And now for something completely different, by Vincent on Sept 30, 2017 11:31:28 GMT 1, Hi, Last week I introduced myself and a few of my paintings in the Introduce Yourself Thread. It doesn't come as a surprise that some people are curious about the technique I use. I am prepared to unveil the secret by posting a video about 'the making of' but before I spill the beans and in order to build up some tension I would like to find out if anyone has any idea...
So here is a painting of 90/90 centimeters and a fraction of it in detail.
Just for the record, I only use spray cans, I press the caps with my own fingers and I don't use masking tape, rulers or templates of any kind!

Would be rather scary if you used other people's fingers to press the caps.
Great work - looking forward to see how you do that.

And now for something completely different, by Deleted on Sept 30, 2017 17:00:18 GMT 1, My guess would be that you use some type of frame above the work, so you can lock it off to give you straight lines then you do cut backs to give the fine edges. Also may have some type of modified caps. Good work btw.

And now for something completely different, by stavi on Sept 30, 2017 19:21:56 GMT 1, My guess is you have a rig on wheels to hold the can for the horizontal lines. And maybe some kind of trick with string for the circle. Curious to see how it's really done.

And now for something completely different, by pada1 on Oct 1, 2017 7:26:25 GMT 1, From the close-up photo, you used both black and white paint. So the main circle must have been full black at the beginning.
I donโt see any mark of the following but still giving it a try: you have folded the canvas in tranches and painted tranch by tranch.

I did indeed, the wheel has basically remained the same since I first used it in 2001, the spinning cylinder was improved every time I had to reconstruct it after moving places, now running version 6.1

This 'making of' video is the last one in this thread for the time being... Now that I have exposed my technique I intend to focus a little on the marketing of my paintings
Like I've said before, I kept this process a secret for more than fifteen years and now I feel relieved it's finally in the cloud... Do I fear someone is going to copy this method? On the contrary, perhaps some other artists will invent other versions of technical tools and I'm curious of what they could come up with.
Unfortunately I know absolutely nothing about making prints so I recently decided to start painting on paper to be able to offer an alternative for my canvas paintings in another price range. Hope to see you soon in a 'Art For Sale' thread!!
Meanwhile I'm quite happy to answer any questions about my paintings or the process of making them.

And now for something completely different, by Vincent on Oct 28, 2017 13:05:04 GMT 1,
These are a few pictures from paintings I made in 2002. I used to call them Psychedelic Circles and it was a lot of fun making them. My style has evolved substantially since then, but I am still using the same device as in those days, only slightly modified to control the speed of the drill. All this time I searched the web to look if anyone has ever tried to make these kind of paintings in the same way. Two or three years ago I finally found someone who did... only to find out that someone wasn't just anybody...
Make sure to at least watch this video up to 4:18
