Banksy Morons Print, by senna on Apr 13, 2007 1:09:02 GMT 1, was-sup AB? I'm really sorry to say that there is nothing any of us can do Vis-à-vis the ripple in a framed paper print. The more colour/paint, the worse it can be. personally, every print i own regardless of size is flat the minute i get it. but this actually has very little if any affect on whether a print will ripple when framed or not. they are printed on paper; paper is organic containing moisture.it loses that mosture over time irregularly. you get the picture. short of getting them re-pressed every now & then...thats the way it is. f**kin gets on my nerves too ![>:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/angry.png) my 20p's worth ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) Hello there cure for constipation Senna! ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png) How the hell have you been man?? Great to hear from ya!!! So your prints are getting ripply too? Man, that really sucks... how do they do it in the museums - do they simply get them repressed routinely? Well at least there's a bit of good news - it's got nothing to do with keeping prints rolled up in a tube for a long time (although you still shouldn't do it, there's plenty other reasons for that!). So annoying and tragic, though ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/sad.png)
my stretch pulp has been done twice this year & still not perfect.
better explain the shit (or lack of ) thing to the non americans
been pretty busy this year & don't get half the time on-line now
...but i do pop in when i can & see whats occuring in the world of art/gossip/pow/junkies
peace to all ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png)

Looks like maintenance will be a long-term issue, huh?
An explanation for the constipation joke for everyone else (if they care): "Senna" is the name of a genus of plants that are used in making laxatives (it's the active ingredient in Senokot), but Senna actually picked his user name after Aytron Senna, whom he is a big fan of
But I love teasing him about it anyway! ;D
Great to see you come around buddy! Hope all is well with ya!!

Banksy Morons Print, by krazy on Apr 13, 2007 2:14:52 GMT 1, Hey bro, When I had a similar problem I actually roolled it the "other" way and put it back in the tube for a day... following that I then put it in an art folder flat for a week and the 'undulations' on my Jack & Jill disappeared. Be VERY careful rolling iside oout though and try and just just it flat if you can ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)
My friend did exactly this to a $10,000 original (not a banksy), and it permanently destroyed the paper! It basically put creases all the way through it. No amount of flattening of repairing will fix it .
I've been lucky enough that none of my pieces have rippled. I've got about 20 things framed (will post pics over the weekend). I guess the key is to make sure the paper is kept in a dry environment before getting it framed. Also, get a gallery quality frame that's sealed so that no moisture gets in.

As a printmaker, I can tell you NEVER do this! You could ruin your print!! Let the roll relax for a day or two before you try to flatten any print that has been stored in a tube for a long period of time. In haste you could ruin your art by trying to correct the problem too quickly!

Here's an example of a print that was rolled the wrong way to try and straighten it up. This print is virtually ruined. It's hard to photograph, but if you look closely, there's creases along all of the ripples.
Lucky it's a S**T print anyway.. lol.

Thanks for posting your pic! I'm sorry that you had that happen to your art, but it doesn't look too bad if you are happy with the artwork. Respect given! Sadly, I have seen prints end up worse. It looks like you may be able to frame it with a mat and hide most rolls. I've had ink crack and print on certain prints that were flattened too quickly. It was a sad day indeed.

Banksy Morons Print, by Curley on Apr 13, 2007 8:24:27 GMT 1, For those that are saying some prints that have been rolled in the tube for a long time are rippling when framed...are your using mats/mounts in the frame or are you trying to float mount them? Reason I ask is this thread is making me nervous - I've got many prints I've been waiting to frame until I move into a bigger place -- some of the prints (a la signed CND Soldiers) have been waiting since purchase -- over a year. God help me if I have a rippling problem with any of them. I'm so close to moving now that I'd rather not take any of them out of the tubes to store them -- may as well just leave them where they are for a couple more weeks than risk denting them. Please somebody tell me that they've had prints in tubes for long periods and the prints have turned out fine. ![:-/](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/undecided.png)
My Applause has had a small issue with ripples and its gone back to the framers to sit under a very heavy weight for two weeks. That print was not rolled up for that long in the tube as far as i know and went to be framed the day i got it.
Other fatctors i have been told to take in to account is the indoor temperature and whether the print is on an outside wall. Neither are an issue in the case of my Applause. Yes i would suggest that you invest in an art portfolio with acid free mounts etc... that way you can get the prints flat before you go to the framers.
I also use a 70x50 habitat frame to flatten out prints (i can look at them at the same time) ;D

Banksy Morons Print, by themightyreds on Apr 13, 2007 9:24:49 GMT 1, My Applause has some very slight ripples appearing but they are only noticeable from a tight viewing angle so it doesn't really bother me. It is hung on an outside wall though so i might have to consider moving it if they start to increase...
I use a nice cheap frame to flatten out my new prints with as well - works a treat! Plus it gives me a chance to move them around and see where they'll look best around the house.

Banksy Morons Print, by slowmo on Apr 13, 2007 9:37:18 GMT 1, I would be interested to know more about hanging on an outside wall as this is new to me? Pretty much every print I have has slight rippling, doesn't really bother me much. The only one two that don't are a Dan Baldwin, float mounted and a Habitat framed Faile hanging on an outside wall. Go figure! ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png)
I figure you can always just press them flat again if it really bothered you.

I mentioned it earlier, the first question i was asked by the framer of my Applause was where was it hung. Outside wall ? Above a radiator ?
Outside walls are much damper then internal walls. This damp can affect prints even in sealed frames. As someone pointed out in this thread prints absorb moisture and this can be another cause of the dreaded rippling of prints.
My Applause is the first print i have a had a problem with and i thought it was more down to its size. Mine is now under the Heavy Weight for two weeks and then will be packed with extra mounting board to keep it flat. Hopefully that will sort it out and i shall never speak of it again ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png)

yeah those Habitat frames are excellent for flattening prints and a bargain to boot. Obviously let the print relax for a day or so before putting them in
