With Banksy we don't. We don't know if its 15 great artists collaborating. We don't know if its 1 with some helpers. We don't know if its 1 person with all the ideas or 12 collaborating on the ideas.
But you know what it can't be? It can't be all three.
Sure part of the mystery is what makes it entertaining. But if you are going to say Banksy is one of the 5 best artists of the last decade don't you think its important if its actually the other 4 in collaboration?

You are exactly right. But we know that. We also have plenty examples of other michelangelos work. With Banksy we don't. We don't know if its 15 great artists collaborating. We don't know if its 1 with some helpers. We don't know if its 1 person with all the ideas or 12 collaborating on the ideas. But you know what it can't be? It can't be all three. When Banksy hit the US (before BOTI) it was well documented that a whole team of up to 20 people were seen installing one of his larger pieces. Info regarding Banksy having a team behind him has been around for a long time now, I'm not sure why you're focusing so much on it now. It does not impact his work in my opinion.

My main point is that it can't be them all. And whichever one it is and is the truth helps inform and put the works in perspective.
The fact that it is a debate and so mysterious is surely part of the work of art. Its brilliant. But, that still doesn't mean we should ignore what it is in my opinion, especially if we want to analyze or put it in perspective with the history of art and other artists.
If you want to ignore it and just judge the art or image for what it is then fine. But to ridicule someone trying to gauge it among past and present ideas of what art or an artist is doesn't make sense to me.

I suspect that Banksy acts alone in choosing his location, designing the piece and cutting the stencil. I suspect that Banksy acts alone in choosing his location, designing the piece and cutting the stencil. I suspect he still plays a role in applying the art to the wall himself but has a little help with that. So where does Eine fit in? Or 3D?

It was the 'This will look nice when it's framed' piece on top of a low level flat roof that was in quite an exposed area (by a busy road). The local paper done an interview with the landlord who reported seeing a large group of people (up to 20) on the roof coming and going from behind a covering. It's on the BOTI thread somewhere.
We've seen rudimentary sketches of b's ideas authenticated to be in his own hand, but what we haven't seen is the final stages of production that bear the result we see as the consumer. The closest association we can make is that a team formed by banksy creating a final product for MBW, based on very similar directions to the ones gives his own team. I suppose he pays very well, and issues non-disclosure agreements. Not unlike contemporary artists who have huge production teams like Koons and Hirst.
How involved is banksy in the production of his work? Your guess is as good as mine.
Should't know how the sausage is made, esp if you enjoy it's taste.
