Art of Stavi, by stavi on Nov 10, 2017 6:22:07 GMT 1, First one just went up in Echo Park, Los Angeles. Normally I would do a painting on paper and wheatpaste that. This time I did something a little different and attatched mdf board to the wall.

Depends on the piece, most of them are a mixture of acrylic, oils, and watercolor. Sometimes I'll use spray paint, other times an airbrush.

I thought it might be hard to get a sense of scale for the last post. The "notebook paper" is 40 inches across. Theres a couple spray paint cans in the background for scale.

In hindsight i wish i would have climbed up there and painted that top corner red. I really like the concept of framing the work and I'll have to try it again soon. It wasnt too laborious and i think the result was worth it.
I hung around for a few minutes after finishing the wall to watch how people received it. Besides most people trying to dodge the puddle of red paint I left, it was fun to see little kids poking at the expanding foam.

Art of Stavi, by stavi on Dec 3, 2019 5:37:57 GMT 1, 4X4ft on wood panel i built.
Im waiting on a few gallons of resin i ordered so that i can cover this piece and a couple of others too.
I havent worked with resin yet but I've seen the results turn out very nice.
Also this particular piece needs some kind of protection because the oil pastels i used will almost never fully dry.

Oil pastels are waterproof I would guess.

And the pastels end up being relatively water resistant, but will rub off if you touch them.
I have paint sticks i plan to use instead of the pastels from now on

Art of Stavi, by stavi on Dec 27, 2019 5:01:11 GMT 1, I finally got around to sealing this painting in resin. It's not perfect, there are plenty of small craters/"pimples",but the cool thing about resin is that those kinds of imperfections can always be fixed.
I might try to get that perfet 100% finish once I'm more experienced, or even have someone else do it for me.
It took a whole gallon of resin to cover this 4x4ft painting and overall I'm satisfied with my experience. The colors really pop and the pastels are protected
I have a new level of respect for large, perfect, resin works. It's a f**king chore to get it right.

Art of Stavi, by stavi on Jan 8, 2020 0:52:12 GMT 1, I'll be uploading pictures of the process of my next project.
Atlanta has a burgeoning art scene. And that includes a rapid growing graffiti scene as well.
I admire the balls some of the local taggers here have. They've been hitting overpasses and other spots that require a serious amounts of climbing and planning.
Anyways, i dont feel i can match them in quantity in this pissing contest. Writing my name over and over again wouldn't satisfy my artistic needs, which is why i have wheatpasted many paintings instead.
But whatever, im rambling.
My next project is a billboard!
Im doing it a little different than the graff guys typically approach billboards and ill try to document as much as possible.
This is the billboard tarp. I just hung it in my studio and it was difficult as fuck getting it up.
If you dont see it, You can see the black line of duct tape at the top.
It measures 14x48 ft.
It was hard to hang it in my studio, but i have a feeling it'll be easier to install it for real.
Thanks for reading my word vomit.
Ps. I do have a design planned. It's just my name stylized. I considered doing a large painting, but i think what i have planned will be most effective for my goals.

Art of Stavi, by stavi on Jan 9, 2020 6:21:09 GMT 1,
Okay, so my plan is to finish the black letters tonight.
My current concern is that the ad on the back will be visible when the sun hits it, so it looks like i will have to paint the the white parts with white paint as well.
I need to have the middle letters 100% finished, before i can move on to the rest of the design.
Here is a pixel layout i made to help me with working on such a large scale. The final design will not be pixelated.
Because the tarp is so large i will need to fold the edges inwards to paint the devil ducks. Which is why i want to completely finish the middle section before i move on.
The devil ducks are based on some sculptures i made
Which were based on this wheatpaste i installed in Echo Park, Los Angeles
Ps. If you zoom in to my tower of paint in my studio, you can see a full sculpture of a devil duck riding a tank.

