Banksy • Sale Ends Today, by LJCal on Apr 2, 2021 13:25:05 GMT 1, People will always have a minimum they will accept when selling. It doesn’t really matter about hammer prices etc Sure but if they’re minimum doesn’t meet with a buyers maximum in the market it’s being offered they ain’t selling. Auctions are the the only semi-reliable bench mark for those not working in the industry, they’re a useful guide if you know how to apply them to what you’re selling in the chosen market at a given time.

Banksy • Sale Ends Today, by Richy Rich on Apr 2, 2021 13:35:06 GMT 1, As a general rule I’ve always looked at any auction results over the past month or so and set a price somewhere between hammer and hammer + fees. Has always worked out pretty well. Seller gets more than they would from auction and buyer pays less then they would have at auction. Everyone wins (apart from the auction house and they’ve got plenty of moolah already)

But my experience of selling here and in other private groups varies a lot depending on what I’m selling and when, it’s obviously a tiny and relatively focused market when compared to the reach of certain auction houses and galleries. Still it’s a valuable resource which I think many people under appreciate and don’t know how to use properly.

Banksy • Sale Ends Today, by irl1 on Apr 2, 2021 16:22:22 GMT 1, Seems fair to lower the price a bit, considering the result at Christie's. It's not a fire sale either. Not gonna waste money to make money. So you can own this all day long GBP60K print for GBP 55,555 / Euro 65,000. Shipping & fees not included. I know how to pack a print and will only ship it if it's 100% mint. Will provide photos before it will go into the tubes. References will need to be provided. Nothing personal. The way shipping is at the moment make sure it's a concrete tube

Banksy • Sale Ends Today, by Spenie on Apr 2, 2021 21:19:06 GMT 1, Isn't that what the seller at the recent auction would have received ? Always seems odd that people want to receive auction prices on a free forum without paying the auction fees? If sellers want auction prices stick the print in an auction. If you want to sell on a free forum then the prices should reflect that? That stands for all all sales not just this one. However that is just my humble impression of an art loving forum. With that logic you would agree that if I sell this at an auction house with a Buyers Premium of 100% this print will be worth 120K. Because it will hammer at 45K regardless. When people bid at auction the consider they final fees into the price. When they bid 45K they understand they will need to pay an extra 30% in fees, ARR and VAT. So they are willing to pay 60K and therefor value the print at 60K. If Christies would lower their fees to 5% it would hammer at 55K. A seller uses an auction house for their services. To avoid discussions on a free forum and waking up knee deep in low ball offers. As far as the business opportunity goes - I'm already in. No hurry. No worry. I'll be a millionaire regardless. Or not. Just will take a bit longer. Not looking to sell this 10x. I only need 1 buyer who appreciates this print and wants to put it on the wall and enjoy it. Cheers! Not sure I fully understand your figures here, if auctions house had a buyers premium of 100% this print would not hammer at £45k. What I'm trying to say is it hammered at £40,000, the seller would have most likely received £36,000 from the auction house if the 10% fees quoted by a seller on here are correct.

GLWTS TBH this really needs some constructive clarification because I don't believe that an auction sale with premiums should set a private sale price. If you want to go to auction go to auction and receive the hammer minus sellers fees, but do not expect a private buyer to pay the all in price in a private sale, because you will not receive that amount in a auction sale.
