Banksy • Sale Ends Today, by diarmid on Jan 24, 2020 23:57:13 GMT 1, "Those who were liked" falls within my definition of VIP.
Reason I know they is edition of 150, I have seen one in flesh

Banksy • Sale Ends Today, by Adam The Collector on Jan 25, 2020 0:35:28 GMT 1, Let me reveal a little more. These "vip" signed LA prints were numbered out of 150 because Banksy and Laz planned on doing the full signed edition of 150 with MM but due to an "issue" they changed their mind. The signed examples while numbered out of 150 were never part of a completed print run. P.O.W. finished these signed prints making the few MM examples incredibly rare.

Banksy • Sale Ends Today, by hnkpnk on Jan 25, 2020 9:01:18 GMT 1, I'm pretty sure it's like this. All six Barely Legal prints were supposed to be 150 signed + 500 unsigned. At the show (and a bit after) there was about 100 of each unsigned released + pp's and a few VIP prints signed. All printed by Modern Multiples. So 100 unsigned and (my guess) about ten- fifteen signed of each of the six. (Maybe six p/p and the rest marked /150) The rest of the Modern Multiples editions were scrapped. Edit: MM never printed all the 6x650 prints because they didn't have enough time before the show opened.
POW later completed the editions for Morons, Grannies, Trolleys and Applause. That is, produced 400 unsigned and about 140 signed. (Plus new editions of sepia Morons (300) and color Trolleys (750) (and Bethlehem and Formica Trolleys (Edit again: No no no. Of course there weren't any Formica Trolleys))). Festival was only rereleased as an a/p edition of about 30 (can't remember the exact number) with a slightly different composition. Sale Ends was rereleased as a new, different edition of 500. The rest of the v1, signed and unsigned, was never released.

Banksy • Sale Ends Today, by hnkpnk on Jan 25, 2020 13:17:58 GMT 1, And while we're at the subject I believe the numbering of the Barely Legal/MM unsigned started at 51 just to complicate things. And a 100 of them. So 51-150/500. So that would make it that POW numbered the unsigned 1-50 + 151-500. That's why some believe 150 unsigned were released in LA. Slightly edited post.

100% agree and that’s why I pounced on the last one. The price at 19/20 now is correct but it will rise sharply after a couple of auction results.

Banksy • Sale Ends Today, by Fast Eddie on Jan 25, 2020 19:47:11 GMT 1, I love street art. I also understand the financial side of this. I think for many even a single or multiple undiversified investment of 20,000-30,000GBP (for each low-range signed Banksy) requires planning. The risks to me involve: a. future supply (what the hell is Bbay and how many prints is GDP going to churn out);
b. contemporary art market recognition. This demand factor can only go up in my view - the chance of street art being totally sidestepped as an art history oddity are immaterial given the cultural penetration of Banksy. But certain small people in big museums have no taste and ultimately what's great art is a coordination problem across our collective minds;
c. personal risk - Banksy's ID/mystique/personality is an asset. It could depreciate instantly - he is by definition a riskier entity than a known artist. You know Lister is an addict, Kaws is a low-key boring dude, etc. that's priced in already. Obviously, things can also change: think of Eine or Retna. On the plus side, we know that Banksy is a very restrained, measured, and committed artist (it would not be possible to sustain this low output, privacy, and rigorous certification process otherwise).

Banksy • Sale Ends Today, by Terry Fuckwitt on Jan 25, 2020 19:57:25 GMT 1, The rarity of the Barely Legal prints are, in my opinion, seriously overlooked. Unsigned editions of around 100 examples, signed editions of around 25 examples. Those are pretty short numbers for Banksy editions.
That was my thoughts. If PC ever release the confirmed edition numbers of these, prices will fly.

Spot on, all very valid points. I’m heavily invested in Banksy but under no illusions that there are not serious risks, the market is very hot and the current price rises to me seem fuelled by speculators more than genuine collectors. What I would say is that the way Bansky has cultivated his image and managed his market to date is very savvy so for investment purposes that should provide some comfort but no guarantees.

I think for many even a single or multiple undiversified investment of 20,000-30,000GBP (for each low-range signed Banksy) requires planning. The risks to me involve: a. future supply (what the hell is Bbay and how many prints is GDP going to churn out); b. contemporary art market recognition. This demand factor can only go up in my view - the chance of street art being totally sidestepped as an art history oddity are immaterial given the cultural penetration of Banksy. But certain small people in big museums have no taste and ultimately what's great art is a coordination problem across our collective minds; c. personal risk - Banksy's ID/mystique/personality is an asset.
Thanks but can we stick to the purpose of this thread. To identify not strategise