Art of Stavi, by stavi on Jan 10, 2020 1:23:55 GMT 1, I spent my morning making this instead of painting.
I liked how well the pixel art came out, so i decided to animate it. It was both tedious and satisfying

Art of Stavi, by stavi on Jan 10, 2020 22:55:18 GMT 1, I finished the letters. I need to go buy a gallon of white paint and finish that next. I'll update when i start painting the ducks.
I also did some planning on the size of the ducks. I will most likely do one more revision before i paint the final thing.
Also checkcout the skull and heart on the bottom left. I was considering doing those on the billboard at first. But I decided the duck might be better for branding or some s**t like that.
I do like how the skull came out. All the papers pictured are actually shipping lables. Meaning, they are stickers.
I think I'll cut the sticker out, resin it, and give it away at a sticker trading party going on in Atlanta in a couple of weeks.

Art of Stavi, by stavi on Jan 27, 2020 5:08:57 GMT 1, This is 1 of 5 paintings i'll use to apply for this art show.
I'll be really happy if i get accepted to this show.
But what that really means is I'll pretty dissapointed/pissed if they reject me.
All 5 paintings I'm submitting are 4x4ft. The others are "actual" paintings. This is the only tile based work.
I still have to do 1 side of tile, and the grouting.
To make it, i "liberated" some tile from a construction site, then I laid the tile out on the floor, then i smashed it with this little baseball bat i have. The first hit was so strong and violent, that it felt like the tile flashed with light when i hit it.
The small baseball bat split in two.
My friend monique, who was doing a watercolor in my studio, protested with a scared tone to her voice.
I grabbed one half of the broken baseball bat and smashed at it a few more times.
The tile with the signtarue is attached with velcro and can be switched out for a fully blank tile.
I like the idea of being able to hang this painting in any orientation.
I got his tile from a construction site and wanted to do 3 pieces of this size, but i only had enought tiles for 1.
And if you look, i ran out of 6x6 tile and had to use 6x3 tile to fill it out.
Of the 3 intended paintings, one was going to be fully clean, unbroken tile piece.
The other a smasshed tile piece, like i did.
And the last, a broken tile piece with a painting aspect.
This piece is very different for me, but besides the other 4 paintings i have, i think it works and reinforces the over all feel for the group of work.
I can still feel and hear the bat snapping on the tile everytime i look at it.
And i hope the rest of the work can show some sort of feeling with the splashes and strokes i made.
I see this piece as a progression to what Space Invader has done for mosaic/tile in art.
Jackson pollock's squiggles were said to have captured the dance of his arms above the canvas. i think i capture my actions in a similar way in this painting. The whole body of work is almost a continuation from that "action painting" style that developed in NY in the 50s-60s.
Invader's art comes from the retro imagery he knocks off with tiles. The art in my tiles comes from The imagery of what i did to them.
And i think of this as a "live piece". As in, if a tile were to break during transportation, i would think that as part of the piece.
Actually. If this was ever bought and sold, i would hope the owner would first smash one of the tiles and add to the history of this piece.

Art of Stavi, by stavi on Jan 27, 2020 5:15:54 GMT 1, It's a much more stricking piece in person, and i think it will fit in great next to my other paintings.
what really connects them, is that they're all 4x4ft.
Which is currently my preferred size.
I could probably do a 4x4 in the same time or faster that i do a 1x1.

Art of Stavi, by morton on Jan 27, 2020 5:25:01 GMT 1, It's a much more stricking piece in person, and i think it will fit in great next to my other paintings. You really like them don’t you?

I've had this specific piece in mind for a while. And with the other paintings I've made, it really feels like my first full body of work.

Art of Stavi, by stavi on Mar 3, 2020 1:48:29 GMT 1, I met this girl at an art show and the next week we went for drinks.
But she's ignored me a couple of times so i sent her a message, "i hate you now."
But she ignored that as well.
And i had started to paint her from a photo i screenshoted off instagram, but i stopped half way through to work on other paintings.
And so I'm having a show at my large warehouse/studio and i saw that a friend of her's will be making a piece for the show.
That means a good possibility of her coming.
And im trying to figure out, before i go through all the effort, if it is more creepy or funny if she shows up and there's a 4 foot painting of her.
