Invader - Has he lost it?, by Posterboob on Nov 8, 2017 23:37:41 GMT 1, Anyone else think invader has lost it? His recent pieces are so average and he is constantly producing unimaginative mosaics.
People actually care about meaningful art (take Banksy and his recent relevant Basquiat piece, Shep and his political stand point) yet invader is producing bland vanilla whilst the rest are innovating.
I get that he is ‘part of street art history’ but in the same way crayons are the history of art.

Hey man people are losing their shit about a poster of multiple tesco value soup cans. I don't think too many people care about meaningful around here

I agree... I think he is lost, looking for money as he knows time is running out. He does not understand the meaning of urban art and makes me and hopefully the community upset!

Invader - Has he lost it?, by Deleted on Nov 9, 2017 0:02:01 GMT 1, He's always been hit and miss for me. Probably more hits but plenty of dodgy efforts in his work, which is probably inevitable due to the prolific nature of his output. In general, I'd say his prints don't do him justice compared to his street pieces.

Full disclosure: I own LED and fully intend on holding. I’m just watching the current output and struggling to see how it’s going to change the game.

It’s nice to see EB forum members get involved now and again. I appreciate the piece, hence the frustration. Imagine buying a ‘butt pirate’ figurine (I’m sure you have many) and discovering butt pirate actually likes his Nando’s lemon and herb. That’s how I feel...

Horses for courses, I guess.

Seriously? The vast majority of what gets dropped and fought over by the flippers would be classed as 'decorative'. Nothing wrong with that, but it's futile to argue we're making a big political statement while we f5 to whack a few grand on a nice piece for the wall (or the bay).
So yes, Invader is more in the decorative camp. I like the work. I think the simpler images work best, as his talent is for drawing on the retro yearnings of our generation. Trouble is, he has exhausted all the simpler images. I'm not sure making more complicated sprites is progress. Just my view though, and arguably they are more engaging.

Invader - Has he lost it?, by denada on Nov 9, 2017 10:35:37 GMT 1, I would respectfully disagree - he has not 'lost it'.
What continues to amaze me is his output, he is constantly hitting up the streets (illegally) unlike a lot of other big name artists who have gone down the sanctioned mural route. There is no slowing down, even as he is getting older and has more to risk.
His art was never social or political, and never will be. His concept was to 'invade' cities.
Just think about what he has achieved - walk around Paris and you will be amazed at the sheer scale and number of his invasions. From Paris to LA, London to Kathmandu, Hong Kong to space itself!
Invader uses tiles instead of spray paint - that his medium. And he has bombed the sh!t out of cities and shows no sign of slowing. If Invader was a graffiti artist - he would be a king. He deserves the plaudits and success.
The work may look decorative - but it is the concept of 'invading' cities, and than having the audacity to do it on such a large and illegal scale that is impressive.
He makes cities his playground, and is a street art legend. I wish more of the big names from way back were still as active as him.

Spot on.
Whether or not you « like » his output, this is an objective analysis of his raison d’être as an Artist.
I would add the idea of flash invaders, which is an incredible concept to get people to interact with your art and participate in it.

I tend to think that ‘invasion’ angle is as authentic as it can be when he was starting out, and even as recent as 2-3 years back. But as someone pointed out earlier, he has started caving to the market himself by pricing his latest works high. His work was never meant to be on paper, or even on anything one can hang inside his or her home, if his intention is to invade the streets all over the world. And he’s making good money out of this now.
For other artists, it might still convince me that he needs to price himself to the market (oh why banksy, did you decide to sell your print at only £500 just recently?). But based on his grander scheme of invading the world all over from day one and his original intention of letting the mass public see his work through this invasion, I think its’s clearly a tough job to tell me he hasn’t exactly commercialised his works and lost the it factor completely.
