Banksy • Sale Ends Today, by germ215 on Dec 1, 2017 21:34:43 GMT 1, Great job, the image suits an ornate frame. Spot on Horses for courses. personally ornate frames are a bit pastiche now, it was fun in 2005 framing street art like masterpieces but now it just looks a little old hat. Please don’t take that as in insult, its just my opinion about framing with recycled frames. I think in a year or two you might change your mind once more examples start coming through
I chose frames based on the piece. I felt the religious icon based subject matter went well with an antique style frame. Also this is a new frame, not a recycled one. But generally I tend to go with a sleeker modern look. Just not this time around.

Banksy • Sale Ends Today, by FЯ on Dec 1, 2017 21:36:17 GMT 1, No I did not have any concerns because I trust my framer. He’s been in the business his whole life. His father owns a gallery on NYC that deals in pretty major works and he’s been around the frame shop since he was born. I’ve had him float other pieces for me before including a Wayne White original water color and a document that was over 100 years old. Do some research on your framer before you choose one. Make sure they have handled works in the past similar to what you are framing. Be very clear on what your expectations and concerns are. Even some of the expesnive and well known framers out there mess things up by over using tapes that need reversing and ts happened twice to me. One is a well known framer in the uk and one is well known in LA. Both completely fooked prints up when i came to reframe some pieces.
Someone mentioned only forking out for darbyshire framing the other day for a banksy - as fas as im concerned and have been shown first hand in a comparison, it is all framed the same way inside if the framer knows conservation methods.
The glass quality is the same everywhere, as are the mounts. i guess it then just comes down to the detailed craftsmanship of the frame but it makes no difference to anything that touches the print inside.

It still does not look right in that frame, that must just be stuck in there surely rather than floated. Looks like its being held in place by the glass?

Beautiful done. As for concerns about float mounting... bollocks. If it’s done correctly there won’t be a problem. Saw countless Harings and Warhol prints floated in Halcyon gallery last week. If there was an issue do you not think those people have the money to pay someone to frame them another way?

Here's mine (mind the shoes in the shot).
It's cool to see the other framing choices being posted. I was 50/50 on going for the ornate frame (which looks great btw) — but very happy with the black. Photo doesn't do it justice — really pops.

If they want to stick it in a off the shelf frame who cares? At least they are enjoying it. Unlike some other clowns who will just flip it. But that’s okay cause they need money..

Banksy • Sale Ends Today, by Bansky on Dec 2, 2017 12:13:59 GMT 1, So for the floated examples above, which all look really good imho, what materials were used to float the print? Hinges? Acid-free adhesive? Most likely Japanese hinging paper, which seems to be a industry standard. I spoke to my framer about this yesterday and they said that the hinges can be removed with a tiny bit of water but it will leave a small faint mark on the back regardless. Not sure exactly how visible it would be, but it makes me a bit concerned.
