Banksy Arms Fair, by Coach on Sept 13, 2017 19:10:18 GMT 1, It makes sense because it's a parody of English 50's decor. I understand that this probably doesn't translate well to people from other countries, but there you go. It's already been explained to you. Someone has already posted a picture of the decor that is being parodied. There is nothing more that can be done to explain this to you. Take it or leave it. I get that. I don't need explaining. But the strict copy of the decor harms the piece in my opinion. That's what I'm discussing. Like I said he went more kitsch and I think that harms the piece. Just a critique from me. Disagree if you like...
I do.

Banksy Arms Fair, by Dive Jedi on Sept 13, 2017 19:17:25 GMT 1, Why would a single drone, on it's own, be hanging on someone's wall, above a child's drawing? The whole point is that it's a parody of the ducks. Without that "joke" it would just be totally random! Having said that, he could also have done it like the flying saucer invasion oil painting (shown at Bristol Museum), with some painted into the picture, and some flying out of it. That would work equally well, without the elaborate staging... but then you'd say he was redoing an old idea. Sure. I've never said it should be an image of one drone. I'm saying it should have been conieved as one drone. Or at least perceived as one drone. That would make the work stronger. The walled off version is much stronger. So what's your question ?

Don't think there was one in that statement :-)

Why? You just like full kitsch that mucks up the terror of drone strikes?
The drones as mostly a nod to English decor wastes the otherwise important message.

You don't discuss Banksy though.
Having read your posts around the forum I struggle to find one discussion you have had.
A discussion is generally held between adults who rationally debate something. From the way your posts come across I would say you don't qualify as an adult, and the word rational may be beyond your understanding.
By the way I like this, it does what banksy is good at, it gets a message across quickly with one look. That's why he started doing what he does on the street. This isn't on the street, but as always it gets the message across quickly, and easily. That's why I like banksys work.
Feel free to put your thoughts down, or insult me. I don't care and am only posting as I'm bored.
Cheers.

The reason I really enjoy banksys street work is that after one look I understand what he is trying to say. In terms of being on the street this is vital as you might see it from a train or from a car, only for a second, or you might walk past and not want to stop and stare at it for ages trying to understand what the artist is trying to say, this is especially important when the meaning of the work is political, as is often the case with what banksy is painting.
If you understand the point he has made during this one brief look, then his work is done.
Banksy above all stencil artists, in my opinion, is the best at this. He might not be the best stencil artist, I would say someone like Logan Hicks is technically better, but he is the best for me at getting his point across quickly, cleverly, and with some humour.
As to it being the artistic version of a tweet, I can't answer as I'm too old and don't tweet. However Twitter appears to be a fairly powerful platform these days so perhaps I should get into it.
For me I see the easy understandable meaning to start with, then I try and read deeepr into it. Very often I can see other meanings that perhaps only I see. Often others see the same meanings, and that's great, that's art.
Cheers

I agree 100% as this did very much apply to banksy as a street artist and his very early works.
However I don't think the same can be applied to his current works.

The whole point is that it's a parody of the ducks. Without that "joke" it would just be totally random! That would work equally well, without the elaborate staging... but then you'd say he was redoing an old idea. Sure. I've never said it should be an image of one drone. I'm saying it should have been conieved as one drone. Or at least perceived as one drone. That would make the work stronger. The walled off version is much stronger.
How would that look then? Perhaps do us a drawing of how you'd improve it.
Also, did I just read that now it's the kitch aspect you don't like... The aspect we had to explain to you because you hadn't understood the image!?
It gets funnier the more you carry on!

I think you are misunderstanding. I originally said I don't like the cartoonish of it. I then asked about the drones which brought up the kitsch. That makes it even worse then I originally thought!
I don't mind the drones if you tell me it's about the narrative. However you tell me I'm wrong on that which is a shame. I'll still view it that way as it makes it better to me.
But the cartoonish is terrible.
The walled off version is much more sucessful. Add to that that the drones should have been a 'continuous narrative' and not just some kitsch reference and banksy has a winner....
