Banksy โข Sale Ends Today, by pr.yu on Aug 18, 2020 17:53:44 GMT 1, Baseball cards Sports memorabilia Autographs Everything collectible rising like there's no tomorrow. Don't really understand. People with nostalgia have disposable income and are buying stuff they had and don't have anymore, or didn't have at all, when they were younger.
I think this is definitely part of it. Has been for me, for sure.
I think on the higher end of things it can also be a way to hide money. Private sales can keep earnings away from the eyes of the taxman.

Banksy โข Sale Ends Today, by needfoolthings on Aug 18, 2020 19:33:44 GMT 1, Incorrect.. I loved Banksy works and bought them in 2012 not out of investment opportunity but because of the work. Claiming to understand someone elseโs motives in life that you do not know is childish. You worded your last post like a penny stock investor... I get why people think youโre just in it for the money
May I ask if anyone were selling A Banksy would anyone here be giving significantly discounted prices on a Banksy to a person you know loves it ? My guess is it would sell to the highest offer like most every other person typically does on this forum as I have witnessed first hand. I donโt think people here are giving discounts out of love for art to people thatโs why the pieces cost so much. So what does that say about the love of art for those on this forum that choose only to maximize value? This happens every day. Banksy prices on this forum are similar at this time than gallery prices for all the โart loversโ out here โmaximizingโ over the years. In most cases these pieces arenโt being sold to โart loversโ but investors as most art lovers donโt also have the convenience of being wealthy. So with these โI truly love art principlesโ would you then sell to someone like a gallery that doesnโt truly love art of its so highly regarded with these principles? Happens all the time here. It almost always comes down to best offer not best offer by accredited lover of art. To be clear and candid I have yet to ever sell even on of the pieces I have bought. . Iโve checked the market out of curry but havenโt sold a single piece since I started collecting. See if you can find a sales thread from me on this site ever. I am a buyer and a collector, not a seller or reseller. So for all the people judging me for my choices Iโll ask how many times have you sold or resold a Banksy or your art. I bought my first Banksy on this forum in 2012 so Iโm not exactly a noob. This should tell you whom really loves art or money from my perspective. The fact that I buy to keep but also as a future nest egg is no different than the repeated come ups and sales over the years I have seen on this forum. Very presumptuous.

Banksy โข Sale Ends Today, by Deleted on Aug 18, 2020 20:40:03 GMT 1, Unfortunately my buyer is currently unable to complete as they are reliant on a sale of their own which has now fallen through.
With their blessing the piece is now back up for sale, unless their circumstances change in the meantime.
I am only entertaining offers of 35k to keep things straightforward for all parties - please do not PM unless you can meet this price.
I hope that is fair.
Warm wishes
Wendy

Banksy โข Sale Ends Today, by hui on Aug 18, 2020 21:07:50 GMT 1, I think this is definitely part of it. Has been for me, for sure. I think on the higher end of things it can also be a way to hide money. Private sales can keep earnings away from the eyes of the taxman. Step 1: pick an artist and buy up lots of originals at 10-100k each with income you are taxed on Step 2: put some works in an auction and have a proxy bid up the works to 10-20x cost Step 3: with increase in value, donate one or two each year and use that as a tax deduction to pay no taxes Welcome to the world of high end art
I'm not an accountant, but it's my understanding that one is only able to deduct the cost of the materials of the artwork - and not the artwork itself. Well, at least in the US. The story goes that Nixon attempted to donate all his shit and Congress swiftly changed the law to prevent this shit from happening.

They are magic. If you crumple them up really tight and plant them in soil then you'll get a wonderful flower a year later

Latest auctions results on Sothebyโs in August was ยฃ63k

Banksy โข Sale Ends Today, by Zippy on Oct 14, 2020 10:25:13 GMT 1, >cgt to be paid
How you planning on managing that - passing buyer's details to HMRC? It has nothing to do with the buyer. It is the seller's responsibility to pay the CGT on the profit he / she made.

Banksy โข Sale Ends Today, by GMA on Oct 14, 2020 10:36:11 GMT 1, Ah, okay. I dunno- I don't know anything about tax except they take it from my paypacket! You're meant to pay it when you sell anything then, I seen. It depends on thresholds, you'll get a certain tax free threshold each year but as soon as you get into these sorts of figures, you'd have to pay something. I don't know the percentages, I've never been in a position to sell something of such a significant value for me to even look into it in that much detail. But it's always good to be aware.

I read it that seller is up front that he will need to pay CGT on this and that he will adhere to all money laundering regulations so any thoughts of a buyer coming along with a brown paper bag full of tenners, Difaced or otherwise, can be discounted. The fiscal transaction will be very clear to anyone who cares to review in April next year when tax returns are submitted.

I very much am not - the price is very much the total price - besides if you added cgt costs then you are upping the cgt liability!
just adding that for the taxman & to confirm will be adhering to money laundering regulations
i'm totally against large corporations like amazon not paying full tax, so don't want to be a hypocrite when benefit from this potential windfall
