Low edition Ai Weiwei sculptures are released from major galleries well over ยฃ10k, granted the Artist Hand is a large edition (1000) but its a very strong piece and was an absolute steal when released (I paid ยฃ590).
Jeff Koons balloon dogs are released in Huge editions in multiple variants and command very high prices.

Not sure about the buyer, because they receive something for their "donation"... So not really a charity donation.
I think the seller can claim the sale price (and their donation of it to charity) against their tax though.
There must be a motivation to buy back your own art in there somewhere I'm sure but don't know the economics of it!!

This result is an anomaly, so don't rely on it as the standard.

Definitely an anomaly, but this is the 2nd auction (Christieโs before, I think ) where they achieved semi-ridiculous values. Anyways, cool sculpture to boot

And if you have dealt with acrylic, it is not as resilient as glass, so a rub the wrong way can scuff and so to the micro scratches after wiping the dust off.
The middle finger is iconic, and looks the dogs balls.

While when I bought it originally, I thought it would be iconic Ai weiwei, in reality, to me it falls well short and makes me harken back to a simpler time when axe murderers would travel to tourist traps worldwide and lop off the hands of chrome-painted men standing motionless on pedestals perodically dancing The Robot to 80s hiphop.
