I think on the higher end of things it can also be a way to hide money. Private sales can keep earnings away from the eyes of the taxman.

May I ask if anyone were selling A Banksy would anyone here be giving significantly discounted prices on a Banksy to a person you know loves it ?
My guess is it would sell to the highest offer like most every other person typically does on this forum as I have witnessed first hand.
I donโt think people here are giving discounts out of love for art to people thatโs why the pieces cost so much. So what does that say about the love of art for those on this forum that choose only to maximize value? This happens every day. Banksy prices on this forum are similar at this time than gallery prices for all the โart loversโ out here โmaximizingโ over the years.
In most cases these pieces arenโt being sold to โart loversโ but investors as most art lovers donโt also have the convenience of being wealthy.
So with these โI truly love art principlesโ would you then sell to someone like a gallery that doesnโt truly love art of its so highly regarded with these principles? Happens all the time here. It almost always comes down to best offer not best offer by accredited lover of art.
To be clear and candid I have yet to ever sell even on of the pieces I have bought.  . Iโve checked the market out of curry but havenโt sold a single piece since I started collecting.

It has nothing to do with the buyer. It is the seller's responsibility to pay the CGT on the profit he / she made.

I very much am not - the price is very much the total price - besides if you added cgt costs then you are upping the cgt liability!
just adding that for the taxman & to confirm will be adhering to money laundering regulations
i'm totally against large corporations like amazon not paying full tax, so don't want to be a hypocrite when benefit from this potential windfall
It reads to me that the seller is looking to add the CGT to the asking price in the same way people ask for PayPal fees to be paid? I very much am not - the price is very much the total price - besides if you added cgt costs then you are upping the cgt liability! just adding that for the taxman & to confirm will be adhering to money laundering regulations i'm totally against large corporations like amazon not paying full tax, so don't want to be a hypocrite when benefit from this potential windfall |
