Am I mad... Micallef versus Faile?, by mcnuts on Mar 19, 2007 12:29:49 GMT 1, Looking for some feedback here...
I recently picked up two new Faile pieces and am quite chuffed. Having spent over my budget I will need to part with something else from my very very limited collection. I am thinking of selling my Micallef JD as I have little else to cover the costs of my Faile purchases.
I like the Faile pieces much more than the JD (though I like, but do not own, other Micallefs). But, am I mad to sell the Micallef? Yes, I realise purists will say you must like art for artโs sake and while I like the artist, the piece is just โokโ. The Faile pieces on the other hand are top notch. But considering what is in the works for Micallef it maybe seems a bit rash to part with the print now? At the end of the day, somethingโs gotta go and I can't keep both. Thoughts?

Am I mad... Micallef versus Faile?, by slowmo on Mar 19, 2007 12:50:00 GMT 1, Sounds to me like you have already made your mind up. If you need to sell anything, sell that which you are least likely to miss, so give up the Micallef.

If you need to sell anything, sell that which you are least likely to miss, so give up the Micallef. Ya, I sorta have but not quite ready for the plunge yet. The Mrs sees the JD as too dark and I agree but I do like the idea of owning a signed piece for the artist. For me the Faile stuff just has a better feel to it. What's holding me back I guess, monetary the value creeps in. While for some peopel it may not be a big issue, in my position (massive student loans and a baby) it is ! Stupid capitalist society

Am I mad... Micallef versus Faile?, by Dellboyy on Mar 19, 2007 13:07:10 GMT 1, Out of interest which two Faile's did you buy?
Also, i think it depends on if you're buying for yourself, or for future investment. Trouble is in years to come who knows which of Faile and Micallef might be worth more? So you may as well sell the one you like least!

Buying for myself and investment. I picked up a Shanghai and a Torment Orange. However, I was part of the oversell in both cases. So, not quite sure what the colours will be in the end but happy with both images.

Am I mad... Micallef versus Faile?, by Dellboyy on Mar 19, 2007 13:19:09 GMT 1, Nice prints! I do like the orange torment one... i may have picked one up myself if i'd have got to the site on time!
As it happens i managed to get a Judgement Day last Thursday, so i'm not that disappointed! :-)
You could always keep one of each of course, to cover all bases!

Am I mad... Micallef versus Faile?, by manchestermike on Mar 19, 2007 14:10:20 GMT 1, Difficult one - it's a matter of taste I suppose. Out of my Micallef's JD is my favourite and there's no way I'd sell... but if you like the Faile prints better then go for it

Am I mad... Micallef versus Faile?, by pastiepie on Mar 19, 2007 14:31:14 GMT 1, I personally prefer Faile over Micallef, but that is just personal preference. From a monetary value it is hard to tell what will happen in the coming years as the current growth in the contemporary art world is unheard of and potentially volatile. The only reason I wouldn't keep the Faile is because they tend to release multiple editions of every image and at the rate they're going they will have many thousand prints on the market by the end of the year.

I think you would regret selling your JD as it will rise in price and may rise more than the Faile. A few weeks ago they struggled to make 600 then one goes for 800, get a CC with zero percent on transfers and hang on to all these if you can. Thats my advice.

cheers curley and everyone else. What I may do then is part with one Faile and sit tight with one thus being able to keep the JD. Will wait to see the Faile's in the flesh but do appreciate the feedback. Off to get a 0% CC

Am I mad... Micallef versus Faile?, by BK83 on Mar 19, 2007 19:21:30 GMT 1, I much prefer Faile to Micallef, although I see Micallef having more staying power once the streetart wave dies a year or three from now as it did in the 80's, although who's to say it will come and go again. There are too many talking points to decide on here. Tough call, but I'm sure you'll make the right decision. Good luck!
I guess what I'm trying to say is it depends on if you want to be in it for the long run or if you want to hang something on your wall that you really like. unfortunately they're mutually exclusive.... in a way.
