Overseas sales, by damo on Sept 4, 2017 10:54:38 GMT 1, I'm looking to sell my Invader RVE and have recieved what feels like a fair offer for me so keen to transact, but... it's an overseas buyer (North America). Whilst I've done a few trades on here it's always been f2f in london so both parties are happy, etc. What is best method for selling overseas in a way that gives both parties the most confidence? I'm nervous of some horror stories I've heard that suggest post count/references alone are not enough, and likewise I want to guarantee something sent in perfect condition arrives the same?
Basic question but any suggestions most welcomed as it's a fair slug of money/top quality print I'd be receiving/sending.
Ta in advance

Overseas sales, by mose on Sept 4, 2017 16:14:41 GMT 1, Received couple on this forum in PVC tube ..it's like a tank ..highly recommend that route PVC is inexpensive(relative to high-quality cardboard tubes from, say, Yazoo Mills which have to be order at least 4+ at a time for most sizes) and offers fantastic protection.
Just everyone, please, if you use PVC wash it out in your shower before using and dry well.

Interesting, why do they need to be washed? Wasn't aware of pvc tubes before this thread. Would appreciate if you took the time to expand on this. Chemicals damaging the prints I guess?

They tend to be grimy on the inside. Can easily get it on your fingers and transfer onto the print.

Absolutely. I get mine from Home Depot(who will custom cut for you) or Lowes Hardware(who won't) here in the States. Dirty is too kind to describe them. They are an industrial product, stored in all conditions, and the primary end user doesn't really care about the cleanliness of them.

Overseas sales, by churchwood on Sept 4, 2017 16:41:25 GMT 1, Wickes do a 2m length grey soil pipe for ยฃ10 - its absolutely rock solid and can be cut to size with a saw.
sand the ends that you cut so they are smooth inside and outside as it'll be sharp/rough and then wash it out as the bits of sanded tube can get inside - the Wickes ones are 110mm width so a wide lipped 4" end cap could be adjusted to fit pretty well

Overseas sales, by Happy Shopper on Sept 4, 2017 16:47:10 GMT 1, I've not sent that many tubes to the US (maybe 5 or 6), but received quite a few more, and never had an issue with a sturdy cardboard tube, with the prints rolled in craft paper.
(I guess there's always a first time though!)

Overseas sales, by caruso on Sept 5, 2017 7:52:17 GMT 1, I read somewhere on this forum there's only one company that insures art pieces in case of damage during transit. Can't remember in which thread, maybe post a new one specific with that question rather than risk problems. I hope this helps.

Overseas sales, by Winks on Sept 5, 2017 8:16:13 GMT 1, I recently used Flight Logistics for an international delivery and they were superb. Susan in the art department took control and oversaw everything from start to finish. Fully insured using a fragile service Not cheap but worry free. I double tubed my print. A square sided tube wrapped in bubble wrap inside a round tube.

Mine was ยฃ175, collect from me, insured for ยฃ5k, two day. Like I said, not cheap but when you balance it against expensive art, it's worth it
Edit. Just checked it was ยฃ145, of which ยฃ75 was insurance. The international courier was APC who do a fragile service.
