciding if to make an offer or not.
Good luck!

U/S Napalm potential sale. , by bdr79 on Aug 20, 2017 21:42:13 GMT 1, Hey all.
Thanks for the pleasant messages....if i'm honest I didn't expect the amount of PM's I've got, or the amount of pleasant replies on thread. I expected to be torn to pieces on quoting the price check, and on the damage.
So, as much as ยฃ7-8k did seem high to me, no one has disagreed.
I'm thinking those prices are for mint. Clearly this one isn't....so I think 25% below that price would reflect the damage.
So on ยฃ7.5k with 25% off that is ยฃ5,625....
By all means, please let me know if that's way off expectations. If however, that seems fair, please PM me.
I'm based in Glasgow. And as stated I'm happy to take along to framers, unframed and take high resolutions pics, and have measuring tape to give exact sizes of water markings, which I can mail to anyone interested.
Unless someone can tell me how I can upload direct from phone on the mobile app/site?
Thanks John

U/S Napalm potential sale. , by bdr79 on Aug 21, 2017 23:58:13 GMT 1, Hey SmallPaul,
Thanks to you and a couple of other guys who reached out and advised contacting Graham.
I called Graham today and have sent him pics and he believes he can restore the print to it's former glory!
Quite amazing really. I'm waiting on more info from Graham tomorrow as to exactly what he believes can be done, price, time scale etc.
Once I have that info I will update and let you know.
Again, thanks guys for the truly helpful advice. I hadn't really considered restoration, I just accepted it was what it was.
There are a lot of good guys on this site!
