Flippers: Essential to the Art Market Yes or No, by ToonKiller on Aug 27, 2017 21:30:23 GMT 1, The real question is... are the little bitches who cry over flippers essential to the art market? Certainly more essential. Without them there would be no flippers. You #ยง%&. Really doubt your tears are more essential to the art market no matter what your mother tells you.

I think you are being very silly and immature. Your attempt at comedy failed and I feel you are perhaps not on the forum best suited to you.

But that's fine. I block the least cultured members of the forum and you have been added to the list. It's not your fault. It's not your fault. It's not your fault.

Flippers: Essential to the Art Market Yes or No, by ToonKiller on Aug 27, 2017 22:34:21 GMT 1, No need to make multiple posts when there's an edit button Champ. Also no need to quote the person you're posting under, unless you're like Drew Barrymore in 50 First Dates and you can't remeber what was just said.
But if you blocking me means I don't have to see all that clutter anymore then please do it.

It's a shame if we seek to demean members who don't share the same opinion. I would hope that in view of the shared interest in art we can all treat each other with respect, failing which, at least courtesy.

Flippers: Essential to the Art Market Yes or No, by chevyav53 on Aug 28, 2017 0:29:15 GMT 1, Ha this guy talking about what someone's mother tells them references Drew B. and 50 first dates. But maybe flipping from the basement of your parents home with your bots is satisfying enough and you don't need friends.

Flippers: Essential to the Art Market Yes or No, by Leo Boyd on Aug 28, 2017 0:54:26 GMT 1, Could not galleries be classified as flippers? yeah in a sense you are right but normally an artist works out a contract with a gallery where the gallery deals with promotion/sales and the like for a percentage of the sale. in the south of ireland they have a newish law where some percentage of resale of art work goes to the artist or the artists estate. its a pretty good idea but i imagine a massive legal mine field. they also have a law where if you show work in a gallery they gallery is obliged to pay the artist a fee for expenses to a minimum of 250 euros.

Flippers: Essential to the Art Market Yes or No, by coller on Aug 28, 2017 3:14:16 GMT 1, I get that everyone hates flippers, but here is the "benefit" they provide: in a hypothetical world without flippers, only collectors would get the prints. Therefore, if you missed out on that print, you wouldn't have anyone to get it from, because the only buyers would be non-flippers. Maybe you could pry one off someone in 6 months or a year, but then the demand would be even higher and likelihood of getting a print you missed out on would be much lower. So while flippers may establish that a piece of art is worth more than what it was sold for at source, they also essentially devalue the art by acting as disinterested sellers who have no intention of holding onto the work of art; this manipulates the perceived value of the work and lets people buy at lower prices during the immediate period after the release than they might if the flippers weren't present. And yes, they also make it harder to get prints from the source. It is what it is; hard to tell if that's a good or bad thing overall, in my opinion.

Flippers: Essential to the Art Market Yes or No, by virusde on Aug 28, 2017 8:07:32 GMT 1, When you choose to go use a gallery for buying art you pay the service of a qualified person to make your choice. Same as when you buy a car. You are deciding that you need the input of a person to guide you because you either have no time to dig in the products characteristics, or think you don't have the abilities to do so. As a person who loves do understand how everything works (or trying to, at least), I think seller is a job who'll tend to fade away. If I think as a person mentioned above I trust in the selling job. I think a flipper is in no way comparable to a seller. He has absolutely no other skill than making money. Some would say, great, it's the most important thing to know how to do. I do not. I have the chance of loving my job, and I would be really sad needing to be a flipper. And therefore I think flippers are a tragedy for the art market. It is the best marketing tool for this market, thus the worst for us art lovers.
edit : ohhh f*** it it's not easy to express yourself on such a subject when it's not your native language. Sorry if your eyes are bleeding right know !

Flippers: Essential to the Art Market Yes or No, by Balboa on Aug 28, 2017 8:14:41 GMT 1, Personally, I like flippers. Why? Because if all of the, say, concert tickets, went to 'true fans', and I didn't get lucky at the initial release, then I would never be able to see that show. With resellers in the market, I can almost always access any show as long as I find the premium acceptable. Same applies to prints or any other item. Flippers provide access that you don't have at the drop. For that service, there is a cost.
That logic doesn't make much sense to me because the other 'true fans' can pay the same premium as you, if they are willing, which means you are competing with them twice.

You're assuming all 'true fans' have the same financial resources. That would not be accurate.
On the competing, yes, that's a market. That's to be expected. But, at least a market allows me a real chance of acquiring what I want. Unlike, say, the recent Laz Invader drop.
In the case of the Laz drop, flippers provide exactly what I've said they do: access, which I think 1000's of people will tell you Laz's site didn't.
