Hanging frames without screw, using double sided tape, by Happy Shopper on Oct 18, 2017 13:01:11 GMT 1, Anything strong enough to hold a frame would probably make more of a mess than drilling a hole.
I used something similar to hang a mirror in my bathroom and it fell off the wall after a couple of days!!

Hanging frames without screw, using double sided tape, by k2 on Oct 18, 2017 13:13:34 GMT 1, I've used these too, and they work quite well - although I've only used them for smaller items framed with plexi. Also worth mentioning that they only work properly on smooth walls - unfortunately our current place is riddled with textured walls, and they're no good.
Importantly, in my experience these can be removed without damaging the paint work. The tape linked to by the original poster will do far more damage when removed than a couple of well drilled holes.

Yeah, that is true. They are hung on plastered walls, not paper. Used on frames upto 70x50cm. They can also be removed without any damage to wall or frame so you don't need to pick off all the glue etc.

Hanging frames without screw, using double sided tape, by churchwood on Oct 18, 2017 13:27:00 GMT 1, +1 for the 3M command strips.
they are brilliant as long as the walls are smooth.
I have hung a few smallish frames with them and never had a problem - used the medium sized ones.
I also have a large canvas - 1m x 1m that I used 2 on each vertical side and one along the top. there was enough space on the stretcher to adhere them directly to the wooden frame.
they quote some pretty heavy weights they can hold but I have never hung anything really heavy with them

Do you think that would work then??

Just use more strips to be safe if you are uncertain.
They also allow the frame to fit tight to the wall so it can't get caught and leave the picture hanging skewed.

Hanging frames without screw, using double sided tape, by k2 on Oct 18, 2017 14:55:39 GMT 1, Actually hanging those in a coffee shop and the owner does not want holes, cares less about the paint I suppose... If you are hanging these in a place of business, and it's likely that someone will be sitting 'underneath' any of the framed/glazed works, I would 100% recommend not using any tape / glue to affix anything to the wall. Those products will all fail eventually.
While the owner might not want holes, he's likely to want a law-suit even less.

Hanging frames without screw, using double sided tape, by churchwood on Oct 18, 2017 14:58:34 GMT 1, never had an issue with the 3M strips taking paint off or leaving any residue if I take one off the wall.
don't ask me how they work but they have this little tab at the bottom that you pull down on - this stretches the 3M strip that is stuck to the wall - a 7cm strip elongates to about 15cm and as it gets longer, the strip gets narrower and just pops away from the wall leaving no trace
I was sceptical about them but someone recc'd them to me a few years ago and I have used them since on anything not too heavy

Hanging frames without screw, using double sided tape, by Vanessa Villegas Art Advisory on Oct 18, 2017 17:46:18 GMT 1, The best way to avoid holes and paint damage is installing a track hanging system. This is what most galleries use, as it allows you to change and move the art on the wall with ease. Very secure - even during earthquakes.
If I were you I wouldn't use any tape or velcro option because they really don't hold very much. They might work for tiny picture frames for your kids portrait but little else.

Just looked on a 3M Command box - I always worked on per strip but looking at the pack I have here its x 4 strips - ooops - oh well touch wood nothing ever fallen down but I do tend to use 4 on most things so am probably okay
4 x small strips = 4lbs 4 x medium strips = 12lbs
